  1. I think I might drag out the rest of my autumn decorations this weekend, as it is finally starting to seem like fall around here to me. It is still warm today, but pleasantly so, and the night air is getting quite chilly. I'm so over summer! I've got Haley's Spice of the Forest in my melter right now. It's a really nice, fresh fall scent that I received as a freebie from a past order.
  2. Hmmmm... I never thought about it much, Viennalady, but you might be right! I know that I, personally, always look forward to Yankee's fall line and Halloween stuff. It's kind of like a highlight of the entire shopping year there! Autumn is when I really get into the mood to have a cozy candle burning, and I really do enjoy YC jar candles with their gorgeous labels and pretty shaped jars. Everyone, thank you so much for the concern regarding the fires here in Colorado! You guys are so caring and awesome. I'll be just fine because I don't live near there, but it's hard to look across the city and see all the smoke, knowing that so many people have lost their homes. My home is set up on top of a hill to the east, so I can see much of the Front Range from here. It's usually a gorgeous view, but today a little more than I want to see, if you know what I mean-- very sad! Right now I am melting YC Autumn Leaves. I had a Mountain Lodge tart going earlier, but I ended up having to remove it! It had a base note or undertone that smelled less fresh to me and more.... something else, don't know what! I'll have to check the fragrance description and see if I can identify the offending odor.
  3. Hi "Curious Gail"! I know what you mean about morphing scents! I don't know for sure, but I would think that certain scents in a given blend burn off more quickly than others, leaving a base scent underneath. I know with wearable fragrances, each has top, middle, and base notes. The base notes are what remain and really intermingle with skin chemistry. That's why when trying on fragrance they always say to wait for a bit for the middle and top notes to diminish before judging if you like it. I think perhaps another possibility is that our nose can get used to certain strong fragrance notes after a couple hours of smelling them, rendering our perception diminished to where we can't as easily smell them. Maybe this allows other fragrances in the blend to better stand out. But I would guess it has way more to do with certain fragrance notes fading more readily.
  4. So far this afternoon it's YC Autumn Lodge. I'm not smelling any smoke from the fires over across town in the Boulder canyons yet, but our air quality has been pretty poor since they started. I remember during the Hayman Fire back a number of years ago we actually had embers and scorched pine needles landing around the apartment where we lived at the time! It was so smokey and awful that we could hardly breathe even though we were miles away from the flames. We are pretty worried about all the folks in Boulder County, because winds are supposed to kick up really high later this afternoon, and it is just as dry as can be! We are hoping for quick containment and safety for all involved.
  5. This morning I have been melting the rest of CCCC Baton Rouge, a favorite! I think it still has plenty of "umph" so I will just leave it for the rest of the afternoon. Like others of you, I did watch Hoarders last night. I totally inspires me to clean out junk drawers and messy areas of the house. But, wow! I don't know about some of those poor people featured. It must be such a terrible, overwhelming problem for them to act like that. One good thing about candles is that I like to have everything clean and organized before I start burning or melting, and wanting to smell my goodies inspires me to straighten up regularly!
  6. Viennalady said: I guess some of us in YC locations are pretty darn spoiled! But you got me wondering about candle stores in Europe. Do you have any specialty candle stores near you that are sort of like Yankee? And wow, Jason, what a great haul at YC and BBW! I don't know what all you already had on hand, but with 60 new tarts you can totally do all sorts of "mixology" experiments. LLVV, we hardly ever lose electricity here because all our electric lines are buried underground, but I have to admit that it would never be a concern regarding lighting anyway. I'm not sure I would even notice the power is off with all the candlelight around here! This morning so far, I am finishing a YC Midsummer's Night tart. Not sure what I will throw into the melter later. You guys often influence my next melt or burn. Monkey see, monkey do!
  7. This morning it's CCCC Butermilk Pancakes, so far. Let's do hope that Earl swings wide to the right and misses all our friends on the Eastern seaboard. Sending prayers and good thoughts out to all who are in the hurricane's path! Well, I hit the YC sale last night, only for reasons I won't take time to explain, I had only a few minutes to dash in and out of the store. Thankfully, the store was empty and the gal there helped me quickly gather up all the tarts I was trying to buy, plus a votive holder I had seen online (the purple Casbah one, I think it was called.) I made it out of the store in just over eight minutes flat-- a YC record for me, to be sure! I can fritter away an hour in there easily, so for me that was no small feat. Anyway, I got around 30 tarts, mostly my all-time favorites I like to keep on hand, including Autumn Leaves, Sun & Sand, and Ocean Water. I did choose some bakery/food scents, but I guess I was mostly in a "fresh" mood. I love it when they have these sales!
