Rainbow Melts Review

A site for creative scent blends and cutesy wax melts.

Why You Should Trust Us

Candlefind has been in business since 2003 as a labor of love and dedication. Throughout the years, we have tested hundreds of candles and wax melts, standardizing our processes along the way. This assures that we test products in similar ways to give our insight to what you might expect in your home. We test every single product we review or endorse on our site. We never have (and never will) accept money, products, or gifts in exchange for a positive review. We are avid candle and wax melt lovers who have made reviewing them our business.

This post may contain affiliate links. This means that if you click through one of them and make a purchase, Candlefind may receive a small commission, at no additional cost to you. It is your ongoing support that helps make Candlefind successful, and for that we are thankful.

While this site mainly focuses on candles, we love wax melts, too. We love the variety and quickness with which we can change out scents. When the wax melts are adorable, too? That’s an added bonus! We wanted to try out Rainbow Melts as they have such creative blends and the wax melts themselves are too, too cute.

We purchased the Mystery Box for $28 at the time of this review. Rainbow Melts opens up for pre-orders which is live until they reach capacity for their stated turn-around time. While they open/close for the pre-orders, you can still buy remainder products from previous pre-orders or a Mystery Box from their customs orders. Our Mystery Box was purchased just before the holidays, so these were mostly holiday themed scents that we received. This sampler was amazing and full to the brim with wax melts! Here is a roundup of what we received:

Candlefind uses a specific process to try to test all candles and wax melts on as even a playing field as possible. For wax melts, we use a tealight melter, hotplate melter, and a bulb melter to test each fragrance when possible. We also use approximately the same amount for each test. In this case, we used our crinkle cutter to cut the melts into fairly even pieces, and we used a small kitchen scale to make it as close as possible. Here are our thoughts on each wax melt tested, but if you’re in a hurry scroll down to the bottom for our overall thoughts!

Seaside Nights

This round wax melt came in a small tin pan, complete with decorative sprinkles on top. Rainbow Melts includes their pour dates on the label, and this pour date was 10/15/24. The wax melt itself was huge and individually packaged in a cello bag. The fragrance was absolutely lovely on cold sniff – very ozony but not perfumey.

The scent description reads: Roasted Marshmallow + Sea Salt + Ginger Blossom + Driftwood + Vanilla (Beach Nights BBW type).
Rainbow Melts Seaside Nights Wax Melt

This wax melt when warmed was just divine! It was romantic and soothing, a little sexy. This did have the fresh water ozone notes but was mellowed a lot with the warm vanilla notes. A stunning combination of fragrances!

This wax melt performed well in all 3 melters, with the tea light melter having the strongest scent strength and throw.

Back To December

This wax melt was in a tin pan and the top was decorated. The pour date listed was 10/15/24. The cold sniff reminded me of walking on a Christmas tree farm.
The scent description reads: Zesty Citrus + Evergreen + Pine + Fir + Clove + Cinnamon.
Rainbow Melts Back to December Wax Melt
This was a great festive blend, with the citrus notes making it different than just evergreen scents. We did get plenty of the evergreen notes, though, with hints of sweet cinnamon. It was lovely! This one did well in all 3 melters, with the tealight melter performing the best.

Shine Bright

This cutie was shaped like a giant snowflake with a pour date listed as 10/05/24. It had the usual bling on top for some extra sparkle. The cold sniff was fresh and clean.

The scent description reads: Balsam + Cedar + Clean Cotton + Cotton Candy Clouds
Rainbow Melts Shine Bright Wax Melt

This scent was fantastic, as it was fresh and clean with all the Christmas evergreen notes blended in for good measure. Easily one of our favorites in the bunch!

This wax melt performed well in a 3 burner types, giving off a moderate scent strength and fantastic throw. It did perform best in the tealight melter.

Marshmallow Pine

The Marshmallow Pine wax melt was in a round tin pan with glitter bling on the top. It was a pretty olive green type of color. The pour date on the label was 10/17/24. The pine notes predominated on cold sniff.

The scent description reads: Sweet Vanilla Marshmallow + Fresh Pine Needles
Rainbow Melts Marshmallow Pine Wax Melt
This was a good Christmas tree type of scent, with the warm vanilla giving it a bit of sweetness. It was certainly nice but not something I would have to stockpile.
Marshmallow Pine did well in all 3 of the different types of melters, with the best performance with the tea light burner. Overall this fragrance wasn’t as strong as the others in the group.

Wicked Vanilla Woods

This wax melt was in a round tin pan and decorated with bling on top. It was a lovely pinkish color. The pour date on the label was 10/13/24. The cold sniff was mostly that familar Amber Woods fragrance with hints of sweetness.

The scent description reads: Pink Pepper + Warm Vanilla + Amber Woods (BBW)
Rainbow Melts Wicked Vanilla Woods Wax Melts
If you were a fan of Velvet Amber Woods from Bath & Body Works, you would love Wicked Vanilla Woods. It is the beauty of that woodsy fragrance blended with the softness of vanilla that makes it divine.
This was one of the stronger fragrances and it did well in all 3 of our melters with the tealight burner having the edge in scent throw.

Gingerbread Bliss

This was a gorgeous wax melt in a deeper pinkish color. It was in a square disposable tin and had decorative bling on top. The pour date on the label was 9/19/24. On cold sniff, we got a lot of the gingerbread notes.

