We were recently introduced to Etessam Luxury Candles and we were certainly impressed. While we did an overview of their signature candle line, we wanted to take a little closer look at their JUST AN 1LLUS10N candle. This was the floral in the lineup, and the first one that we tried.

Packaging/Presentation
All Etessam candles come ready to gift, and the JUST AN 1LLUS10N candle was no exception. The box was pure white and had a white/silver sticker label on the front that included the beautiful logo, company name, and scent name for easy identification. The candle was nestled inside and wrapped with white tissue paper. The candle vessel was white, too, all keeping ‘on theme.’
The candle jar was heavy in the hand and of obvious good quality. The wax was a coconut wax blend with no dyes and there was a single, well-placed wick in the center. There was a white label on this candle and it was easily removable, if that’s your thing. Overall, the presentation was very luxurious and set the stage for my relaxation mood.
Authenticity
I was expecting a soft floral going in and my cold sniff did not disappoint. I smelled a soft, sweet floral, but also some bright, almost zesty notes. I looked at the website scent description and found:

As I lit the candle, the complexity of the scent came to full light. The soft, sweet floral was there – almost like lilacs, but not so heady. The floral wasn’t the most prominent notes, though. There were bright, zesty notes that kept wafting in and out that made the scent very refreshing and energizing. This was a bright, citrusy scent to me, with hints of the floral notes. It made for an interesting, vibrant blend.
Scent Strength & Scent Throw
As I was new to these candles, I wanted to start it off in a mid-sized space and go from there. I lit this beauty in a medium-sized bedroom and left it to do its magic. The scent itself was fairly vibrant and what I would describe as moderately strong…enough to notice it and enjoy the different layers of the scent without it smacking you in the face or being overbearing.
The throw on this little gem was fantastic. It filled the bedroom space and I could smell it no matter where I was in the room. I could even smell it as I was walking down the hallway with the door to that bedroom open. Fantastic!
Burn Performance
The candle wick did need an initial trim before lighting. Once lit, I had no trouble maintaining my wick. The flame stayed manageable throughout the burn – no issues there. I just needed to do a simple trim in between burns. Easy, peasy.
The candle was a super slow burner. It took about 3 hours for me to get a really good, full wax melt pool. When I first lit the candle, I wasn’t expecting that, so I was afraid I was going to have some wax hang up on the sides. However, what I found with this candle was that I needed to let it burn a little longer than I would for other candles of its size. Once I did that, I was able to ‘pool out’ and have a nice, even melt pool.
While burning this candle had a super clean burn. I didn’t notice any black soot and the edges of my candle jar remained clean. There was a puff of smokiness if I blew out the candle or used a candle snuffer. I decided for this candle the best way for me to snuff it out was to use a spare candle lid which then allowed the smoke to settle.
Conclusion
The JUST AN 1LLUS10N candle was a great intro for us into the Etessam Luxury Candle brand. The candle scent was fresh and energizing, the burn was clean, and we were able to enjoy the candle for hours on end. This is not a straight up floral scented candle, so if you don’t like florals, don’t let that deter you. This candle is more about the zestiness and energizing feel with a bit of floral sweetness in the mix. It would be great in small to medium sized rooms. If you’re wanting to scent a large, open space, splurge for two. Perfect for gifting or keeping for yourself. Whichever you decide, we don’t think you can go wrong here.
