Fragrance: Midnight

Scent Strength: Light

First impression of Midnight:

Midnight is from Colonial’s “Manly Indulgence” candle line and it’s a series of candles I was super excited to try. Two reasons. 1. I love, love, LOVE masculine scents so yeah, I was veritably drooling over these. 2. I love that Colonial is branching out from their regular mottled wax oval jars. These new masculine candles look sleek and sophisticated, more modern, and the wax had a smooth and creamy texture. As soon as Colonial had a sale, I purchased an abundance of fragrances to review. I couldn’t resist.

Midnight smelled like a cool and fresh cologne. I thought it smelled really good but wanted to check with my resident “masculine cologne” expert – my 15 year old son. This kid has super expensive taste so I figured he was a good one to ask. He smelled the wax and said it smelled good. Said it reminded him of axe body spray and the scent of Polo. He also proclaimed he would totally wear it. Good sign.

Here is the scent description I pulled from the label for Midnight:

With notes of bergamot, musk and Vetiver.

But here is the scent description I pulled from Colonial’s website:

Even Cinderella knew to be aware of Midnight. Manly Indulgence Midnight fills the evening with notes of bergamot, musk, and vetiver. It’s as magical as a glass slipper. Wildly popular, this MI candle smells fresh, clean and musky.

Cool description, and yes, this candle does smell fresh, clean and musky. I could stick my nose in this one and inhale for days. Crossing fingers the candle will perform well.

Let’s find out!

Midnight Candle Review

I decided to stay conservative and light my Midnight candle in a small powder room and it was a perfect call. Even though this candle had a wide expanse of wax, the scent remained light. Part of the problem was the candle had a hard time reaching a full melt pool so I don’t think the wax ever really got hot enough. The aroma remained light, even in a small room… but it sure smelled good. My entire powder room smelled like a light but fresh masculine cologne. Very bright and clean.

Even though citrus wasn’t listed in the scent description, I could swear I smelled citrus in the mix. Maybe it was the bergamot. Whatever I smelled – loved it!

Strength – I would rate Midnight from Colonial a 6 out of 10 in the smallest of rooms. I wouldn’t even attempt burning this candle in anything larger if you’re after strength.

How did my Midnight candle burn?

This candle struggled to reach a full melt pool. Once it hit the halfway point, the candle burned much better. I did have to stay on top of wick trimming but that’s pretty normal with most candles.

Closing to my review:

As far as the scent goes, I loved Midnight. It smelled masculine and wonderful. What may keep me from purchasing it again was the strength. Everything else – awesome. Aesthetics was nice – this candle was a sleek black with a nice masculine label. Loved the creamy wax, and this candle was priced right. Who knows, I may try it again if I catch another great sale. If you decide to give this candle a try, just start in a small room and go from there.

I have more candles to review in this masculine line up from Colonial so stay tuned.

Happy candle hunting!
