Strawberry Black Pepper – Gold Canyon

Strawberry Black Pepper Gold Canyon ReviewStrawberry Black Pepper

By Christina Rylan

Brand: Gold Canyon

Type: Large Heritage Candle

Fragrance: Strawberry Black Pepper

Scent Strength: Medium

First impression of Strawberry Black Pepper:

Strawberry Black Pepper sounded like a scent I couldn’t pass up. I’m a fan of sweet strawberry scents but adding black pepper notes to it? I had to try it.

This fragrance is described as:

Strawberry, black pepper & musk.

Sniffing the wax, I smelled strawberry and musk the most. I didn’t smell any black pepper but hoping that comes to life once the candle is burning. We shall see!

Gold Canyon candles have been pretty potent for me so I went bold and lit this candle in my master bedroom… it’s a huge room so if this candle can fragrance the entire space, that’s a winner! Once the wicks were lit, it took a good 30 minutes before the candle reached a full melt pool and the aroma… very light, an early indication I needed to move it to a smaller room, and that’s exactly what I did. Once moved to a small bathroom… much better! The aroma… I’m sorry to say I didn’t care for it. Number one, I didn’t smell any strawberry to this fragrance, nor musk, nor black pepper. To my nose, the fragrance smelled harsh and chemically. Up close with my nose up to the candle, I strangely smelled floral intermingled with a harsh ozone vibe. There was nothing sweet or fruity about this candle. I don’t know folks… this scent was simply not my cup of tea. At all.

Strength – I would rate this candle an 8 out of 10 in a really small room. 6 in a medium. This was a very lightly scented candle for me.

How did my candle burn?

This candle burned perfect. No wick issues. Clean burning from start to finish.

Closing to my review:

It’s not often I don’t like a candle from Gold Canyon but I didn’t care for Strawberry Black Pepper at all, and I’m bummed about that. In my mind, I imagined a sweet strawberry with hints of spicy pepper in the background. That blend sounded interesting and the reason I purchased this candle to try. What I smelled was totally different from the scent name and the description. Very strange. Should you run across the candle at a Gold Canyon party, smell the wax and see what you think. Like or not like?

Happy candle hunting!
