  1. Oh my, Vienna, how miserable! I hope your tooth gets fixed soon and that the scents you are burning successfully distract your attention and send you into a state of bliss. Great fragrances! Sweet, I know you must be missing your poor kitty tonight! Most of the snow we got yesterday has already melted off despite chilly temps, but more is on the way tomorrow. It finally feels like fall now! I've been burning Woodwick Pomander (a spicy, orange scent) and Slatkin Cranberry Woods so far today. I think I might put one of my new YC Christmas melts on my electric melter tomorrow. After all, we are already being bombarded with Christmas commercials on TV-- tis the season!
  2. We bought a new leaf blower/vacuum this afternoon to more easily deal with the leaf accumulation on our front lawn, only right when we took it out and were ready to try it out the skies opened up and it started to sleet like crazy! Oh well, though we'll have to wait for everything to dry out a bit, we really do need the moisture here in Colorado. After highs in the mid to upper 70s over the past few days, temps are finally starting to drop and feel more chilly-- like Fall! I've been melting/burning Slatkin Cranberry Woods, AMS Buttery Pumpkin, and Haley's Pumpkin Pie Spice. Yummm! It's all putting me in the mood for a Thanksgiving turkey dinner.
  3. Maureen, that Lush scent does sound totally yummy! This morning I have been melting Can-Do's Pumpkin Bread Puddin. Oh my gosh, this scent is fabulous and has my whole home smelling wonderful! This one is a definite re-order!
  4. Hey Stardustgirl and Maurie, I just signed up this morning for the CBV message board as username "Carol". I'll be on the lookout for you guys when I pop in for visits! I love CBV candles and have quite a few of them. I, too, am calling it quits for a while as far as wax ordering goes, except that I want another CBV candle for Christmas (maybe one of those fancy numbers, like Somemores Galore with all the whipped wax, decorations and multiple scents-in-one) along with a few scent shots to sample for future reference. After all, I still have to plot orders for later next year! My wax stash is getting too big and I'm afraid things will start to lose freshness if I don't crack down on my stash and use what I already have in stock. So consider me a partner in lockdown (aside from the whole CBV candle exception thing, of course!)
  5. Aria said: Oh yeah, this one does have quite a fascinating twist! I actually own a copy of this movie. Sweet, so happy to hear your good news, and I hope everything goes smoothly as you start your new job! I know exactly what it's like to be spooked by your very own pet critters! One time my DD's gerbil escaped, and I didn't realize it. I was up late watching a movie when I heard some sort of creature rummaging around in our pantry. Honestly, it sounded like a raccoon in there or something it was so loud! I grabbed a broom and cautiously approached to open the pantry door, ready to attack, when I had a gnawing thought in the back of my mind about the gerbil. Sure enough, the cage was empty! The gerbil remained on the loose for a day or so when we located it under the kitchen stove. We ended up pulling the stove out and blowing the critter out from under it with my husband's air compressor! So funny! This morning I have been melting, and burning, YC Autumn Wreath. Love this one, but my little mini jar candle is suffering from drowning wick syndrome now that it has burned about half way down. Frustrating!
  6. LLVV, I'm so sorry for your family's grief and pain. I just wanted to suggest that there are some really great companies out there who can send nice people out to your parent's home to help out with the routine maintenance of life (grocery shopping, light cleaning, bill paying, meal preparation, etc.) I happen to work for one of them, called Touching Hearts at Home, which is a nationwide franchise. Oftentimes insurance helps pay for the service, and it can be a real lifesaver for family members coping with such situations as yours. I'm not sure if we have service where you live (www.touchinghearts.com) but it might be worth checking out such an option. God Bless! I've been melting my last YC Autumn Leaves tart today, and the scent is still going strong. I know what you guys mean about Slatkin Candles being frustrating to work with wick-wise. On QVC Slatkin says his candle wicks are designed to almost never need trimming, so I'm wondering if that is why they can be so infuriating sometimes? I certainly can't complain about the scent and wax-- the fragrance and throw is fantastic! I recently bought a cranberry scented (Cranberry Woods?) three wick that I haven't burned yet, and I'm sure hoping it doesn't turn into a major project wick-wise!
  7. It's been such a warm, pretty afternoon here in Colorado that it hasn't felt inviting to melt hearty, warm, spicy scents. Instead, YC Lakeside Birch, a fresher Autumn scent, has been liquifying in my electric melter day. But I'm starting to get tired of it and might pop in something totally different in a while. Maybe something fruity or a bit spicey like Baton Rouge. I really like the November thread title too-- great one! The only thing better than a turkey feast is a feast of scents! I'm bummed for Joan and all the rest of you who have been having some wick and scent problems. How frustrating! Next to drowning wicks, no-throws are my biggest frustration, followed closey by scents with yucky chemical undertones. Here's to better burning ahead!!
