Introduction to my review:

I bought this candle based off the description and the picture on the label, it was too darn cute to pass over and I figured it would be a great candle to review. I mean, come on… A fluffy white bunny on the label, pretty pastel pink wax… CAKE! I was sold! Purchasing it on sale sweetened the deal even more.

I received this candle right after Easter so there was no time getting this review up beforehand. Sorry. Better late than never though…. I thought about saving it till next year but I couldn’t do it… I had to burn this one and fast! It reminded me of white cake and sugary jelly beans swirled inside. YUM!!

What did my Bunny Cake candle look like?

This candle is SO adorable!! This candle was their classic 22oz large jar with one wick. The wax was a lovely pastel pink and the label… cute cute cute!!!! The bunny is a big fluffy white cake as the centerpiece on a bed of green grass and jellybeans. It’s eyes and nose are jellybeans. So cute!!!!

What did my Bunny Cake candle smell like?

Let‘s start off with the scent description from Yankee‘s site:

“A delicious way to hop into spring. . . a sweet treat of sugary coconut, creamy vanilla, and bright citrus.”candle-bunny-cake

First sniff….. the wax smelled like vanilla and jelly beans with hints of a soft perfume. Very different and not what I expected.

Once lit, it took several hours to get a complete melt pool so it took awhile to really notice the scent. What I smelled was so different from the description. I wasn’t really making out any cake or coconut – at all. To me, this scent was citrus and vanilla… more citrus than anything else… and I was still smelling hints of perfume. Maybe I’m wrong but I was expecting white cake with coconut and sugar… that’s what I was hoping for anyway… that’s kind of what the picture on the label and description implies.

As with most Yankee candles, this candle was very lightly scented. On a scale of 1 to 10, I would rate this a 3. I burned this candle in a small powder room and it barely held its own in such a small room… anything bigger than a tiny box room and the scent would have been completely lost. I was disappointed with the strength of this candle.

candle-flameHow did my Bunny Cake candle burn?

This candle burned fairly well. It took about 3 full hours each time to get complete melt pools but once it did, it burned evenly. I did have to keep the wick trimmed often but that’s typical with any candle.

Closing to my review:unsure candle girl

It’s funny… I started out so excited and optimistic when beginning this review but once I began burning the candle, everything changed. I’m in a catch 22 with this one. The scent itself wasn’t bad, it was very fruity and bright… it just wasn’t what I was expecting. Had it been more of a cake scent as the name implies, I would have been all over it! But it wasn’t. The scent description just didn’t match what I smelled.

The strength of this candle disappointed me the most. I expect Yankee candles to be lightly scented but I still have hopes the scent from a large candle can at least fragrance a small room… this one couldn’t.

Who knows though… you may fair better than me with this one. If you love citrusy scents and you prefer lightly scented candles and you’re by a Yankee store… check out Bunny Cake. You may like it enough to hop away with one. (hehe)

Happy candle hunting!

  1. that’s annoying that it didn’t match the scent description. also….i do like yankee candle but sometimes i despise their packaging. like i don’t *want* a picture of a huge coconut bunny cake on my candle, even if that is the scent of the candle. sometimes the pictures on the label are just a little cheesy…and then combined with the brightly scented wax….its enough to make me put back a candle even if i really like the scent.
