Introduction to my Review of Kayloma Candle & Gifts:
Kayloma Candles may seem like an unusual name, but after sampling some of their products, it’s a name I will remember. The name is a combination of “Kay” one of their family’s dear matriarchs and “Loma” the name of a fragrant, pink, English garden type of rose.
My first impression of Kayloma Candle’s website was one of serene elegance. The overall motif is subdued and tranquil, but still waters run deep. There is plenty of information packed in this site with lots of pretty candles to gaze at. I was pleasantly surprised to find primitive country accessories and gifts offered here. For those who have an affection for punched tin tart warmers and Lang melters, take notice. There are some beauties available here…many I haven’t seen before.
Kayloma Candles offers over 460 scents for their jar candles, pillars, melts and votives, so there are oodles of choices, and something for everyone. There are several ways to look for scents and products. Scents are grouped together by theme or you can check out the master scent catalog with all of the scents and descriptions listed out alphabetically. That’s right. Scent descriptions… my favorite things to read.
This website is easy to navigate, and the photos are very professional and polished looking which added to my overall experience while choosing scents and products.
What do my Candles Look Like?
I adore the look of these candles. Each candle arrived packaged in a shiny black box with a thick paper padding around the jar. All three of my 18 ounce jars were double wicked with the wicks perfectly placed in the wax. The New Mown Hay candle was a light tan color. Ocean was a aqua blue, and 
Lemongrass Orange was a bright tangerine color. Each jar had a glossy black label with gold lettering and either a flat glass lid or a black metal apothecary style lid. Both looks were quite luxurious.
The elegance of Kaloma Candles website appearance carried through beautifully to the products and presentation. The instant I opened my package, I knew I had just found something special. Each product I unwrapped was like unveiling a piece of art…a sculpture or a painting. It was clear that these candles and melts were hand poured with great care. It sounds like I’m fawning here, but these wax beauties far surpassed my already high expectations.
Okay, so they’re gorgeous, but there’s more to scented candles than just looks alone. Even more important to me than appearance, is the scent, and of course the burn quality. So, let’s get started.
How did my candles from Kayloma smell?
New Mown Hay
Here is an interesting scent description. You’ll see why I chose it.
“Sweeter than grass, with a just hint of wood. Like a meadow at the farm when warmed by the sun. When you burn this candle you will love it.”
I like when a scent can take me some place… whisk my imagination away somewhere peaceful and relaxing, or take me for a walk down memory lane. New Mown Hay is a scent that has that ability.
As a child, I spent my summers in the grassy fields around our farmhouse in Michigan, pretending to drive my grandfather’s tractor and chewing on blades of grass. Oh, you’d never know it by the city girl I’ve become, but with this scent, I could close my eyes and go right back to that sunny field on the farm.
This scent was a winner for me. It is more than plain hay or grass… It’s as if it is enhanced with just a touch more splendor… much the same way memories are. I thoroughly enjoyed the fresh grassy fragrance, plus it was good and strong. Each time I walked into the room with this candle burning, I was met with it’s tantalizing scent and had to just stop and inhale. The melt was the same way. It kept it’s strength for a long time too.
Ocean
This scent description was all I needed, but seriously, it had me at Ocean.
“Nothing like the fresh scent of an Ocean Breeze on a warm summer night.”
It’s summertime here on the Gulf of Mexico, and the summer humidity weighs everything down and slows every movement to a crawl. The air just shimmers and we all have a permanent sheen of perspiration on our skin. Every year around this time, I start to feel the need for ocean water scents. To me, an ocean scent is more than a pleasant diversion, it’s a necessity that gets me through the hottest part of a Florida summer.
Each year, it seems, there are a few weeks when I convince myself that our air conditioner has stopped working properly, and I pester my husband 
endlessly asking if he’s absolutely sure that the darn thing is even turned on. An ocean scent has a way of making t he days at least seem cooler and breezier even when it’s 90+ degrees outside.
So I clung to this ocean scent the way Tom Hanks clung to his volleyball, Wilson, in that movie, Castaway. The scent itself was clean and wonderfully fresh… a salty sea spray… a breeze coming off the water… and a hint of sweet tropical flowers. Toes in the sand and a drink in my hand… this fragrance smelled like a vacation.
As much as I liked this scent, it was very similar to other Ocean scents I’ve smelled. There must be a limit to the ways an Ocean scent can be interpreted. I have found them all to be basically the same. Now, maybe my nose has become accustomed to this particular scent type. Ha… I am just now realizing the full extent of my ocean scent obsession. I do have this type of scent somewhere in my home pretty much all summer long, so maybe that explains why I find them all much the same.
The Ocean scented melts had a medium scent strength for me. The candle threw a bit lighter. I could smell the wonderfully cool and soothing scent, but I wanted it to be stronger. I hoped this scent would fill my whole house the way the other scents I tried did, but it didn’t seem to have quite enough “Bam!”. It did, however, nicely scent my bathroom and then my larger bedroom, but not both rooms together.
