Since we found ourselves at home more during the start of the pandemic, we seemed to have put our candle obsession on overdrive. We deliberately sought out black owned businesses and happened upon the luxury candle brand, Gavin Luxe. They are considered “purveyors of sensuous living,” and they had us from the jump. The site was fun to explore and so easy on the eyes, several candles had jumped into our cart before we knew it. Always on the go, several travel tins seemed to be the best way to try this company out and fit into our on-the-road lifestyles. One of the ones we tried, the Vibe candle, was a limited edition that is normally included only in their Luxe Box of the Month. Since they were offering this to all now, we decided to snap a couple up to give it a whirl.

Packaging/Presentation

The travel tins from Gavin Luxe are so adorable! They are gold, as opposed to the more common silver travel tin containers. The candle was small (4 ounces) with a well-fitting screw-on lid. The artwork on the lid was ah-mazing! It made the travel tin candle feel like a keepsake, that’s for sure. The company and scent names were clearly displayed on the lid – all in elegant fashion.

The wax was white and there was a well-centered, single wick inside. Overall a very elegant feel to this little Vibe candle.

Authenticity

The cold sniff on this candle was fresh and fruity with a bit of of a citrus-y bite. Looking at the scent description:

Gavin Luxe

Once this Vibe candle was lit, the beauty of the scent came out full force. It was wonderful! It smelled like a fruit cocktail, but with a creaminess to keep it from being too sweet. The citrus notes kept this one alive and refreshing. It was just so good!

Scent Strength & Scent Throw

As this was a small travel tin candle, we kept that in mind while testing. In a small bathroom, this candle was fantastic. The scent itself is moderately strong and the throw really good for the size. It filled a small bathroom easily with scent. If moving out to a larger space, the scent remained true but did get lost in a wider space. For sure we would use a couple of these candles in an open floor plan area.

Burn Performance

The candle burned without any problems at all. It did take a while to get a full wax melt pool and we preferred to use an Illuma-Lid on top while waiting for it to pool out. Since the candle is wide and flat, the wick would dance a little more than we would like before the full wax melt pool was achieved. After that, though, we had the Illuma-Lid off and the wick didn’t pose any issue. There was no black sooting and the candle burned without wasted wax on the sides.

Conclusion

Overall, we were impressed with the Vibe candle and the entire Gavin Luxe brand. The candles are luxurious and the scents are varied and fabulous. This particular candle was tropical and lush…just what we were looking for during this summer heat wave!
