What did my Honey Ham candle smell like?
I have to say, I chose Honey Ham to review for its pure unique factor. What candle company out there offers a Honey Ham scent? None that I know of. It’s also a fragrance I would never choose for everyday burning but to review…. it was perfect!! Here is the scent description I pulled from Madison Valley’s website:
“A fragrance unlike any other, Madison Valley Candle’s Honey Ham soy candle smells like you just pulled holiday dinner out of the oven. The wonderful aroma of this sweet, smoky scent is perfect for an end-of-year gift, or even to bring back delightfully delicious holiday memories all year round.”
When I first popped the lid off this candle to smell it…. WOW!! Just wow!! It smelled exactly like sweet honey ham from the honey baked ham store. We get one every year so I know the scent pretty well. I couldn’t believe it.
Here’s a funny…. my boys, 11 & 13 love to smell all the candles I review before I light them up and when they smelled this one… they were a little shocked. My youngest said – um, no! Nasty, I hate it! The other said – Who wants their house to smell like a piece of meat Mom. Yuck! Both wrinkled their noses and made faces. I laughed. – – but when my husband smelled it, he liked it and so did I. I think as adults…. we obviously appreciated the authenticity of the scent and let me tell you… this scent was pretty darn authentic. It was like putting your nose up to a freshly opened honey baked ham. You could almost taste it.
I lit my candle in a pretty large bedroom to start out and ended up leaving it there from beginning to end. The aroma once lit stayed at a medium level and wasn’t overpowering which I was happy with. The fragrance stayed true and smelled exactly like it did cold…. a sweet Honey Baked Ham. It was so different!!
Strength – on a scale from 1 to 10, I would rate this candle a 6 in a large room which is where I burned this one. In a medium or smaller room, it would be at least a 7 or 8.
How did my candle burn?
My candle burned perfect. The wicks stayed true and consistent from start to finish…. It also burned clean and even with no wasted wax. A+
Closing to my review:
Honestly, I had no idea what to expect with this fragrance and I’m happy to report… I liked it. Not sure enough to burn it all the time but for a special occasion… absolutely. This was by far one of the most unusual fragrances I’ve ever burned. I’m a bakery girl… cookies, cakes, pastries, custards etc…. and have never burned a “meat” fragrance. I mean, that doesn’t even sound appetizing as a scent does it? Well, I’m happy to report my first protein candle (chuckling) turned out pretty well and I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. I totally recommend this candle for those who like the unusual or to burn something different during the holidays. It’s listed as a holiday fragrance so I’m sure it’s seasonally listed on their website.
Would I try this candle again? Absolutely! It wasn’t bad… was actually quite pleasant and truly did smell just like a sweet Honey Baked Ham scent.
I have two more scents to review from this company so watch for more reviews to come. Will also be doing a giveaway for a Madison Valley gift basket valued at $95.00 with the next review so stay tuned.
Happy candle hunting!

I purchased two of the Madison Valley Candles from the companies web-site last month and all i can say was WOW! I decided not to but the scents you reviewed but rather Pumpkin Pie and Pure Vanilla. I loved both of them. The pumpkin Pie was perfectly balanced and super strong. The Vanilla was the big surprise. I have tried so many Vanilla candles that are not very strong. These were unbelievably strong. Best Vanilla Candle i have found.