  8. Gee, Gail! You are a poet, and I didn't even know it! I've been busy this morning doing this and that, and I've decided it is finally time to throw on a melt. Let's see, I think I'm in the mood for CCCC white cake. It's just too warm for a candle right now.
  9. You guys are just too funny! Tonight it is just too hot for me to be in the mood for a warm and cozy scent, so tonight it is Colonial Candle citrus plum. Very refreshing and uplifting!
  10. So glad you have come back! From a fellow Coloradoan, welcome!!
  11. Hope you have lots of fun and get inspired to try all sorts of new candles and melts! Welcome, Katherine!
  12. Hi Nygal! Sounds like you are pretty like-minded when it comes to wax and scents. Welcome!
  13. Ok, here is my first post on the new forum design and I sure hope I don't mess things up. I think the design is really classy and that the change is great! I have been melting CCCC Flower Bomb this afternoon, but I can't smell very well for some reason and ended up turning it off so I could enjoy the melt later. I don't have a cold or anything, but I do have a slight sinus headache-- strange! My kids go back to school tomorrow too. I can't believe that summer is coming to an end already, but the first hints of fall are in the air and I'm quite ready to dive into Autumn!
  14. Hello, and welcome Rainer! I, too, am a big Yankee fan. I've been to Austria, and it is just gorgeous there! Hope you have lots of fun on the forum!
  15. . Trep, Lush features trendy bath and body products that are supposed to be eco friendly and natural. Their scents are unique and famous enough that many wax vendors have come up with dupes for their more popular fragrances, such as "Honey, I washed the kids" and "Rockstar". I've not tried any of their products yet, but they do have a website I've browsed. (Probably lush.com? I don't remember, but you could google it.) I smelled a dupe of their soap "Honey, I washed the kids" in the form of a tart by CBV that had me drooling! It was called "Bathtime with Pooh", and it is said by reviewers to be a dead-on dupe. So I am really excited to try the soap! But for now I am burning my Colonial Candle in Citrus Plum and getting ready to have some lunch. Hope everyone has a great week!
  16. Hi, everyone! Burning my CBV Apricot Freesia candle this evening. It's not a super strong scent, but --wow!-- does it ever throw!! I can detect the scent even downstairs! I would love to visit a Lush store, too! We've got one in the Denver metro area, but it is way over in Boulder to the northwest of the city. It's located on the outdoor Pearl Street Mall, which would be such a big pain to get to and navigate through. But I'm thinking about going to a fall fastival located there later in September. It would be a good excuse to drive over there to pick up some Lush goodies. I've heard there will be all kinds of street vendors, entertainment and food, and I know there will be tons of fun shops and restaurants to visit.
  17. I'm just glad to hear that I am not the only one who tends to do that now and then! :) I just woke up from a nap (a Friday afternoon luxury) and am getting ready to light up my Citrus Plum Colonial Candle, one of my all time favorites! I am going to be sad when it's all used up and gone.
  18. Welcome Lauren! We look forward to talking some scents with you, too! [smilie=th_WooHooRainbowWaveJackie_vi7]
  19. GeckoGirl, is you garage, by any chance, air conditioned?
  20. Tonight it's Lessie's Haunted House, by Can-Do. I'm thinking ahead to cooler weather, experimenting with some fall scents to see what I might want to order more of. So far, I would have to say that this unique scent is a real winner!!!
  21. So glad you have joined us, Deirdre! Sounds like you have definitely earned some recreational "down time" to goof off with all of us scent addicts!
  22. LLVV, warm thoughts, wishes and prayers coming to you, your dad, and your entire family. Sorry things have been tough, and I hope all is better soon! Meling a CBV scent shot in Edward Cullen. It smells really good, predominately like honey I would say.
  23. I look forward to hearing more from you. Hello, and welcome!
  24. My own ceilings upstairs are cathedral style, but not terribly high. Still, the living room, kitchen, and dining room are all open together, and it can be super tricky to scent everything. I finally discovered that turning on my ceiling fan on its slowest speed helps circulate wax scents best. If I am burning candles and don't want to deal with drafts, I will often buy two or more of the same candles and burn them simultaneously in different parts of upstairs.
  25. Hope everyone is having a great Saturday and staying at least somewhat cool and comfortable. It's a wonder if some of you don't have all your wax just spontaneously melting in all the heat! Have any of you stopped melting for fear of adding to the heat in your homes? Thanks to my A/C running full blast I am still melting. This morning it has been Haley's 7-UP Pound Cake.
