Introduction to my review of a Bluewick Candle in the scent White Lime:

Luxury candles. Ahhhhh. Two words that are music to my ears. As a certified scent addict, I happen to think candles are one of the basic necessities in life. But many would consider candles a luxury in and of themselves. I will agree that there are some candles that are considered super luxurious. “Cream of the crop. Top of the line. Read: Will cost you a pretty penny.” It’s these candles I’ve always wondered about. Are they really worth it? Can they possibly smell that good? Well, there’s only one way to find out the answers to those questions in my mind – burn, baby, burn!!I plan on reviewing several luxury line candles. As many as the pocketbook will allow! My first trip down this titanium-bricked road will be with Bluewick Candles – a fairly well known and reasonably priced luxury line.

The Bluewick CompanyWoman smelling a candle, Candlefind.com, the site for candle lovers is the brain-child of Art Maruyama. Mr. Maruyama got his inspiration for his first candles from none other than a backyard tangerine tree. He began experimenting with candles in his own kitchen in 1995, soon began making candles for family and friends, and well… it blew up from there. Bluewick was officially born in 1998 and features several lines that revolve around various themes. The scents are vibrant and creative. No matter what the line or what the theme, we are reminded that scents are an integral part of life. We are shown that life smells good.

Indeed it does, Mr. Maruyama. Indeed it does.

This first Bluewick review will be from the Groove Line, specifically the Groove Everyday Series. So curl up in your favorite chair, grab a glass of champagne and your bon bons, and join me in this wonderfully scented adventure…

What does it mean to find your groove?

It means to find your place. Your own rhythm… Your niche. We often talk about finding our groove when we need a break from the norm or we feel out of synch. We feel like we’ve gotten into a funk. But who says you can’t find your groove in the everyday things in life? All it takes is a little bit of effort and a change in attitude. The Groove Everyday Series is all about finding your groove every single glorious day. What makes you tick? What helps you relax and just be YOU?

At the time of this review, there were 15 fragrances in this upbeat line. Scents like Avocado, Mandarin Cocoa, Red Fig and Yuzu. Melati and Orangewood. And so many more. The candles are generously sized at 15 ounces and are said to give 100 hours of burn time. Surely you can find your groove by then! They also offer 2oz Pocket travel tins, for groove on the go. Choosing one scent to review from this line was very difficult. I decided to go with a 15oz candle scented in Whitelime, one of the newer scents.

What does my Bluewick Candle look like?

All Bluewick candles are housed in beautiful gift boxes – perfect for gift giving! The design of the gift boxes varies from series to series. The box lid for the Groove Everyday Series has alternating light and dark circles and the bottom of the box is solid black. For the Whitelime fragrance, my box lid was white with white and pale green circles. Inside the gift box sat a gorgeous white single-wicked soy wax candle in a heavy glass container. The cylindrical container had a thick glass bottom and a single circular sticker on the front. My sticker said simply “Whitelime.” The sticker was easily removable in case you only want the clear glass container on display. On the bottom of the container, there was a Bluewick identification label and the typical candle safety warning message. The candle also came with a stainless steel lid which added to the beauty of the presentation and the luxurious feel.

How did my Bluewick Candle smell?

The cold sniff on this big baby was strong! I’m telling you, you’d better prepare yourself before taking your first whiff! I detected lime. Tart, tart lime ”“ definitely in a good way. Since I couldn’t pick out any other notes on cold sniff, I was curious as to what the “white” in “Whitelime” would be. Here is the scent description from the website:

“We just can’t get enough of the refreshing result of combining fruit fragrances and earthy aromas, so we’ve done it again with enchanting Whitelime, with the familiar piquancy of white cedar and the snappy tartness of lime, plus a dash of spiffy French verbena for good measure.Fresh Limes, Candlefind.com, the site for candle lovers Absolutely delightful!”

So armed with this new knowledge, I promptly set out to burn my candle in my “testing room.” I like to burn all my testers in the same space to get a good feel of how they compare to others. I also keep the door closed to help contain the scent initially. When burning this candle, the scent was easily out from under the door and well into the next room. The scent throw was AMAZING!!! When I walked into the room – WAM! I was immediately met by the tart lime, but it had mellowed a bit with the sweet scent of cedar. The two scents played nicely with each other. The lime was definitely the most prominent, so you do have to enjoy citrus scents to enjoy this candle (and I do!!). Try as I might, I never did pick out the French verbena but that really didn’t matter. This was an amazing fragrance – simple, yet powerful. And definitely refreshing!

Candle flame, Candlefind.com, the site for candle loversHow did my Bluewick candle burn?

This candle burned evenly and formed a full wax pool in a matter of minutes. Absolutely no tunneling so no wasted wax. That’s important with any candle, but especially with luxury candles. Having said that, I must mention that these are wicks that need to be trimmed frequently. Period, point blank. If you don’t, you will see smoke. I had to babysit this candle a little more than I like, but really nothing out of the ordinary. As long as I kept that wick trimmed, I had absolutely no problems. The candle burned all the way to the bottom and was just as fragrant at the end as it was at the beginning. I hated to see the wax go!

Closing to my Bluewick review:

I am sooooo pleased with my introduction to Bluewick Candles and what fun to start with the Groove Everyday Series! This series has an array of scents to choose from, which means there should be something for just about everyone. Although a bit pricey, the prices are not astronomical… Bluewick candle review, Candlefind.com, the site for candle loversdefinitely worth the money and the occasional splurge. And you can’t go wrong if looking for the perfect gift. Bluewick does offer a limited selection of bath and body items, but not in this series yet.

Many luxury lines will give you great presentation, but leave you wanting more in the scent department. Not so with Bluewick. From the beginning to end I was truly impressed. I can’t wait to review another series from Bluewick. Stay tuned!!

Happy candle shopping!

~ Andrea