The scent description reads: Gingerbread + Sugar Cookie Royale + Butter Brickle
Rainbow Melts Gingerbread Bliss Wax Melt
This scent was perfect for cookie lovers. The scent of gingerbread cookies predominated but it was sweetened with the Sugar Cookie Royale fragrance. Bits of the Butter Brickle could be smelled throughout the melt.
This was a great scent thrower and it did really well in all 3 of our melter types. We still give the edge to the tealight melter for scent throw.

Sugar & Spice

This was a round wax melt in a disposable tin pan with decorative bling on top. The pour date on the label was 10/15/24. This was an orangeish yellow color.

The scent description reads: Sugar Cookie Royale + Zucchini Bread + Sweet Spices + Vanilla
Rainbow Melts Sugar & Spice Wax Melt
This smelled like a heavy sugar cookie scent with the spices warming up the fragrance some. I could not pick out the zucchini bread individually, but I’m sure it contributed to the heavier “feel” of this sugar cookie scent.
This wax melt had a good scent throw and performed well in all 3 types of burners. It did have a better scent throw in our tealight melter.

Winter Embers

This wax melt was huge and in a plastic cup container with a lid. It was gray in color and the pour date on the label was 10/04/24.
The scent description reads: Winter (BBW Type) + Fire Roasted Marshmallow + Palo Santo.
Rainbow Melts Winter Embers Wax Melt
This fragrance was lovely – it was heavy on the B&BW Winter scent but had some extra sexiness due to the Palo Santo mixed in. We didn’t really get the marshmallow scent.
This wax melt performed well in all 3 types of melters. Again, the tealight melter gave it the best scent strength and throw but only by a little. This was a fairly strong scent.

Santa’s On Vacation

This wax melt was shaped like a Christmas tree, which was perfect for the scent blend. It had a pour date of 9/30/24. It was yellow and covered in bling. It smelled fantastic sniffing it cold.

The scent description reads: Vanilla Balsam + Pina Colada + Seaside Nights.
Rainbow Melts Santa's On Vacation Wax Melt
This partcular melt was festive with some Christmas tree notes with musk like notes that came from Seaside Nights. I could smell a bit of the pina colada but it seemed mostly lost in the heavier notes. The scent was absolutely gorgeous and did get us in the holiday mood. It was moderately strong and had a fairly good scent throw.
We did try this wax melt in all three melters, with our tealight burner giving us the best performance for this one. It did do well in all 3 melters, though, so any melter will suffice.

Buddy The Elf Diet

I saved Buddy as the last one to melt because he was so incredibly cute! He was shaped as a gingerbread man and had glitter bling on him. He was not in a container but was preserved in a cello bag. The pour date was 9/10/24. Buddy was yellow and oh-so-adorable! He smelled heavily on maple syrup on cold sniff.

The scent description reads: Frosted Sugar Cookies + Sweet Marshmallow + Maple Syrup.
Rainbow Melts Buddy Wax Melt

This wax melt was right up my bakery-loving alley! The fragrance was heavy and rich with plenty of maple syrup notes. The sugar cookie and marshmallow scents added to the mouthwatering goodness without weighing down the fragrance.

This melt did really well in all 3 types of melters with the tealight burner having a bit of an edge for scent throw.

Gift Bag

Even with all the wax melts in my mystery box, I was pleasantly surprised to also get this cute free gift bag! It included another wax melt, Black Velvet, along with a couple of soft peppermint candies.
The scent description for Black Velvet reads: Sweet Cream + Cassis + Fruity Notes + Woodsy Floral + Vanilla Musk + Olibanum + Patchouli (seductive)
Rainbow Melts Gift Bag

The wax melt was a pretty purple color with an intricate scroll pattern on its surface. It was made extra special with the included mica/glitter. The pour date on this melt was 10/01/24. This was a beautiful and sort of masculine fragrance. It was very sexy and warm – I really wanted to curl up in a blanket full of this goodness!

This was a smaller sized wax melt, so it was a bit challenging to make sure to fairly test it in all 3 melters. Still the small amount in each melter did a great job with a moderate scent throw. I can’t really say if one method produced better results or not.

What did we like about Rainbow Melts?

The wax melts from Rainbow Melts are a generous size and packaged so well. We love the pour dates that are listed on each label, as well as the scent notes. We happen to love bling with our melts, so the glitter and mica were nice pluses for us. We also appreciated the generous sizes of the melts and the entire mystery package.

What didn't we like about Rainbow Melts?

There is not much to not like about Rainbow Melts. This company has blended their shopping model to be one of pre-orders with ready to ship items available after close of the pre-orders. If you like to shop when you want and for specifics scents, then this model would not work well for you. We prefer to leisurely shop with a variety of scents to choose from all throughout the year. So while we don’t hate on this model, it is not our preference.

Candlefind's Recommendation

We were really impressed with the Rainbow Melts mystery box. It was filled to the brim with a variety of wax melts and we got to sample a wide range of their offerings. The melts are super cute and very well packaged. As far as performance, we found the melts moderately to super strong depending on the included scent notes.

Overall

5.0
5 flames rating

Although we are not wild and crazy about the pre-order model, Rainbow Melts has the process very well organized and they do have products to offer during the “off” times. The mystery box is an excellent value and you get a free gift bag, too! We are really loving on this company right now and will have to try the pre-order process to see how it goes.
