  1. Just sliced a 2 oz Candle's by Victoria tart in half, and love how I can melt the same fragrance in two adjoining rooms. It is Apple Jack N Peel. I LOVE this scent ! I have heard that this is a very popular scent. Any Apple Jack N Peel fans here ?
  2. Cyn, I think your career choice is FABULOUS ! I have a secret for you ( and I guess the entire worldwide web, lol). When I was a young girl, I wanted to become a neurosurgeon. I knew I was interested in medicine and became especially interested in surgery after learning dissection in 10th grade biology. I was the best in my class at dissection. My teacher called the entire class over to see my work, commenting, "Now this is how it is done." I don't know where I veered off the path, but I believe I chose the wrong university. My college did not have a strong advisory dept, nor did it have a pre-med program. I got my BA in Psychology and then went for a master's degree at the same school in Health Administration. I never finished my master's program because my husband got a job in the Carolinas and we moved out of NY. Besides, at that point I had already realized that I did not like health administration ( no throwing tomatoes from any health administrators now ! lol). So that's my story. Always wanted to be a doctor. Oh well...maybe in my next lifetime. My brain is not what is used to be. I haven't worked in 14 years, which is the age of my oldest child. If I could do it over again, I would have been a part-time stay at home Mom while continuuing to work in health care. The lack of outside stimulation these years has sapped my mental and physical energy. The best advice I ever got, which I didn't follow, was from a cousin. When I had my first child, she told me to NOT stop working . In fact, she even offered to have her housekeeper watch my baby during the day so I could return to work. I didn't want to impose on her, so instead hatched a plan for my mother to watch my baby. Unfortunately, my mother was living in NJ and I was on Long Island in NY. I convinced my husband to start applying for jobs in NJ so we could move near my mother. That was when he hooked up with a company who offered him a position in NC. The rest is history....We moved to NC where we could afford to survive on just his income ( never possible in NY !), and I have not worked since. I admire what you do and what you have acocmplished to make it in the field ! In fact, I am jealous ! ;)
  3. Brrrrrrrr Its cold outside in Florida Melting carmel nut cluster from carol. Have a wonderful day.
  4. Good Morning to all. It is another very cold morning here but they are promising a nice warm-up as the day and week progress. I put on the last of my Cranberry Wood tart squares from Warm Impressions this morning. I am going to be gone all day and my husband really likes this one so he can enjoy it. Hope you all have a great day and I'll check in later.
  5. Cynthia, I apologize for writing something that made you upset. I actually do love doctors, too, and no, I am not sucking up. lol I developed such strong friendships with nurses back in the "old days" when I used to work. I remember how fatigued and stressed they always seemed to be, and they always felt uplifted when I told them that their hard work didn't go unnoticed and the hospital couldn't function without them. Please know that my comment was made out of respect for the nursing profession and not out of dislike for physicians. Do you have a specialty ?
  6. Hey debra99. My YC Christmas Cookie candle is the one with the glitter & gel. There's not much scent to it (unless I'm sitting right by it) but it is so pretty.
  7. Hi - Just wanted to add to anyone interested in checking out Angie's - I ordered from her for the first time in November and was very, very pleased. And I've been spoiled by Crosscreek and PI! Good strong throws, a nice variety of scents and products, and great customer service. The TAT was a bit longer than normal but she was swamped by holiday orders and was great about keeping in touch about it. Hopefully her sale won't end before I get a chance to order again!
  8. Well, it's time for my evening selection--guess I'll go with Brown Bag's cucumber/cantaloupe and maybe it will make me think of summer instead of this winter blast we are having. Have a great evening everyone.
  9. Melissa, I was a bad girl. My first thought was of the drug LSD. lol It must be freezing in Chicago today?
  10. Oh boy, I am going to have to check out Angie's now...those grubby melts sound very tempting. Today I am melting Crosscreek's Sugared Spruce in the kitchen and Nene's Mistletoe Kiss in the living room. My house smells terrific ! Edited to add that it is 11 degrees ,with the wind chill, here in Charlotte, NC. This is unusually chilly !
  11. I'm burning YC Christmas Cookie. I don't usually buy YC candles but this one was half price and it is the Farmers Market type. Once the middle burns down (and only the decorative gel remains at the sides) I can insert a votive. I like to see the flame through the gel.
  12. Melissa, you're really smokin' with those tarts you have coming ~ I think Candlefind should have you do some of their official reviews ! I know I'm looking forward to hearing how you like all of your new goodies. What is LSD in Chicago? I know it must stand for a big city but I'm drawing a big blank. Think I need more coffee, lol. Pam (Boogie)
  13. Hi Cat--we live in Bolivar--how far is that from you? I hear Butler mentioned on the news out of Springfield. Guess I need to get out the map and see. Glad to meet you. Nancy
  14. Good Morning everyone--it's a cold (10 degrees) one here today. I put on YC's Sweet Strawberry this morning--felt like thinking of strawberry fields rather than the cold ground we have right now. Hope you all have a wonderful day.
  15. Gina, I wish you the best of luck with Law School. You mention living in CT...My husband is from Ridgefield, CT. and most of his family still live there. In fact, his brother owns the Village Tax Shop in Ridgefield, and is an attorney/accountant. Where in CT do you live ? It must be exciting to plan a Disney World Vacation. We were there with the kids a couple of years ago and it is spectacular. You must check out Pleasure Island, which is a terrific night spot for couples. My husband and I were lucky to have my parents along for the trip, and they watched the kids while we went to Pleasure Island at night. Pam (Boogie)
  16. Hi! My name is Nancy and I live in SW Missouri. I am married and have one son. I am 56 and a total candle fanatic. I got started about 2 yrs ago with candles and have been into melts for over a year now. I get more for my money with them in my opinion. I am really enjoying reading the different tips, opinions and ideas you have all been posting. I have been looking up lots of the companies you mention that I hadn't heard of. I hope as time goes by we can all be candle friends and neighbors.
  17. Good Afternoon everyone--hope the first day of the new year was pleasant for all of you. It was sunny here all day but cold and very windy. I have Toasted Hazelnut from Beanpod melting as I write. I love their soybeads. This is my favorite hazelnut scent. Have a great evening.
  18. Good Morning on this first day of 2008. I'm trying another brand new Yankee tart this morning called Berry Jam--it hasn't fully melted yet so don't know how it will be--will update later. Hope you all have a great day. Update--this one didn't have any throw at all so dumped it and replaced with YC Cranberry Chutney--nice winter scent.
  19. It's evening now and I have Country Chunkies Lemon Crumb Cake going--wonderful smell--it's making me hungry. Have a great evening everyone.
  20. Wish I had thought ahead and bought myself a strawberry champagne tart...great ideas, guys. ;) Today is CHC's Holiday Wassail in the kitchen and B&BW's firewood oil in the living room. I plan to pop in a mistletoe tart in the liv room after dinner.
  21. I'm doing a brand new scent from YC called Midnight Jasmine--thought that might ring in the new year. A happy healthy 2008 to all you candle gals out there!!
  22. This afternoon and evening it's Warm Impressions Cranberry Wood--lovely fragrance. Have a great evening all.
  23. Michelle, I'm going to start a new topic about kids under Off Topic. What shall we call this topic? Ungrateful little %$&^%$& ? Our pride and joys ? lol Not so funny things kids do ? Fantasies of being single again ? haha That's a good one, lol.
