First Impression of Red Currant from Votivo: 

I love Votivo Candles. I don’t get a chance to burn them as often as I would like but when I do….. I’m in heaven!!

Red Currant is a holiday candle and the one I received was a limited addition so it’s only around close to the holidays… and boy is it pretty! I’m a broken record here but I don’t know whether I liked the box and packaging more or the candle itself… it was seriously a toss-up. The box was solid and heavy. The bottom half was black with a shiny silver Votivo emblem adhered to one side. The top half had a beautiful red and sliver elegant embossed retro design with a circle etched out of one side so it fit perfectly over the Votivo emblem when the lid is in place. The candle inside was beautifully wrapped in delicate black tissue paper with the Votivo emblem stamped all over the tissue. Every part of the packaging was lovely and fun to unravel which is very typical of a luxury brand.

Now it’s time to describe the scent…

The moment you take the lid off the box, the scent of red currant explodes all around you. It’s that fragrant. You really don’t even need to light this candle if you don’t want to… you could easily place it in a bathroom and it would fragrance the room all by itself unlit. It was that strong. In fact, I  put that to the test in my power room. I had this candle sitting on the counter for a few days before starting this review and as predicted… I could even smell the scent before I even walked into the room. That’s pretty impressive.

A savory blend of tart red currants and golden fruit glaze ladled over coarsely ground vanilla bean ice cream and service alongside of raspberry filled sugar cookies… the original Red Currant.

I really appreciate scent descriptions… it helps me break down a fragrance and it’s fun trying to detect all the components if I can. With this candle (in my opinion) it was solid 100% zesty red currant. I couldn’t smell anything but that. No golden fruit glaze, no vanilla or raspberry sugar cookies… I WISH!!!! All I could smell was fresh and crisp red currant and it was pretty awesome!

The strength – strong! On a scale of 1 to 10, I would rate this candle a 10 in a large room. Easy. I lit this candle in my master bedroom which is a pretty large room. It didn’t take long to start noticing the aroma and after an hour or so – total room saturation. It even traveled beyond my bedroom filling the entire upper level of my home with scent. This candle overpowered everything else I had going. LOVED!!

How did my candle burn?

My candle burned perfect. Clean and even burn from beginning to end. A+

Closing to my review: 

Red Currant from Votivo wasn’t your average holiday scent and that’s what I loved the most about it. It didn’t smell like a Christmas tree or cinnamon spice or any kind of holiday fragrance you’re probably used to burning. Nope, this is a candle you’ll want to burn when you’re ready for something vibrant and fresh flowing through your home.

Was I disappointed I didn’t detect everything mentioned in the scent description? Maybe a little but the overall aroma was still pretty spectacular. And I’m sure it was all there, I just think the red currant was so strong, it overpowered everything else.

I loved it so I definitely recommend this one to all those who love fresh and zesty scents. Red Currant did not disappoint.