  8. Hi everyone! I can definitely sympathize with all you sleepy heads having trouble getting going today after all the fun last night. I was up fairly late last night, and then my daughter woke me up from a deep sleep because she needed some cough medicine. Never did drift back off until close to morning. Maybe it was all that sugar last night? Katz, I'll go trick-or-treating at your house any ol' year if I can get my hands on tarts. How fun! I can't face Christmas shopping just yet, but it is definitely on my radar. I know better than to wait. One year, I waited too long, and I literally ended up in tears because I couldn't find what I was searching for and no one would even let my shopping cart enter the flow of "traffic" into the main aisle of a Target store! And then the parking lot was a competitive nightmare-- vultures swooping in for the kill, honking and blocking cars so they could wait for someone to pull out-- all in the windy cold and snow! I'm all about shopping online these days. For now, I'm still into harvest mode. In fact, I'm melting YC Harvest.
  9. Yikes, Debra! What a mess you had to clean up! I hope the rest of your Halloween evening went a bit better. We didn't have near as many trick-or-treaters as I expected this evening, though the weather was warm and gorgeous. I stayed home to give out candy this year, and I really enjoyed all the adorable costumes! Hope everyone had a great time. Thanksgiving and Christmas, here we come! Get those holiday tarts and candles ready!
  10. Happy Halloween! This afternoon I will be burning and melting YC Candy Corn, and I'll probably indulge in some Can-Do Lessie's Haunted House too. Regarding my Halloween bug horror story: It was so windy yesterday that we gave up on spraying the nasty insects out on our front yard tree. And I don't want to expose trick-or-treaters to pesticides, so we will have to wait until later in the week. I spent almost an hour on the internet looking at bug pictures, trying to figure out what on earth they are. I know for sure that we have a few box elder bugs out there, which isn't a big deal, but these other things are a mystery. However, I finally remembered that these exact, same bugs were absolutely destroying one of our rose bushes earlier this summer-- I knew they looked vaguely familiar! A quick spray of insect killer destroyed them completely, so I have great hope that increasingly freezing temps and some pesticide will end the nasty infestation. Near as I can tell, the adults look to be some sort of large soft, ridged beetle or aphid-- no webs or obvious signs of boring yet. They are super ugly and nothing I ever want to see again! EEEEK! Trep, glad you are ok! How genuinely scary! I'm off to eat some lunch and carve a pumpkin. Think I'll toast some of the seeds, too! Have an awesome day, everyone!
  11. Happy Halloweekend, everyone! (Such a fun new term, I agree!) I will have Can-Do's Lessie's Haunted House going all day in my electric melter while I am doing chores and such, and then I think I might heat up my Dark Candles Dracula melt later this evening. I haven't tried this scent yet, but there's no better time than this Halloweekend to give it a whirl. Here in Colorado most of our afternoons have been pleasantly warm, but I love how it actually cools off now at night. I enjoy candles so much more when there is a chill in the air! I really need to go out and rake the front lawn, but I am a bit squeamish about doing so ever since we discovered that our giant maple and its surroundings are completely infested with little hatchling bugs and their larger counterparts. The grownups sort of look like squash bugs with red markings on their long, narrow back-- yuck! Anyone know what they are? As soon as I get the leaves up we are going to spray everything on and around the tree. You'd think the hard freezes at night would kill them, but obviously not. This little problem is definitely not the sort of Halloween spook I had had in mind!
  12. Wow-- not sure I could cope with four months away from my smellies! Glad you are back in the world of wax!
  13. Hello and welcome, Mer! I had to giggle when you referred to your order of over 20 tarts being huge! Just wait till you hear how many tarts many of us keep on hand and routinely order. I predict we will succeed in totally corrupting you! So glad you joined us!
  14. I join everyone in wishing LLVV and CBGirl happy birthday! Hope your celebrations are everything you hoped for and more. And thanks so much for all the encouragement and expressions of happiness that my surgery went well. I was pretty sore for a while and not feeling much up to time at my computer, but I was thinking of you all and missing the fun! It's good to be back. So far today it's been Can-Do Lessie's Haunted House, and Sweet Milk from CBV. I can't believe Halloween is only a week away! I've been strategizing on which scents to make sure I melt before next weekend. For me, Halloween is one of those holidays that when it's over, it's really over for me. But we are supposed to have nice weather, and I'm excited for all the kids (and grown-up kids!) My neighbor across the street goes all out each year, and I can't wait to see what costume she has come up with this time!
