What did my candle smell like?
I love lemongrass and I also love cilantro blends so I was really looking forward to burning this candle. I also love burning Colonial Candle’s large oval jars. They’re so heavy and solid, you literally need two hands just to hold one. Lemongrass & Cilantro was a gorgeous candle and the picture above seriously does not do this candle justice. The wax in the picture looks like a dull green… the actual color was a beautiful and bright herb green, as in, so bright, it almost glowed. The label showing a bushel of cilantro really pops against the color too. Loved the presentation!
Scent description for Lemongrass & Cilantro:
“A refreshing scent of lemon, mixed with armoise and sparkling bergamot.”
I don’t know about you but that description totally confused me since I don’t see “lemongrass” or “cilantro” anywhere in the description, considering that’s the name of this scent. What the heck? I also had no idea what “armoise” was either so I did an internet search but nothing really came up that made sense so, who knows?
Smelling the wax cold, it did smell citrusy with a bit of a masculine vibe to it…. like cologne or men’s aftershave. All in all, I liked it… it smelled very fresh, it just didn‘t smell like lemongrass or cilantro.
Colonial large jars are generally pretty strong so I decided to light this candle in my master bedroom. It’s large so I can get a good sense of strength. Once lit, it didn’t take very long to start noticing the scent… maybe 10 minutes in, the aroma started traveling around the candle. After a good hour, my bedroom was filled with a masculine scent with hints of citrus. I’m totally holding firm this fragrance smelled like men’s cologne. I didn’t really smell bergomot and I have no clue what armoise is so who knows… maybe that’s the masculine vibe I was getting. Regardless – I liked it. A lot actually… it just wasn’t what I was expecting.
Strength – on a scale of 1 to 10, I would rate this candle an 8. It gave a nice and strong medium scent throw. Loved the strength!
My candle burned great. No issues. Clean and even burn with no soot. A+
Closing to my review:
This was an interesting fragrance. I loved it but it sure wasn’t what I was expecting, Lemongrass and Cilantro are each pretty unique and you know each one when you smell it…. neither was present in this fragrance. Not a lick. Instead, this scent turned out to be a nice and fresh masculine scent. I loved it and will definitely purchase it again but if you were thinking of trying this candle because you love lemongrass or cilantro… you might be disappointed.
Makes me wonder why they named it what they did?
At any rate, I still loved it and will buy it again. The scent itself was quite fresh and livened up my bedroom quite nicely. Even my hubby liked it so it is now endorsed “husband approved.” (Big smile)
ETA… just found out Colonial is retiring this scent shortly so if you wanted to give it a try…. HURRY!! Now sure how long it will be around.
Happy candle hunting!

I would have rated this candle a 5 had the scent matched the scent name and description but I didn’t think it did. Have you tried Lemongrass & Cilantro from Colonial Candle?
