January's Happy New Scents

I haven't been here in a bit but reading yesterday's "melting treasures" I noted that some of you have had an issue with Haley's Buttercream Cupcake.

 

I just received a fairly large order from her yesterday, and am a bit perplexed - don't quite know what to think. Almost 3/4 of my order pretty much smells exactly alike, regardless of the scent. They are different colors, different wax... but they all have this sickening sweetness. I tried melting the pink sugar, and it smells nothing like pink sugar and my husband gagged and complained quite loudly when he walked into the room where I was melting it. I agreed it was not pleasant.

 

Then I tried the buttercream. While this one did not have the odd sweet odor, it did smell rancid like someone else had mentioned. I immediately got rid of it, but the odor stuck around for a while. I don't typically have trouble with most buttercream scents, although there are some I don't care for. This was different...

 

I'm not sure what's going on with the others that all smell alike. Makes me wonder if somehow one oil contaminated a number of others? Just curious if anyone else has experienced this problem. Haley's is not new to me, although I have only ordered once before. However, that order was fine and I ordered some of the same scents this time. Just very odd...

 

Yep...same thing happened to me. I ordered about 1 month ago. I was sent a bunch of scents I don't think I ordered...but without an email receipt or box receipt I wasn't sure. Most of them had/have a weird note to them (buttercream was not to my liking at all!!!!) and they have a similar scent. Everything was strange!!! I know a lot of people like this business and I'm sure she's a lovely person, but not a vendor for me.

deezee, golly I do have to wonder if somehow the wax got tainted with some scent. I've only ordered once and had a great order. Love her Mrs. Claus cookies, buttermilk pancakes, and red velvet cake.

 

I actually received an order yesterday from a different vendor and 2 of the freebies I got were 2 completely different scent categories, totally different colors but smelled alike. both had a grape note to them. I went to the scent description and there is no grapes in the one that is more of a floral. the other is a merlot so that one is more of an intense grape. I somehow wondered if the floral one had a tainted oil. no biggie, as they were freebies and the rest of the order is oh so wonderful.

 

You might be doing her a favor by contacting her, as her other customers may have something similar happen causing her to lose business. sorry that happened.

 

switched out the BR melter to Nene's Balinese Breeze. Oh so so so so wonderful and a definite reorder in a bag of crumbles.

For the rest of the day it is Yankee Christmas Cookie. I decided to organize my tarts--big mistake--ended up putting them back sort of the way they were but I am not happy with the result so will no doubt be doing something else tomorrow. Have a great weekend, everyone.

While I'm not happy that you have had a similar experience, at least I know I'm not crazy! I was just totally floored because for the most part, the entire order is not usable. I did order one candle in White Cake as well as tarts in that same scent, and they seem perfectly fine.

 

I honestly believe that it might be an issue of contamination. I'm not a candle maker of course, but it seems to me that given the fact that oils can be difficult to clean, if one is not particularly cautious between making products of different scents, this could really become a problem.

I've debated as to whether to contact her or not. I'm quite sure it wasn't intentional, but then again I did make this purchase with the intention of enjoying it and I can't. Given my suspicions of contamination, I think I will let her know because if so, she clearly needs to be more careful.

Hey y'all: I was minding my own business when my computer was infected with a virus this afternoon. It kept going to a porno site and I could see big boobies and ads for Viagra. I've run my spybot through 3 times and it has picked up on 8 problems, so hopefully it's o.k. I am melting CYS-Winter Noel. I don't know what the notes are but it smells nice. Kim, I had that happen about 2 months ago. my mcafee immediately popped up to block it and to do a scan at the same time that this other thing popped up to say I had a virus. when I went to click on the mcafee thing, it clicked the other box and voila! the virus was there. took me a bit to get to my mcaffee again because you keep having these boxes pop up, then new windows opening with the pornos and viagras. lol

 

added GC black licorice candle. love this thing; throws like crazy.

Geez, lots of weird things going on w/computers lately. It's been SO slooooooow signing on and maneuvering around on the forum for me the past few days. I stuck it out to see what everyone was melting. It all sounds yummy!

I'm sorry I have been MIA.

 

We lost a very dear friend this week, and I am just beside myself.

 

It was so unexpected. I did the family work (flowers), and it was the last thing I ever thought I would have to do.

 

I met Jim 18 years ago when I moved to Alabama. He was a stylist. I was 34 years young, so I just washed and dried my hair and put it up in a ponytail. I sat in his chair for the first time and he asked, "Do you always wear your hair like this?" I said no, and he said, "Good...cause it looks like s**t!"

 

That was the start of a beautiful friendship. Jim and his wife embraced me, my husband and my son. We were family in every sense of the word.

 

I will miss his laugh and his wonderful sense of humor. He was such a prankster!

 

Sleep well my dear friend.

I have been melting but haven't felt much like posting....but I think I got Glazed Donuts and something else going from Can Do.

Sharon, so sorry for the loss of your friend. there are some people that come into our lives that are of such a unique character that they can't be replaced and we find we miss them so much; especially when they have such a wonderful sense of humor . I feel for his family too. never easy but always hard when so unexpected.

its the one that has the writing going up and down with different words on it.

i've gotten one in that style jar from TJ Max before in a scent similar to green house and it was great. You just never know, do you?
