First impression of Hocus Pocus:
It turns out I had time for one more Halloween review. I’m a little late posting this in time for this spooky holiday but fear not… this fragrance isn’t just for Halloween… it’s a bakery lover’s dream and perfect for any time of the year, especially for those who love bakery scents with a touch of warm spice.
Here is the scent description from 1803’s website:
Falling leaves and brisk nights await us when fall comes. Warm, spiced drinks and crackling fires keep us toasty during our busy days. Comforting vanilla and rum cake topped with sweet, praline strudel and crunchy gingersnaps lends to the heartwarming scents of autumn.
Mmmm!! Seriously YUM!! I don’t know what it is about bakery and soy wax but they seem to go hand in hand. It’s almost like the soy wax turns into dough and it naturally brings out all those yummy bakery flavors. Putting my nose up to the wax, I smelled vanilla, cake and gingersnaps the most and it was too die for. It smelled like a bakery spice cake, heavy on the vanilla and cake. Hoping the rum and praline strudel listed in the scent description comes to life once the candle was burning. Crossing fingers.
Time to find out!
I lit this candle in a small room for maximum scent throw where it stayed till the very end. Once the wick was lit, it took a good hour to reach a full melt pool and the aroma… a light and flakey pastry with the perfect touch of spice wafted all throughout my craft-room and it was pure YUM! The dominating aroma to this fragrance was definitely the vanilla and strudel, or even cake… take your pick. Point being… this is a fragrance you’ll want to eat with a tall glass of milk. Flakey, yummy and warm vanilla pastry meets spicy gingersnaps. Oh yes… I’ll take five please!! I really enjoyed this one. The praline and rum never did make their presence but I was okay with that… what I did smell was pretty perfect.
Strength – this candle was a little lighter than I thought (or wanted) it to be. On a scale of 1 to 10, I would rate this candle a 7 in a very small room which isn’t too bad but going larger definitely tapers down the aroma. I tried this candle in a medium size room and the aroma was too light to really enjoy. So… if you want to burn this scent in a larger room, try burning two candles at once or go with their melts. Those are always the strongest.
How did my candle burn?
This candle burned perfect. No wick issues, I just had to stay on top of wick trimming throughout the burning cycle of this candle.
Closing to my review:
I really enjoyed Hocus Pocus from 1803. It was a delectable warm and doughy bakery with the perfect touch of spice. Not too much, not too little. It was just right. Because this fragrance was on the lighter side, and that was my only regret, I think I’ll go with melts next time for a stronger scent throw. I want saturation strong with this one next time, that’s how yummy this scent was.
If you love Soy candles, definitely give 1803 Candles a try. They have a nice variety of fragrances to please just about everyone and calling all bakery lovers… their bakery scents are too die for!
Happy candle hunting!

We LOVE Hocus Pocus! I actually just burned this scent in my kitchen on Friday night and it was so powerful that I had to put it out! I could still smell the lingering fragrance in my enclosed stairway the following afternoon.
Hi Jovan,
I loved this scent too. It wasn’t very strong for me though so I may have to try a candle again after reading your post. It truly does smell beyond yummy!
