  1. Thanks, Sweet and Trep! Yeah, sometimes people do things that make you wonder if common sense is as common as we tend to assume it is. We had already been living in fear of stray illegal fireworks landing on all the crispy, dry vegetation around here. I just can't believe those neighbors thought that was safe. Sweet, thanks for your remarks about my avatar. I thought it was too cute to pass up on downloading. Now that you mention it, the kitten does look like it is smiling a bit, maybe having a pleasant dream or something. I wish I had a real one just like that to cuddle with. I love cats! My older cat is wonderful, but just not as frisky and energetic as he used to be. He is right under foot even as I am typing this-- a devoted, loyal tabby. I've been in a restless mood, scent wise. I got tired of the watermelon and ended up switching to YC Sun and Sand. But right now I've got Haley's Precious Kitty in my melter. It's a fruity/floral blend that's really nice.
  2. I've had YC Juicy Watermelon going this morning since I got up and got my coffee-- both in a candle and in tart forms, so it smells pretty summery in our home. I think later on I might add some CCCC Watermelon Smoothie when the YC tart starts to fade. I can't even imagine how miserable all these extreme high temps are for those stuck with them! I do love summertime, but mostly in the evening and early morning when it has cooled off a bit. I know that it never really cools off much at night in certain places. I really feel for you guys going many days on end without getting any real break from the heat! Last night was "interesting" around here. It's extremely dry here along the Colorado Front Range (as evidenced by our huge, recent forest fires) even though monsoonal rains are gradually kicking in in certain locations. Anyway, around 11:00 pm I heard a commotion outside. An alert neighbor was screaming at some other neighbors out back who had a huge bon fire going in their back yard, and she ended up calling the police, who quickly responded. I couldn't believe it! One stray spark could have sent our back fence and entire back yard up in explosive flames. It's fortunate they didn't burn the entire block down.
  3. Hi Everyone! I don't happen to be burning or melting anything at the moment (trying to allow my air conditioning to catch up after all the heat generated by cooking earlier) but my most recent melt has been CBV Blueberry Cobbler. I'll fire it up again here in a bit. So yummy!
  4. Hi everyone! Enjoying YC Hearts and Flowers this afternoon. I had sort of forgotten about this candle until I went through my stash yesterday to pull out some lighter scents for spring. Wow-- it is snowing like crazy here alone the Colorado Front Range! But you can tell it's a spring storm because the bottom few inches of the accumulation is slush. That's great, because we really need the moisture!
  5. So far today I have melted a couple CBV candles in Blackberry Walnut and Brown Sugar Shortbread. I figure I should probably use up some of my many candles while it is still cool enough to enjoy them, and then later on in Spring I will concentrate on melting. Actually, for this to be January in Colorado, I can't believe how warm and dry it is out! It makes me worry about wildfires later this summer.
  6. Just an off the cuff idea, but this always works for me in cooking when I'm dealing with thick mixtures I need to spread around neatly. Try putting the body butter into a heavier weight ziplock bag and cut one of the very bottom corners off as large as you need to squeeze the butter out. That way you can pipe thick ribbons of it exactly where you want in the container without the sides above getting smeared and messy. I'm guessing the body butter or salts will then gradually flatten out to a smooth surface, especially if slightly warmed. Hope this helps!
  7. Yankee Candle has some odor neutralizing scents in a two fresh fragrance versions, green and blue (don't remember off hand what the fragrances are called.) If I remember correctly it comes in wax form, in candles at least, which could be scooped out into a melter. Votives can be used unlit directly in a melter as a tart. Admittedly at the time I bought from this line I was looking more for instant relief in spray form. Our house smelled like a smoke pit from forest fires in nearby mountains, and that stuff from Yankee really helped! Sales staff at our local Yankee store said there had been quite a run on their odor eliminator line all over the city. Febreeze odor eliminating candles, sold at mass retailers, could probably also be used unlit in a melter. But I will keep my eyes out for any actual odor eliminating melts. Good luck!
  8. Whew! So relieved to hear you aren't picking your nose, Gail! Aria, glad you are getting your sniffer back. There's just nothing as frustrating as being a scented wax addict and not being able to indulge! Today, in keeping with the spirit of Christmas, I have BG&H Peppermint in the melter. You can smell this one all over the house and it's quite festive.
  9. I've been melting BH&G Spiced Pumpkin Pie today, or at least that's what I think it was called. This one smelled super strong in the clamshell container, but really hasn't pumped out as much scent as I thought it might. I'm trying to remember how old it is... Anyway, goodnight to all!
  10. Hello MaggieMae, I wish you were melting some fabulous smellies instead of trying to find electricity and gas, and trying to stay warm. Best wishes to you, Candlelove, and everyone else coping with the after effects of Sandy. So far I haven't been melting or burning anything yet today, but I'm planning to try out one of my new tarts from Yankee shortly, when I get around to throwing it in my melter. Think I'll try Sugared Apple. I've heard it's really more of a fall scent than Holiday. Also on my Yankee melting agenda is Pinecone & Lime, which on cold sniff seems interesting. I'm curious to see how it will smell warmed up! It is hard to believe it's already November. Have a great All Saints Day, and a great start to November everyone!
  11. Hello everyone, and Happy Halloween! Melting YC Harvest Welcome so far today, but will probably switch out to Lessie's Haunted House before long. It's a little sad celebrating Halloween knowing that so many people are struggling just to get through the day there on the east coast. I sure hope everyone is ok, and am sending prayers your way. It's so beautiful here in Colorado that it's hard to imagine such a storm!
