  1. A special hello and sincere wishes of safety for everyone battling the elements today! Stay safe out there. I put the last of CBV Sweet Milk candle on my warmer to finish out and then lit up YC Sugarcane and Bamboo. It smells so warm and sweet all over our house now. Here in Denver it isn't storming, but schools and many businesses are cancelled due to extreme temperatures. This morning my old car fired right up (though it sure made some funny noises at first), but I thought I would never get my windshields cleared enough to drive to work without resorting to a hammer and chisel. My DH handed me a can of that de-icer spray to try, and the spray instantly froze solid into an additional coating of heavy ice! "Really?" Our new neighbors from Michigan said even they were impressed by the cold (-12 when I woke up this morning) and windchill (-36). I think the record is something like -18, and they said we will give the record a run for its money tonight. It's definitely a good time to fire up some candles!
  2. Good morning, everyone! It's getting super cold here in the Denver Metro area. When we got up this morning it was 25 degrees F, but now we are down to 10 degrees and falling quickly. Tomorrow's high will be minus 2! But the snow we are getting isn't expected to total more than about half a foot, and we aren't facing anything even close to the threat of ice storms and blizzards expected in the Midwest. I hope everyone out that way stays safe and warm! So far this morning it's been CCCC Banana Brulee and YC Sugarcane and Vanilla scenting my home. I'm always in the mood for vanilla/bakery comfort fragrances when it's cold out.
  3. I, too, can recommend CBV or Haley's, either one. I would have to say that CBV is my all around favorite and go to brand, but I also really like the two wick jars in Haley's. The only criticism of CBV I can think of is that even though they offer at least 600 amazing scents, their candle colors can get kind of monotonous. Most of her candles and scent shots come in one shade each of blue, sort of a darker pink to watermelon red color, green, yellow, dark purple, cream and white, orange, and brown. It has repeatedly happened that, because I really like tropical scents for instance, I will end up with four or five CBV candles that look exactly alike-- all the same shade of blue. I really wish their wax came in a bigger variety of colors such as navy blue, sage green, and ruby red, or soft pastel variants such as lilac. But the candles are made of the sort of soft paraffin I like, and all of her scents throw beautifully for me even if they happen to be subtle fragrances. I haven't had any drowning wick problems, only some mushrooming on occasion that doesn't even disturb the intensity of the flame or ruin the candle's performance. I usually cannot abide by mushrooming wicks, but it's no big deal with her's for some reason. Haley's, on the other hand, seems to produce candles in many different shades and pastels, or at least they always have so far as I can remember. Their candles have come in pretty shades of aqua, pinks, and other colors and hues. I don't know if all shades are available, but it is my impression that she really tries to match colors to scents. But maybe this has changed since she's gotten busier. I have sucessfully requested certain colors before, though I think Victoria might do that too if you ask. Haley's liquifies and throws beautifully in the two-wick apothecaries. You can't go wrong. Either way, have fun and good luck!
  4. Good Morning, everyone! I've been sucking down coffee, prepping myself for the week ahead and plotting what all to burn and melt. So far I am burning CBV Beautiful. I think I might finish the rest of CBV scent shot Iris and Fern a little later today. It's not been terribly cold here in the Denver area, but I'm shivering just hearing about all the deep freeze plunges in temp elsewhere. I saw on the news this morning footage of a car completely encased in ice back east. They're going to need a blow torch to get it out!
  5. LLVV, I am so sorry for your family's great loss, and I want to offer my sympathy during this difficult time. After all you have been through in recent months I sure hope you are comforted and can draw great strength from all the wonderful memories of your father and times shared together. God Bless! I had AMS Winter Garden going earlier today in my melter but my husband had to come upstairs and shut it off. It was running him out of the house, which is surprising considering how he doesn't mind strong fragrances. I will melt it again, but for shorter periods of time until the scent mellows. It smells clean and soapy to me. Tonight I have YC Clean Cotton going in that new Quick Scent melt. I hadn't realized that everyone was already talking about these and started a new thread under the candle section. I really like it so far!
  6. Hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend! I haven't quite gotten anything lit up or put into my melter yet today, but recent scents have included CBV Sun & Sand (a really good dupe!), Colonial Candle Citrus Plum, and YC Sugarcane and Bamboo. I finally moved the melter I use upstairs in the main living area (a large open space with a vaulted ceiling) over to a new outlet because I've been having trouble with the scent wafting away in drafts over to certain windows and doorways. It frustrates me to no end when the scent doesn't just fill up the area, but rather seems to travel in a narrow river of air. This way, at least the melter will be further away from the end of the house where the drafts go and I can smell the "scent river". At the next opportunity on a warm day, I will be armed and dangerous with my caulking gun!
