First impression of Lychee Lychee:
Bluewick recently had a 60% off sale and that’s when I dove on over and purchased all their summer scents to review. Kinda hard to resist these candles when they’re that discounted. The picture above shows a white box and white candle but the candle and box I received was a sleek and gorgeous black. No label on the candle itself… just a shiny and smooth black vessel. Loved it!
Lychee Lychee sounded right up my alley… here is the scent description:
Lychee, Dragonfruit and Vanilla Lime.
Mmmm!! First impression, I’m pretty sure I smelled dragonfruit the most with hints of vanilla but it was a little hard to tell. I didn’t smell any lime but what I could smell was sweet and fruity. I also want to point out I’ve never tried lychee fruit before and don’t think any stores near me even carry it so I decided to do a little internet search on it. Here’s what I found:
Good lychees have a beautifully lush, floral perfume. Sweet but not too sweet, with an occasional hint of tartness, they pair well with flavors such as jasmine, rose (think Pierre Hermé’s Ispahan line), kaffir lime, ginger, oolong tea, and coconut. Bad lychees will cause your toes to curl and your mouth to pucker.
Interesting. Smelling the wax again, I didn’t smell any floral in this fragrance. To me, it just smelled sweet and fruity with maybe a hint of tartness.
I decided to be a little more conservative and burn this candle in a smaller room to start out. I wanted maximum scent throw and definitely achieved that in a smaller room. Once the wick was lit, it took a good 3 hours or more to reach a full melt pool and the aroma from then on out was a fruity cocktail of dragonfruit and citrus lime with teeny hints of sweet vanilla. With my nose up to the candle, the aroma smelled fresh and crisp – and fruity, but it was hard to pinpoint one specific component listed in the scent description. This is just one of those scents that smells like a fresh and sweet citrus fruit. Not zesty or harsh but sweet and creamy. It was very nice and perfect for summer.
Strength – this candle was definitely on the lighter side. In a small room, I would rate this candle a 6/7 out of 10. Anything larger and the aroma would be lost. So, this is definitely a candle better suited to a small room for maximum scent throw.
How did my candle burn?
This candle burned pretty good. It burned very slowly and did struggle reaching a full melt pool with each lighting but it wasn’t too bad. It did burn clean with no soot, I just had to trim the wick once before each lighting. Easy peasy.
Closing to my review:
Lychee Lychee is a great scent for those of you who love fresh fruity aromas. I am a huge fan so I did enjoy this candle… I just wish it would have been a tad stronger. For the size candle, it did seem on the lighter side. So, if you decide to give this scent a whirl, start out in a small room and go
from there.
I love Bluewick candles and I love them even more when I catch a sale. Watch for one. They’re worth the wait.
