Introduction to my review:

When I think of the French Quarter in New Orleans, I think of historic buildings, wrought iron balconies and lush green vines.  An area with historical significance dating as far back as 1718, the French Quarter deserves a candle fragrance that captures its history and enduring beauty… and maybe even a little mystery. Would my Colonial Candle oval jar deliver?

What does my candle look like?

This classic oval jar is double wicked with a heavy glass base and lid.  It has a simple, removable label depicting French Quarter scroll work. The green wax turns a deep emerald color when melted.

How did my candle smell?

With French Quarter, Colonial Candle invites us to:

“Step back in time and take a stroll through New Orleans’ oldest neighborhood with exotic anise seed, sweet basil, and rich cedar.”

I found this scent to have a lot of rich cedar to it, which I liked.  I wanted to be transported to a street lined with old architecture and steamy, almost dank vegetation.  The fragrance smelled earthy and woodsy, and the basil gave it a green, herbal edge.  Colonial Candle has this fragrance listed as a floral scent, but I would easily put it into the Naturals category. I found it to be more earthy than floral.

candle-flameHow did my candle burn?

My Colonial Candle burned flawlessly.  Even after extinguishing and relighting this candle a few times over the course of a week,  it burned beautifully each time with a complete melt pool and no tunneling.  I didn’t need to trim the wicks on this candle at all…talk about low maintenance.

As subjective as scent strength is, I would have liked this fragrance to pack a bit more punch.  I found that I walked right past the candle without noticing the scent.  It was a pretty enough scent and I could smell it when I made the effort, but it didn’t draw me in as much as I’d like.

Closing to my review…

With rich colors and exotic fragrance blends, Colonial Candles make exploring their product line an absolute pleasure.  I am always assured of a clean, even, burn, no matter which scented candle I try.   Their New Orleans French Quarter Thinkingcandle was a light, romantic, step back in time.

Happy candle hunting!