  7. Hopefully all of you suffering from various misfortunes and such are on the road to recovery and feeling much better! Recent melts have included Haley's Precious Kitty, B&BW Cranberry Woods, YC Sugarcane & Vanilla, and CBV Raisin Rum. Tonight I am burning CBV Coppertone, which I must say smells identical to the famous suntan lotion. I am instantly transported to the beach in one whiff!
  8. Snow, glorious snow! Finally! Yes, we finally got some measurable snow here in the Denver area, about 4 1/2 inches. It's supposed to be pretty cold here this week, so I bet it will stick around for a while. The only time I really hate getting snow is in April. For some reason, March and early April often are so warm and sunny that we come down with spring fever. But then sudden freezing temps and snowfalls in late April and early May destroy our fruit tree blossoms and flowers. So far this morning I've been burning Colonial Candle Pink Champagne, in honor of New Year's Eve. It's not a super strong one, but it is refreshing and you can smell the citrus and carbonation. It's one of those heavy, oval glass jars, double wicked. I peeled the label off so I can enjoy watching the pretty, clear pink melt pool below the two flames. The way the glass is shaped really reflects the light beautifully. I sure hope everyone enjoys safe, happy New Year festivities! Our plans are for a quiet evening. One of these years I am going to host a New Year's Eve party, but tonight I just want to take it easy and watch the countdowns or a movie on television. There's not much point in going to bed before midnight, because fireworks always get shot off all over the neighborhood and wake us up if we dare even try to sleep. It's going to be so cold tonight that hopefully they won't carry on for hours and hours like last 4th of July.
  9. That does happen to me occasionally, especially because I am always trying out new scents, and some of them inevitably end up reminding me of other smells. There was one scent from Can-Do like Oklahoma Breeze or Country Breeze that just screamed "HOUSEHOLD CLEANER" to me, but not because it was an awful scent. In fact, it was a very nice scent, but it kept reminding me of a recently used disinfectant cleaner more than it did of any sort of floral breeze. It always just amazes me how a particular scent can unexpectedly lead me to recall a certain mood or setting, no matter how long ago I had the experience. When I was a child my mother bought some bath gelee from a Luzier consultant friend of hers, and she would let me use some in my bath on special occasions, or when I begged her enough. I searched for that scent for many years in candles, lotions, practically anything with a scent, until somehow I remembered what I thought might be the name of the company and searched on the internet. Taking a chance, I ordered what looked to be the exact product, but with modern packaging. Bingo! Score! It's an herbal, rainforest type scent that instantly transports me back to childhood innocence, and I will always keep stocked up on it from now on. The interesting thing about the scent is it doesn't smell like anything much until it gets added to water. I would buy a case of tarts if they came in that particular scent!
  10. Yikes, Susan! I can imagine how experiencing that sort of aftershock or quake would be unforgettable! We have only small tremors sensed by seismographs here in Colorado along the Front Range, nothing to write home about. But I did live in LA county for a couple years. The only earthquake I was in, a rather small one, I managed to sleep straight through. Wishing all of you in snowy areas safety on icy roads as snowstorms just keep on coming! We are finally supposed to get our first, significant snow of the fall/winter season tonight, and since I don't really have to go anywhere I am sort of excited. It always puts me in the mood to light a candle when it is storming out! So far this morning I have been melting YC Sparkling Snow, and recently burning Colonial Pink Champagne. Not sure what I will melt next, but I'm sort of getting tired of Christmas scents. Have a great day, everyone!
  11. Merry Christmas! Hope everyone is having as lovely a morning with their families as they dreamed of. Our kids actually let my husband and me sleep in til 8:00 am this morning! It must have taken very great amounts of self control, judging from the way they eventually tore into their presents. I finally got to open up my CBV order that had been under the tree, and I love everything in there. Let's see... there was a candle sampler set of Lemon Pound Cake, Jelly Doughnut, Cheesecake, Fig Lychee, Berries and Cream, and Marshmallow Campfire. I also got a large jar of Coppertone (perfect for later this summer) and a large, 32 oz. kettle jar of Bathtime with Pooh. The antique-looking kettle has a wine and cheese motif on it that beautifully matches the rest of my decor in the kitchen and dining room. Scent shots included Asian Garden (a freebie), Line Dried Laundry-- at least that's what I think it was called, Elvis, and Iris and Fern. What a great present, even though it wasn't much of a surprise because I chose the scents. Did any of the rest of you get wax for Christmas? Sure hope so! Again, have a Merry Christmas and enjoy this special day!
  12. Hi everyone! Been gone a few days visiting relatives out of state. It's so good to be home and back to my wax stash. My mother-in-law can't tolerate home fragrance or candles, so I felt like I was in no man's land! I've been burning YC Sparkling Snow, melting the rest of YC Holiday Garland, and most recently YC Holiday Bayberry. I braved the local mall this morning and walked away with a candle from BBW for myself, called Eucalyptus Mint. It smelled like it would be wonderful for the post-Holiday months because it smelled fresh and crisp. I keep telling myself I am going to swear off those tricky wick BBW/Slatkin candles, but the fragrances are so unique and pretty!