  15. Hi everyone! I'm back after having recovered enough from surgery to be back on my computer again! I've missed you guys and have so much to catch up on. Thank you so much for all the prayers and well wishes. They must have worked, because I did get some good news from my biopsy-- nothing malignant, thank goodness! It turned out to be something completely unexpected that took a long surgery to fix, but I have a really good chance of complete recovery now. Yeah!!! I haven't been melting a whole lot lately for obvious reasons, but recent scents have been my YC Moonlight Harvest candle, Can-do Lessie's Haunted House, Graveyard from Dark Candles, and AMS Seasalt Caramel.
  16. I can just imagine how surprised you were to discover all the great changes! Welcome back!
  17. Sounds like we will have lots of fun talking to you! Welcome!
  18. Maureen, sending prayers out for Randi S. I know it must be a terribly difficult time for all involved! LLVV, I bought a whole bunch of YC Early Sunrise at the last $1 tart sale. I agree that it is nothing to write home about upon cold sniff, but so lively and invigorating when melted-- and each tart seems to last forever! I started out the day melting YC Evening Air, but I removed it for later because the turkey roast I put in the oven started scenting the house and competing. I think I will light up my Colonial Candle Citrus Plum candle until after dinner is through. Plum and citrus scents go great with poultry! I had gotten started on melting many of my more fall-like scents over the past couple weeks, only to have the weather outside spike up to temps more typical of summertime. Here in the Denver area forecasters are calling for a high of 93 degrees tomorrow, and just about the same level of heat throughout the rest of the week. I don't know whether to pop in YC Sun & Sand and blend up a margarita or keep telling myself that it's actually Autumn already! And, Gail, glad to hear you finally got some java! Better noon than not at all, I suppose!
  19. Aria said re: Can-Do's Country Store Thanks for the tip, Aria! Country Store is a beautiful scent, and I predict that when it mellows out a bit I can melt it with no problems. I rather like spicey scents now and then, especially during Autumn months, but my kids complain when I have them going. I think they prefer fresh and bakery scents. Sadly, my melting hobby must necessarily extend to the needs and preferences of my dear family members. But, hey, they are worth it!
  20. LLVV and Debra: The melter I was talking about that shuts off after eight hours was from Can-do. I also bought some of Donna's metal melting pans to use with it. Earlier this summer, when hot weather was at its peak, if I left the melter on so long that it shut off, I would have to wait as long as a day and a half before it would turn on again. I'm guessing the internal temperature had to cool down to a certain point? Anyway, I really do like the melter and feel safer using it, but I do wish it came with a reset button. This morning I have been melting Can-Do country store, but I had to turn it off for a bit because it was getting so strong! My DD was having some asthma problems, and I wanted to be sure the smell didn't aggravate her lungs. The scent is really lovely and spicey, but I think a faint aroma of it would be just absolutely perfect! CMarie, I hope everything gets better and better for you! And Aria, I hope you don't blow away! Ouch, Gail, still a 103 F out this time of year?!?
  21. I join others in offering congratulations to Cinnamonkitty! About CBV, I definitely plan to buy more of these later this fall. I ordered a bunch of scent shots at the end of this past spring, and now I think I know exactly what I want more of, especially Neptune's Oasis and Bathtime with Pooh-- large jars and more tarts! Tonight it's Haley's Snickerdoodle. The only problem is it's smelling so good that I'm beginning to crave (and eat) sweets! I had Slatkin's Autumn going earlier, in the form of a single wick mini candle sitting on my combo melter, but the eight-hour safety shut off mechanism kicked in and the melter can't be restarted until it cools down completely. I had gotten so frustrated with the wick on the candle that I gave up on keeping it lit. Oh well, it was only $5 and it still scents the place nicely on the melter.
  22. This morning it's Can-Do Lessie's Prim Wishes. I haven't decided what else quite yet, but I will be doing housework all day, so I'm sure I will have fragrance fired up in several rooms of my house.
  23. Yeah! Cat's back! This morning so far it's Can-Do Cast Iron Cookies in my melter. I just knew I would love this one, no surprise. My house smells so good! Like Dabbadooey, we are so dry here along Colorado's Front Range that I was stunned when a small, brief shower fell over our neighborhood last night. It didn't even show up on weather radar, but it helps me believe that measurable precipitation might some day still be possible! Anyway, Aria, hope you get some yummy vittles at the store and don't get too soaked.
  24. Aria, I love your little smiliecon hanging from the leaf! How adorable and perfect for fall! This morning I'm remelting the rest of my CBV scent shot Bathtime With Pooh. I really want to order this in a candle version. Toffee drizzled with honey-- yummm! Mornings here are downright chilly now, but our afternoons are still uncomfortably hot around 3-5 pm with the sun beating down and all. We put a few of our autumn decorations outside, but I've noticed no one else in the neighborhood has any pumpkins or decorations out yet, so I think I might wait on the rest. Maybe it's still just too warm yet for anyone to get into a fall mood?
