Introduction to my Irie Star aromatherapy candle review…
Back when CandleFind was just a baby, I had some help writing candle reviews from a woman named Gaila. You may have read some of her short and sweet reviews on the site. One of the companies Gaila reviewed back in the day was Irie Star, maker of all natural aromatherapy candles that are meant to bring therapuetic benefits to the emotions. Whether you need some extra relaxation or energy, this company might have the remedy that’s just right for you in the form of a candle. How cool…enjoying candles and helping ourselves all at once… what a great concept.
Unlike most candles with basic scent names like Warm Vanilla or Sweet Strawberry, each candle from Irie Star is named for a particular feeling you’re after. This company doesn’t have a huge selection of scents. In terms of carrying a variety of candles though to enhance the positive emotions we women feel, there are enough to choose from. I decided to try their scents called Celebrate and Invigorate. Celebrate is a blend of Wild Orange, Clove & Bay and Invigorate is a blend of Fir, Pine and Clary Sage.
How did my aromatherapy candles from Irie Star smell?
Celebrate:
Galia actually reviewed Celebrate before, but I thought I’d give it a try too. This scent is a blend of Wild Orange, Clove, Bay, Sweet Orange and Myrrh. The Irie Star web site says Celebrate is a fun, festive aroma! little sweet, and a little spicey.
I can barely smell the orange in this scent. The clove is VERY dominant. This is the first candle I’ve ever burned with Bay and Myrhh and I’m not really sure what they’re supposed to smell like, so I couldn’t pick them out. Celebrate is definitely a scent for the spice fans out there. If you love the smell of clove, I think you’ll really enjoy this zesty scent…it just might make you feel like celebrating!
The strength of my Celebrate scented tin is pretty good considering it’s an aromatherapy candle. In terms of a weak, medium or strong scent throw, I would say it’s about a medium. I also have a pillar in this fragrance and the strength of that is much weaker, so if you want a nice throw, definitely go with the tin.
Invigorate:
According to Irie Star’s web site, this is a very complex blend. The ingredients are canadian fir, bergamot, clary sage, cedarwood, sweet orange, palmarosa, balsam peru and vetiver. Woah!…That’s a lot! I’m a little confused on this one because my actual tin describes this scent as Fir, Pine and Clary Sage. I guess there just isn’t enough room on the label to list all of the components in this fragrance.
The label on my candle describes this scent as refreshing and vitalizing. The clean, sweet, woodsy scent is perfect to cheer you.” I can definitely smell the fir and pine…they really give this scent it’s woodsy, fresh feel. I agree with Irie Star that Invigorate has a clean feel to it…it almost smells soapy to me. Since there are so many elements to Invigorate it’s really hard for my nose to pick out each ingredient. Basically if you like pine-type scents and enjoy clean, soapy smells, you’d probably enjoy it and might feel invigorated by breathing in this fragrance. I really didn’t care for it so this candle wasn’t therapeutic for me, but that’s just because of my personal taste… I’ve never been crazy over pine scents.
The scent strength of this candle is very light. My Invigorate tin is their smaller 4 oz. size so I’m not really sure if the weak scent throw is from the size of the tin or from the scent itself. I have the feeling Invigorate is meant to be light because the Irie Star web site says their aromatherapy candles “give wonderful, gentle, effective scent throw so that you get the best benefit from the essential oils.” They’re the experts on aromatherapy, not me, so I trust they know what they’re doing. I spoke to the owner of Irie Star, Julie, last year and she told me their candles are not like all the highly scented candles we normally review on CandleFind. Their candles are meant to be therapeutic.
How did my aromatherapy candles burn?
My candles burned very clean… no noticeable soot at all.
Overall opinion of my Aromatherapy candles & Irie Star…
Irie Star seems to be a nice option if you’re looking to experience the benefits of aromatherapy candles. I didn’t really feel any therapeutic effects from my two candles, but I think that’s only because the scents aren’t what I normally like to burn. I don’t know why I chose them, I guess I wanted to spread my wings a little. Turns out I guess I should stick to my favorites…citrus and bakery. Anyway, I think if you tried a scent from Irie Star and you really enjoy it, you’d probably be more open to experiencing the aromatherapy benefits.
It’s interesting to look at the different scents available on their site and read how they can benefit us candle lovers. Besides Celebrate and Invigorate, their aromatherapy candle collection includes Love, Calm, Balance, Pure, Energy, Peace and Spice. If you’re not into candle tins, Irie Star also offers aromatherapy pillars, votives, tealights and gift sets.

Until next time…