  13. Thanks, Gail, but wouldn't you know it, the snowstorm completely fizzled out-- absolutely nada! Nothing. The weather forecasters said that the storm, which had looked very promising, hit dry air and weakened. Right now, there's no potential snow or precipitation in sight, so I don't know what to think! This year the mountains are getting heavy snow, which is where our drinking water comes from, so I guess I better not complain. Everyone here is being warned to water all our trees and bushes, which I suppose I better go do before I forget. LLVV, I'm sure hoping for the best for your dad and family. So glad to hear some better news! Melting the rest of Can-Do's Chocolate Gravey this afternoon.
  14. That stench sounds awful, Trep! Thank goodness it didn't happen in the summer heat thought. This morning I wasn't in the mood for a candle, so I just scooped some wax out of my BBW Moonlight Path candle into my electric melter. I've been enjoying the scent all day, but now it has pretty much faded. I think I might empty it out and start melting YC Bayberry, an all-time Christmas favorite of mine. We are finally supposed to get a little accumulating snow along Colorado's Front Range this evening. I'm so excited! The last significant precipitation we had in the Denver area was way back in July, so I'm hearing about all these other snowstorms around the nation and feeling a bit jealous. Yesterday was so sunny and warm that everyone was driving around with their windows rolled down and people were walking around in short sleeves, no jackets.
  15. Oh wow! I didn't know that Macy's carries Lush products. We have a Lush store here in the Denver area, but it is way over in downtown Boulder, which would be a complicated, long drive from here. I wonder if all the Macy's stores carry the line? So far this morning I have been melting the rest of my CCCC Peppermint Bark tart from last night. For some reason, I was having some wicked cravings for peppermint chocolate candy and didn't have any on hand, so the next best option was eating a few M&Ms and putting on that scent. Aria, enjoy your new "do", and I'm glad to hear you are feeling better!
  16. You definitely sound like our kind of gal-- Welcome! Have tons of fun!
  17. So far this evening it's been AMS Pine and YC Mistletoe. It's smelling pretty festive around here, even if it has been unseasonably warm and dry here in the Denver area. I'm so wishing for a white Christmas! Yikes, Gail, I sure hope you have a safe trip to pick up your DH and that you don't get too sleepy.
  18. I suppose I'll start up one of my YC Christmas tarts after church, but so far this morning I have been burning AMS Kickin' Cocoa. It smells like cocoa with a touch of cinnamon to me. I woke up at the crack of dawn this morning, not sure why. Now I'm already feeling a nap coming on this afternoon!
  19. Hope everyone is having a great post-Thanksgiving weekend and kick-off to the Holiday season! I just woke up (how fun to sleep in!) and put in a YC Winter Wonderland tart to start off. I thought that was a pretty appropriate scent because I'm "wondering" what to get everyone for Christmas! No last minute shopping for me this year-- been there and miserably done that. We finished getting 0ur Christmas lights put up outside, and I suppose I will start putting away all the fall decorations this afternoon.
  20. Hello everyone, I've been melting YC Cranberry Chutney this afternoon, only I could hardly smell it-- strange! The tart wasn't old or anything.
  21. Glad you joined us and got back into the fun of scented wax! You've definitely found some like-minded folks here who are all also quick to sniff out a good sale and spread the word. Have fun, and welcome!
  22. I'm procrastinating a bit before starting cleaning up my house for Thanksgiving festivities ahead. It's so much more fun to browse through all the posts! So far this morning I have been burning Haley's Pecan Pie and melting Can-Do Warm & Cozy. Smells good in here even if everything isn't all cleaned up yet!
  23. Good morning, everyone! I have a mini jar of YC Autumn Wreath melting on my electric combo warmer. Not sure why, but I always seem to have trouble with the wicks on these small versions of the classic Yankee jars. I think the little jars are just cute as can be, but for their regular price of around $9 you would think they would burn better! Has anyone else noticed a similar problem with these? It's interesting to hear that others struggle with their kitties not covering up in their box too. Our tabby was an adult when we got him from a shelter, and we are quite sure he had been abused in some way or another. He never learned to play or do normal cat things, and to this day if he starts to play with us or bats a string around he looks up at us with anxiety, like he's worried he's doing something wrong. I figured the box problem could be explained by similar reasons, but maybe he would have always done that anyway.
  24. Saluting all you US Veterans out there-- thank you for your service and sacrifices! I'm melting CCCC Fresh Baked Bread right now. Gail, I hope you enjoy your visit with your DD! Joan, sorry your tummy has been feeling so yucky. I hope all of our friends in candleland (and their pets) are staying well and/or getting well! There always seems to be so many icky bugs going around this time of year.
