Introduction to my review or Stormy Mountain Candle Co:

I’ve had the pleasure of trying Stormy Mountain Candle Company once before, so I looked forward Stormy Mountain Candle Co scented candle reviewto sampling their new candle collections. Doing a second review of a candle company affords us an opportunity to check consistency both of products and of customer service. I am happy to report that Stormy Mountain Candle Company has excelled in both of these areas. They are continuing to add new scents and products to their growing website. My questions and emails were answered promptly and professionally. Like my first impression of Stormy Mountain Candle Company, my second was just as favorable.

Stormy Mountain Candle Company has got some new additions to their website. They are keeping things fresh with two new soy candle collections. The Interlude Collection of jar candles have a sexy, modern silhouette along with some new fragrances like Oak & Amber, Honey Bunch and Lettuce Pleez U, that are sure to please their current customers as well as intrigue new ones.

They’ve also added a Try-me Minis Collection for those of us who have a hard time choosing just the right scent. When the descriptions all look tempting, narrowing down only a few scents to try can be challenging. With these cute little Try-me minis, we can grab a whole variety of fragrances to satisfy our noses.

What do my candles from Stormy Mountain look like?

The Interlude Collection candles that I tried were clear glass jars with tight fitting, flat-topped glass lids. Instead of a straight Stormy Mountain Candle review - Interlude Candlescylinder style jar, these had a wide sturdy bottom, a curved middle and a flared top. They looked terrific even when they weren’t lit. The wax was a natural white color in all three of the scents I tried. In keeping with the sleek appearance of this new Interlude Collection, my jars were free of any stickers around the sides and top. The scent name and Stormy Mountain Candle Co. name were discretely labeled on the bottoms. I Stormy Mountain Candles Try Me Mini Collectionloved the beauty of these jars without side labels, and silently cheered Stormy Mountain Candle Co. for choosing to let the jar shape take the spotlight.

The Try-me Mini Collection jars were cute as could be. They come in little hexagon shaped jars with metal screw-on lids.  The Stormy Mountain Candle Co. logo was on a small sticker on the lids of this collection, and the scent name was on the bottom. The wax was lightly colored to match the candle scent. Lemon Biscotti was pale yellow, and Carrot Cake was light tan.

How did my candles from Stormy Mountain Candle Co smell?

Stargazer Lily

“Capture the sweet, sensual, and addictive fragrance from this hybrid oriental lily.” Stargazer Lily scented candle review from Stormy Mountain Candle Co

When it comes to floral scents, Stargazer Lily, in general, is a favorite of mine. It’s a scent that I’ve enjoyed regularly over the years, so I knew that trying this familiar scent from Stormy Mountain Candle Co. would give me a good basis of comparison. It turns out that I liked this scent quite a bit. It is most definitely a sweet floral. It had an almost springtime freshness, but smelled entirely of the flower with no greens. This was like the blossom itself was floating in a vase of clear water. It had a light to medium throw which I found to be just right for this type of scent. I’ve got to tell you… I much prefer this lighter throwing floral over a super strong, in-your-face kind of scent. Stargazer Lily was a scent that was perfectly matched for this clean, elegant looking jar candle.

Fresh Water Cucumber

“Green melon, wild flowers & jasmine with middle notes of lily & violet” Fresh Water Cucumber scented candle review from Stormy Mountain Candle Co

Here was a scent that felt new to me. It was predominantly a melon scent, like honeydew, but the floral notes gave it just the right pop of something special that set Fresh Water Cucumber apart from other simple melon scented candles. My nose was very happy with this sniff. I could faintly pick out the violet note, but the floral part of this scent was a nice blend of delicate spring blossoms…nothing heavy… and the floral complimented the green melon beautifully.

I found myself wishing the fragrance was a bit stronger. I had to be right in front of the jar to smell all of the melon-y goodness. This jar lightly fragranced my small powder room.

Cranberry Ice

“This richly scented fragrance is absolutely bursting with the vibrant flavors and sensations of crisp tangy cranberries with a slight note of tangerines, which go together to make a mouth watering scent for you and your home.”Cranberry Ice scented candle review from Stormy Mountain Candle Co

When I first considered this scent, I expected it to be a seasonal holiday scent. After all, Cranberry Ice is a dessert traditionally served around the holidays. It is a festive, shaved icy sorbet made with cranberries and a touch of citrus, usually lemon juice. My mind instantly thought of Christmas scents.

Cranberry Ice may be served around the holidays, but let me tell you, it would be just as refreshing in the middle of summer. Like the dessert itself, this fragrance turned out to be very versatile and fresh. This candle smelled good enough to eat… suddenly craving a sorbet. Cranberry Ice was bright and crisp. It was a sweet berry scent that smelled fresh and crisp… like cold berries rolled in sugar crystals. I even thought I detected a hint of lemon which most likely was actually the tangerine peeking through. It’s a good choice all year round. The medium throw was pleasing, but could have been a bit more robust.

Lemon Biscotti

“The perfect combination of lemon and vanilla.”Lemon Biscotti scented candle review from Stormy Mountain Candles

Lemon and vanilla… a match made in heaven for us lemon fans. I really enjoyed this scent. The lemon was prominent and the vanilla had a baked note to it. This candle smelled like iced lemon cookies to me, although Lemon Biscotti sounds more exotic and rich. I didn’t smell any Anise which I’ve noted in other biscotti scents, but it’s absence only made this scent more sweet and delectable. This is one of those fragrances that instantly go into my notes as a reorder scent. Stormy Mountain Candles hit it out of the park with this tasty smelling lemon scent.

It didn’t hurt that this candle was one of the adorable little mini jars. It was like a sweet little bakery confection. What a surprising little treat.

Carrot Cake

Carrot Cake scented candle review from Stormy Mountain Candle Co“Ever walk into a diner and see their fresh baked carrot cake and know you have to have it… nuff said”

Carrot Cake is not an uncommon scent. It’s one of those universally known fragrances that you can imagine even before you actually smell it. This particular version of Carrot Cake was on the mild side. It had a pleasant, if somewhat nondescript cake smell. It was light and sweet. I was hoping for a pinch more of spice and perhaps the smell of cream cheese frosting, but I couldn’t detect it. I tried this scent in the cute little mini jar candle and the throw was light, but that is to be expected from that jar size.

The mini jars are a clever sample size. I like being able to try mini versions of Stormy Mountain Candles‘ many scents. They are a great addition to the website.

Candle flameHow did my candles burn?

The Interlude collection of candles burned slowly. The flame stayed strong and even, never faltering. For a time after first lighting these jars, there was some wax clinging to the glass edges. It was all I could do to not press the wax down but I left the candles alone without fussing with the wax in any way. Sure enough, as the candle continued to burn, the wax eventually melted into the pool on its own and all was right with the world. Patience paid off beautifully with these jars.

These candles required only minimal wick trimming in between burns. They were all around good burning candles.

Closing to my review…

The new candle collections at Stormy Mountain Candle Co. are definitely worth checking out. The scents are fresh and new. Cranberry Ice is sure to be a customer favorite. Lemon Biscotti was an unexpected treat in a mini jar, and Stargazer Lily was as pretty a scent as I had hoped for. I enjoyed the elegant looking Interlude candles. They made a beautiful statement in the center of my dining table.

Customer service was prompt and professional. If you’re on the fence about trying a soy candle company for the first time, I say “Go for it” with Stormy Mountain Candle Co.

Happy candle shopping!