Lemongrass & Orange
“A fresh clean combination of lemon grass and orange. This is a strong scent for any room. One of our biggest sellers.”
Biggest seller? I’m in.
I can surely see why this scent is one of Kayloma Candle’s top sellers. It packs a punch of fragrance that freshened even my largest area. The double wicked candle was just as strong as the melts. It gave off a huge, happy citrusy fresh scent that filled every corner of my open living and dining area.
Orange scents can be tricky. It’s hard for me to find an orange scent that I like. Often they smell bitter to my 
nose. With this scent from Kayloma Candles, I smelled more orange than lemongrass and I absolutely enjoyed it. It smelled tart and smooth at the same time and was very appealing.
After I smelled how strong the candle throw was, I decided to use one of the melts after a meal… you know… to clear away cooking odors. This scent is not listed as an odor eliminator, but there’s no harm in trying it out that way.
I really put this fragrance to the test too. I melted one of the melts after a dinner of smoked sausage and sauteed onions. Whew! Let me tell you… it had it’s work cut out for it. Well, I am happy to report that after about fifteen minutes of having one of these melts in my tealight melter, the only thing I smelled in this house was tangy oranges and fresh lemongrass. Hooray! I just knew this scent would be up to the challenge.
The 18 ounce jar candle smelled just as strong and was a joy to burn. The wax was very pretty and the double wicks looked fabulous lit.
Satin Sheets
Check it out. There is Papaya extract in this Satin Sheets scent. Here is the description from Kayloma Candles:
“Clean fresh scent in the air, Papaya extract and aloe Vera, touch of sweetness in the air. Kayloma Blend”
Satin Sheets is not a scent that I would usually go for. I have tried several over the years and while I don’t dislike the scent type, it’s just not one that stands out to me as a gotta-have-it scent. Linda at Kayloma Candles urged me to try their Satin Sheets. She explained that this is a custom blend and is unlike other Satin Sheets scents that are out there, so with that recommendation, I was ready to give this one a go.
I am so glad I tried this. As it turns out, I couldn’t get enough of this refreshingly clear, clean scent. The idea of blending a fresh air scent with Papaya and Aloe Vera was a stroke of genius. I smelled a fruity almost, but not quite, citrusy note right away, but there’s so much more going on with this scent. It’s very full and interesting. I only have Satin Sheets in one melt, and I wish I had ordered this scent in the largest sized jar candle available.
The scent strength was good too, filling my main area handily and the scent lasted about 10 hours at full potency in a 24 watt melter. I just don’t know why it’s called Satin Sheets. To me, the name doesn’t match the scent, but now I know to choose it again.
Bonus Clean scented Heart shaped melts:
I had so much fun including a bonus scent in one of my other reviews, I decided to do it again here with these heart 
shaped melts.
Kayloma offers very giftable packages of 12 heart shaped melts. There are several scent themes to choose from and each pack includes four different scents. Linda at Kayloma sent me a 12 pack of the Clean scents to try and they were fabulous.
First off, the melts themselves stayed clean and presentable in the clear plastic box, so they would have made the perfect gift. Second, the scents were a wonderful treat of fresh laundry dupes. In this package, I sampled Downey April Fresh, Tide, Clean Cotton, and Island Fresh Gain. The three brand name dupes were dead ringers for the detergent scents. I stayed on theme and melted one each time I washed clothes. These scents were strong, true, and made my home smell wonderful.
As it turned out, the Clean Cotton scent was my favorite of the four clean scents in this package. What a great way to sample different scents of a similar type. My only qualm with these was that the scent names were not listed so I needed to guess which scent was which. Fortunately, or not, with a family of four, I am woefully over-qualified in the area of laundry detergent scents, so I easily figured out the differences between these four fresh scents.
How did my candles burn?
Kayloma Candles have everything going for them. Great scents, the perfect braided wicks, all natural vegetable wax. The wax has that beautiful crystalline look and the 18 ounce jars are all double wicked.
Did I mention that these candles are gorgeous!
These were some of the prettiest burning candles I’ve seen…and I’ve seen a lot of them. The wax was beautifully textured in the jar and was absolutely stunning while burning. After each burn, the wax would harden and look like brand new again, so each time I lit these candles I got the thrill of a fresh lighting. You candle fanatics know what I’m talking about here… There is nothing better than lighting a new candle for the first time.
The melt singles are scalloped and are a natural vegetable wax, with all the benefits I expect from a palm/soy wax. The melts are individually packaged in the same color wax as the jar candles. When cooled, the melts easily popped right out of my melter.
Closing to my Kayloma Candle & Gifts review…
I really like the elegant look of these candles and melts. Everything burned 
and melted beautifully. The scents were wonderful. Customer service was top notch. All of the things I look for in a candle company are here. The prices are slightly higher than other company’s comparably sized and scented products, but I feel as though these candles and melts are worth the extra coins. The presentation and sheer beauty of these candles while they burned set this chandler apart from the pack. This vendor will become one of my go-to choices for candles and melts. I highly recommend these candles and have added them to my editor’s picks.