  12. I think I paid $3.57 a gallon this morning, though prices have varied by a few cents in this part of the Denver area. I haven't heard of any restrictions on gas purchasing here, but how unnerving to think that supplies (and unscrupulous suppliers!) are that messed up in places! And wow-- $10.30 a gallon?
  13. Hello everyone, I hope you are enjoying your Sunday evening as much as I am. I'm hanging out, burning my CBV Cherries & Chestnuts candle.
  14. Hi everyone, hope your morning is getting off to a great start and stays that way! Yesterday I was melting/burning Haley's Mid Summers Night, and then this morning I have a candle from Yankee lit up, Amber Sunset.
  15. Haven't gotten around to melting anything yet today, but recent fragrances include Coconut Hibiscus and Strawberry Milkshake, both by Haleys. I just wanted to say hello and wish everyone a great day!
  16. Hello and welcome! Prepare your wallet and ready your melter... you are in for fun new ideas in the world of wax!
  17. Hi Everyone! Taking a break from my Olympics viewing to check in and see what everyone is melting. Tonight I have Pier One Imports Citrus Cilantro in my melter. I didn't realize the store was even selling clamshell tarts or scented oils until I browsed in there the other day. The tart is nice and strong, I'm happy to report!
  18. Jules asked: My Pistachio Pudding candle came in a 10 oz glass apothecary jar with flat glass lid and was double wicked. I've been wondering if the candle practically drove us out of the house with its strength because in transit it had gotten warm. It looked to me like some of the fragrance oil had migrated up towards the surface of the wax, so maybe I got an intense dose of fragrance during the burn. But in general I would say that it is a rather strong scent anyway. I've had half of a Spotted Hog tart cup going on my melter since this morning, called Frosted Orange Cupcakes. Talk about strong! I can't imagine if I had put the entire tart in! Bummer about Daisy getting stinky, MaggieMae. It might take an enzyme cleaner like Nature's Miracle or some sort of special pet shampoo to get that out, whatever the mystery offender is. Why do dogs just seem to have a knack for assaulting our nasal passages sometimes? Today our dog, Teri, has been passing some gas so foul that you just wouldn't believe!
  19. Well, I guess it was not to be that the 12 people killed at the theater would not have any connection to my own little corner of Aurora. I guess it's just not that big of a town. Sadly, we lost a well-known member of our church, 27 year-old Alex Sullivan. He had been married for only a year, and his wife is so devestated as to be incoherent. And the aunt of the little six year-old killed, Veronica Moser, is connected with our parish, too. The little girl's mother is in critical condition over at a nearby hospital and the family... well, you can just imagine. Our congregation was in tears this morning. So senseless and pointless, yet so many lives gone or changed forever. I know everyone here in our town certainly appreciates all your sympathy, heartfelt thoughts and prayers. You guys are great! On a lighter, happier note, let's talk "candle". I finally lit up a candle from Haley's Heavenly Scents called Pistachio Pudding (or something close to that). I couldn't believe the scent this one, small jar candle pumped out! I think I might light it up again today. My kids are baking cookies to enter into the county fair this week, so I don't think something floral or fresh will go with the scent of baking.
  20. Sweetspiceygrl said yesterday: Thank you so much for reaching out in sympathy! It is a difficult time here in Aurora, and for everyone touched by the events of July 20. I can't even count how many times I have seen movies at that very theater where it happened, so the tragedy hits home for me in a way more vivid and real than most tragic events I hear about. Somehow we will pick ourselves up and move on, but I predict the coming weeks will be tough. I'm waiting for a victims list to be released, but not really expecting to know anyone killed. I do know people who had loved ones or friends at the showing there, and they are understandably shaken even more than the rest of us. I'm trying to stay away from that area, not wanting to contribute to the chaos. It's sort of hard because that area at I-225 and Alameda is such major shopping area and central part of town. One of these days I will go over there and pay my respects in my own private way. I don't know if I'm even in the mood to burn or melt anything today, but maybe I will put something on later. I could probably use a scent lift.
  21. I'm melting the rest of CBV Banana Coconut Creme Pie (yummm!) and trying to decide what I'm in the mood for next... Since I'm hanging around the house today to catch up on chores, I think I might light up my CBV Hawaiian Tropics candle. It think it will smell great with the pie scent and cause my family to drool with hunger!
  22. I threw an old favorite into my melter first thing this morning: YC Sun & Sand. It would definitely be a good day to go to the beach if I had one near me. It's going to be super hot here in Colorado again! Have a great day!
  23. Good morning, Candlefriends! I'm living vicariously through your candle/melt fragrancing because my nose (and taste buds) have taken a leave of absence due to a yucky cold. Who the heck gets a cold this time of year anyway?!? Crazy! I think maybe this evening I will light a candle up anyway just to enjoy the beauty. I've got some really pretty tealight holders I don't often use so much because I usually opt for more heavy fragrance. Hope all of you are enjoying as pretty of a morning as we are having in Colorado along the Front Range of the Rockies. Have a great day!
  24. Good morning, Candlefriends! I'm starting my day off with YC Stawberry Buttercream. Yummm!
  25. Hi everyone, I've had BHG Cherry Blossoms going all day, but I think it is about all used up. I was so inspired by all the pretty fruit trees blooming outside that I was totally in the mood for this scent.
