  1. Wow-- sounds like we are in good company regarding the heat! We are expecting highs in the low 100s tomorrow and in the high 90s today. But, as my friend from Minnesota always points out, "It's a dry heat!" I don't care. It's still roasting hot and miserable!! Adding to the heat by melting the rest of my Haley's Strawberry Shortcake.
  2. Hi everyone! This evening I am melting Haley's Strawberry Shortcake, and burning a YC Coconut Bay candle in the powder room. It smells delicious around here!
  3. I find that citrus or herbal scents work nicely when I am cooking main dishes, and then it's a simple matter to find a complementary scent when baking, of course. Often, I just unplug my melter and light an unscented or lightly scented candle if it looks like smells are going to clash. I love plugging in my crock pot for a lazy evening's meal, but find that it really limits what scents I can melt until later after dinner. :)
  4. How fun to have you on board! Bet you have lots of interesting wax experiences and insights to share. Welcome! :)
  5. Debra said: Debra, I sure hope it won't be too expensive to get the dearly departed rodents removed. It sounds just awful! I have to say that, as much flack as I take from my family about all the wax I hoard, I am the first person they come running to when there is an odor emergency! Burning YC Coconut Bay, wishing I could climb into the scene pictured on the front of the candle!
  6. Hope everyone had a fantastic 4th! Ours was nice, but it rained almost constantly last night. Strangely, the rain didn't stop neighborhood revelers from shooting off fireworks up until the wee hours of the morning! I 'm gulping down coffee this morning, trying to wake up after not falling asleep until 2 AM, when things finally quieted down. (Would have complained to the authoriities, but fireworks are illegal here so people just quickly shoot off a couple at a time-- almost impossible to catch red-handed!) I've been burning a small Darsee & David strawberry scented candle (an older one I had on hand) and am melting Melon Ball, a CBV scent shot. Think I will head out to some sales and take the kids out to the reservoir swim beach for some fun in the sun today. :)
  7. Glad you are ok, Denimsway! How scary! I hope all of you will have a wonderful weekend, and for those of us in the good 'ole USA, a wonderful 4th of July celebration!. I know I, personally, intend to down some hot dogs, hamburgers and potato salad-- just to name a few of my Independence Day mandatory treats. This year I've really gotten into the spirit and even made a compilation CD of my favorite patriotic songs. I'll be eating some watermelon later, but for now I am smelling it! I'm melting a CBV scent shot in Melon Ball. Happy Birthday USA!
  8. Hello, and welcome SweetTart! So glad you found this fun site and are joining in!
  9. Well, I am living vicariously through all you guys, imagining how wonderful the scents you are burning are because I am away from home (visiting relatives) until later this coming weekend. I think I truly might be addicted to wax because I am definitely having withdrawals!!
  10. Hello and welcome! Out of curiosity, do you have a cinnamon colored kitty? [smilie=th_Animated20Dogs20waving]
  11. Hi Bridget, I'm from Colorado too-- from Aurora over in the Denver Metro area! I'm pretty new to the forum too, and have been having a blast talking "candles". You are just going to love some of the inexpensive wax companies out there on the internet. I have tons of candle purchasing options here in town, yet I order quite a bit online. Glad to have you with us!
  12. This morning I have been melting a Mermaid Kiss scent shot from CBV. Smells good!
  13. Hang in there Maureen! It does sound like you are up to you eyeballs in books. (That's only a fun situation when you are a library or book store customer!) Right now I am burning YC Make Waves and YC Sun and Sand. I'm watching television news coverage about the Gulf oil spill, smelling those wonderful "beachy" scents, and getting steamed!!! I'm a total beach addict living in landlocked Colorado! Makes sense, huh???
  14. So far this morning all I have burning is Slatkin Cool Tropical Breeze, a three-wick tumbler. Interesting-- it has a palm tree and ocean picture on the label but smells more warm to me, like tropical fruit and sunshine. I'm still trying to wake up to a full functioning state this morning. I love songbirds, but early this AM one of them sang the same song outside my bedroom window repeatedly! I never quite did fall back into a deep sleep.
  15. I'm melting CBV Paradise Bay and burning YC End of the Line (soy tumbler). It was a fairly cool, comfortable day up until the late afternoon hours, when I finally had to turn the air conditioner. Dabbadooey, glad you got your A/C fixed and are enjoying some relief from the heat!
  16. Anjoymom, I hope you and your hubby are soon feeling better and back to smelling delightful scents soon. It's no fun having a cold anyway, but especially irritating when you miss out on a lucious whiff of strawberry rhubarb pie! I hope you could at least taste it ok. I'm melting the last of Melon Mania by CCCC as I get ready to head off to work tonight. It has been a gorgeous day here in the Mile High City! Happy Memorial Day everyone!
  17. I just put CCCC Fresh Cut Lemon Slices into my melter. I thought I could use a little citrus boost this morning. Unbelievably, the scent is wafting all the way downstairs!
  18. Denim, it sounds like you have a sinus infection. No wonder you can't smell a thing! You must be miserable. Hope the doc was able to help out! This morning I was burning the YC Garden Mint three-wick tumbler I got at the YC clearance sale this morning. The melt pool was fantastic, but it didn't pump out quite as much scent as I expected, or at least the fragrance was softer than I expected. Now I am burning YC Sun and Sand, one of my all time favorites for summertime!
  19. What a bummer to lose you on the forum, Denny, but hopefully you can pop in now and then for a quick hello! Melting Sea Harbor by YC this evening. I just blew out my YC Sun and Sand tumbler because the wind is kicking up and all our windows are open.
  20. Glad you made it to work ok, Sweet&Spiceygrl! Bet your critters were wondering why they couldn't get you to slow down and pay more attention to them this morning. Don't all our animal friends believe they rank top priority no matter what? Mine sure do! I've been melting the remainder of Bermuda Breeze (CCCC) today and think I will pop in Sumer Daze next. I haven't tried it yet, but it sure smells delicious on cold sniff!
  21. I have been melting Haley's Amish Friendship (Bread?) this morning. What a perfect scent for starting off the day! I hope all the folks in Oklahoma and surrounding states have been surviving the wild weather ok, especially you, Jason. It sounds like the Dallas area is under the gun right now. Denver's tornado season doesn't really crank up until early June, and usually isn't too severe, though last year one hit right nearby and almost completely destroyed one of my favorite restaurants. If the twister had hit the Yankee Candle store in the same shopping center any worse than it did (just broken windows and external building damage-- wax was ok) I would have been a basket case!
  22. Started off the day with YC Fruit Salad.
  23. You are right, Denimsway, that it has a gorgeous cold sniff. It reminds me a lot of YC Beachwalk, except maybe with a slightly more floral undertone. It's definitely not the sort of scent that blows you out of the room strength-wise! I sure wish it would! Only after I had about a 1/2 inch melt pool going did I smell a faint, but fresh, scent wafting around upstairs. The first major burn I did I couldn't detect much smell, but it seems to be getting better as the wax burns lower and responds to "memory" by liquifying more readily. I've been burning it at the same time I melt similar scents that I can more easily smell. I really like the color of the wax, and it goes with some of my seashells and summer beach decorations on the coffee table. (I am totally landlocked here, but I can dream...) I'm in a tropical mood today. Melting Haley's Coconut Hibiscus-- Yummmmy!
  24. Good for you, Sillysmom! Congratulations for getting off to a good start with WW. And, Aria, I hope you are smelling all sorts of wonderful scents! Hope your nose gets back to its old self soon. This afternoon I have been burning and melting YC Ocean Water. I've always loved this one, and my husband is nuts about it, too!
