Hot Buttered Rum White Barn Candle Review

First impression of Hot Buttered Rum:

I have no idea what’s taken me so long to review Hot Buttered Rum considering it’s been a staple scent with Bath & Body Works for many years now, not to mention how delicious it smells. Seriously, this scent smells amazing (and that’s from just smelling the wax) so I can only imagine what it smells like burning.

Here is the scent description from the bottom of the candle:

An indulgent blend of buttered rum, vanilla and a hit of smooth caramel that’s perfect for a cold-winter’s night.

Oh yes!! I’ll take five please!! Smelling the wax, I detected rich and cream buttered rum that smelled like butterscotch to me. I also detected hints of caramel on a bed of creamy vanilla. Super yummy scent and I couldn’t wait to light this candle up. Which I’m going to do right now….

I lit this candle in my master bedroom so I could fully enjoy this aroma. Once the wicks were lit, it took a good 20 minutes to reach a full melt pool and from then on out…. the aroma completely changed on me. The warm and buttery butterscotch notes my nose first detected went away leaving behind a sweet and sugary aroma of – I have no clue what it was. I kind of smelled hints of butterscotch when my nose was close to the candle but barely. I didn’t really smell vanilla or caramel either. The scent (for me) fell very flat and left me wanting more. Very disappointing experience overall.

Strength – on a scale of 1 to 10, I would rate this candle a 6 in a large room. 8 in a medium room and 10 in a small. This candle definitely gave a more subtle scent throw than I’m used to with this brand.

How did my candle burn?

This candle burned great. No wick issues (thank goodness) and the candle burned clean and even from start to finish. A+

Closing to my review:

I’m pretty bummed. Hot Buttered Rum started out very promising and ended in disappointment. The only plus, the candle itself burned great. No wick issues that often happen with this brand.

Would I recommend Hot Buttered Rum? Probably not. Sorry White Barn. But I may try this candle again down the road just to see if I get the same result. You never know….
