Intro To My ScentLight Review

I’ve been itching to do a Yankee Candle ScentLight Review. I am constantly on the road, so I am always looking for ways to easily take my smell goods with me. While plug ins are portable, they can become messy during transport if they happen to end up in your bag the wrong way…or so I’ve heard. Yankee Candle is always coming out with something new and innovative, so I was super excited to try out their new ScentLight device.

The concept of the Yankee Candle ScentLight is very interesting. The stylish container has a small fan that works to disperse fragrance from a scent pod that fits inside. It basically acts as a battery operated diffuser. You purchase the actual ScentLight device with one fragrance pod in a starter kit. After that, you can purchase just the replacement fragrance pods (refills).

First Impressions of My ScentLight

I ordered on a whim during a sale, as I knew I wanted to do a ScentLight review. It didn’t take long for the starter kit to get to me, and I was like a kid opening a Christmas present! The unit itself is fairly stylish with a speckled pattern that would glow when turned on. It is lightweight and easy to transport, but it can feel a little cheap. Once set up and turned on, however, it did look beautiful and blended in well to the decor of several settings. I was a bit disappointed that they didn’t include starter batteries, considering the initial price of the kit. Still, they do make it clear on the website and packaging that batteries are not included.

It was easy to “assemble” my ScentLight device. In fact, there was not much to it! There was a vented lid on top of the unit that covered the fan. I had to lift that portion in order to place my fragrance pod. The pod itself was a small plastic container that was vented at the top. I chose the scent Pink Sands for my starter kit, as I already knew what that fragrance smelled like.

The pod fit nicely into the little well and then I placed the unit lid back on top. On the bottom of the unit, there is a switch to turn the unit off and on. It was a little hard to read, but flipping the switch to the left kept the unit going continuously. If I wanted the unit to cycle on and off every 5 hours, I would flip the switch all the way to the right. Easy peasy!

How Did My ScentLight Perform?

For this ScentLight review, I wanted to use this unit in various spaces. I used it in a large, open kitchen, a medium sized bedroom, a small bathroom, and in a closet. Not surprisingly, it didn’t make its presence well-known in the kitchen. I was able to catch faint whiffs of it going while it was in the bedroom, but I don’t think this is a place I would use it regularly. It did remarkably well scenting up the bathroom and the closet. I could smell the deliciousness of the Pink Sands fragrance each and every time I walked into those spaces. The fragrance definitely would have been stronger if I had a plug in going, but it was still quite noticeable.

I first kept the unit going non-stop to see how it would do. It did a great job over 3 days while I kept it going. The batteries did not die on me, which is a concern I am reading about on a lot of online reviews.

I later used the timer feature, and I actually preferred that mode. With it running continuously, the scent didn’t seem to be as noticeable after a few hours. By allowing it to cycle on and off, I thought I got more bang for my buck fragrance strength wise. It is also better for battery life overall.

Closing To My ScentLight Review

Overall, I really enjoyed using this new device for my ScentLight review. The unit is portable and effective for small spaces. It is not going to scent up large, open floor plans, but it will work wonders in hotel bathrooms or maybe an office, depending on size. I do wish they offered more variety in designs, but maybe that will come down the road. They also have a limited number of fragrances available in the refills, so that could be a problem if you like to have a lot of scent choices. I didn’t have the problem with battery life that others have mentioned, but I will see how the unit performs over the next several months. I’m just excited to be able to take this baby on the go with no cords attached!
