First impression of Onyx:

Bath & Body Works has a few new fragrances out that seem to be oriented around precious stones. I wasn’t thrilled with the entire lot but Onyx sounded interesting enough so I picked one up when I hit a sale.

Here is the scent description for Onyx:

Dark woods, smoked tonka, black pepper.

Smoked tonka, which is vanilla – YES! I was in! First impression… the wax smelled smoky for sure. My nose detected vanilla and wood smoke and I think dark woods as well, which smelled like a musk or sandalwood. The overall scent smelled very woodsy and sophisticated. I liked it and was definitely intrigued.

Time to light this candle!

I lit this candle in my master bedroom and waited for the aroma to start moving through my bedroom. I’d say it took a good half hour for that to happen. The aroma… a smoky vanilla all the way. I didn’t really smell pepper so if it was in the mix, it was very subtle. To me, this scent was a nice and pleasant smoky vanilla. Very unisex and a perfect sent for any occasion. I liked it.

Strength – I would rate this candle an 8 out of 10 in a really large room. 10 in medium to smaller rooms. That’s pretty decent and strong.

How did my candle burn?

This candle burned great. No wick issues. Clean burning from start to finish. YAY!!

Closing to my review:

I enjoyed Onyx but then I’ve always been partial to a good vanilla scent, especially the smoky and more sophisticated ones. This fragrance was definitely on the more sophisticated side and a great scent to burn for any occasion, day or night. Check it out next time you’re at a Bath & Body Works store. You may fall in love.
