Introduction to my Pillar Review from Full Moon Candle Co.
I am really bad when it comes to my candle addiction because I’m a creature of habit. Right now, my “habit” comes in the form of apothecary jars or melts. Pillars are not candles I burn very often or go in search of and the main reason is… I have small kids. Another reason, pillars (in my experience) don’t seem to be as strong “strength wise” as scented jar candles. In all fairness, that’s not really a fair assessment. There are pros and cons to everything and a big positive pillars have hands down are looks… pillar candles can be so beautiful and you also can’t beat the ambiance.When Full Moon Candle Co approached me about a review, I of course immediately went to their website to take a look around. When I saw pillars as their main staple… I was like, “uuuuuh… (do I really want to do this?)” but… I said sure and completely forgot about doing the review… until the day my box came. Oh my GOODNESS!!!! But, before I get into that… let me tell you a little bit about the company…
Full Moon Candle Co is located in Washington State and now have a few retail stores under their belt. Having ONE retail store alone is quite an accomplishment to me let alone a few so that right there gave me a bit of info on their candles. People obviously love them. Full Moon Candles currently offers 30 fragrances in their scent menu and categorize their fragrances such as Foral, Fruit, Food or Mother Earth. Seasonal scents are also added to their scent line as well. Their candle selection are pillars in 4″, 6″ or 9 inches. They also offer votives which are potent little suckers. Votives lovers… you will LOVE these! I am a votive fiend and love to burn those in my bathrooms… these are some of the best I’ve ever tried.
Okay, time to tell you about the arrival of my package. What fun! When I opened the box, so many different scents hit my nose… Earthy, spicy, fruity, you name it! This company sent me a cornucopia of scents and when I realized the candles were pillars, I couldn’t believe it! I was like a kid on Christmas morning unraveling each pillar from its tissue wrapping and I swear, you would
have thought I was stuffing my face with 2 pounds of chocolate… the sounds coming from me sounded just like it. My husband (hearing these sounds from across the house) thought I was nuts until he saw me in front of the box devouring these candles with my nose. Then he was like… “ahhhh, you got a box of candles, FREAK!!!” – – (sighing – he will never get it.)
Back to my candles… I was SO impressed… the potency of these pillars astounded me! I ended up piling my new-found stash onto my bedroom dresser (to get them out of the kitchen) and every time I walked into my bedroom, the fragrances from my dresser engulfed the room and the candles weren’t even lit! I found myself migrating towards that area on several occasions just to sniff these different pillars all over again. I was so unbelievably impressed with the cold smell.
With that said, the scents I decided to review were, Jamaican Spice, Creme Brule, Cafe Machiato, & Lemongrass. Gotta get that lemon in there, you know me and lemon… those are my favorite scents ever!!
What does my Pillar Candles from Full Moon Look Like?
Oh my goodness are these candles gorgeous! Each pillar is designed so differently to match each scent and they’re all rich looking. I’ve put the actual picture next to each scent review so you can see what they look like… but you can see from the picture on the left what many of them look like lit. The texture and design are unique to each scent. The votives are the same by the way… they have swirls and textures unique to each fragrance so the detail put into each candle is beautiful. I just loved the entire look and packaging. Very classy and upscale.
How did my Pillar Candles from Full Moon Smell?
Jamaican Spice
This is Full Moon Candles number one selling fragrance. Here’s the scent description:
“Our #1 best seller. It’s VERY strong. Imagine butter, cream, vanilla and spices. You must like them strong to enjoy this one. A sweet, feel good scent. And to make it more irresistible, we’ve finished it off with the most unique design. Seeing is believing.”
I decided to burn the candle in my master bathroom which is a pretty big room and it was perfect there. To me, this was a very unique scent and will be very hard to describe. The pillar design is beautiful. (See side picture) This candle was very strong just sniffing it cold and made me wonder what the strength would be once lit. I could have just sat this thing unlit in my bathroom and you could smell it, I kid you not. So, I couldn’t wait to light it.It took awhile to get a full melt pool and once I did, ahhh, the scent was
wonderful and indeed stronger than the cold scent. I loved it! To me, the scent throw wasn’t super strong but you could definitely smell it loud and clear when you walked in the room. I thought it was a perfect strength and personally, anything stronger would have given me a headache. I also had it burning in a pretty good sized room so a smaller room would definitely make a difference. The fragrance itself (to me) had an”earthy” quality to it… I could smell the spices but it had an exotic element that reminded me of old world, far away type scents. I could smell the cream and vanilla but blended with whatever spices they used gave the overall scent a full bodied deep aroma. Very hard to describe until you’re smelling it. Hopefully, I didn’t confuse you too much.
For those of you that like earthy scents, I know you’ll like this one. I can see why it’s a best seller.
Creme Brulee
The candle I received looked just like the picture on the left but I’ve since learned they’ve changed the wax color of Creme Brule to a cream colored wax. Not a big deal but wanted to point that out. Here is the scent description from Full Moon’s website:
“Imagine a rich creamy Vanilla on steroids. This is the perfect mix of caramel, slight hint of chocolate and gooey praline goodness. A touch of butter and caramelized sugar for the most incredibly deep delicious Vanilla you could ever dream of. Smells sweet, sweet and brown-ey warm. Catapult yourself into every handmade candy shop you’ve ever visited. This candle is perfect with a brown sweet confection tease like when you want to smell gourmet candy … Medium Brown color.”
That’s quite the description isn’t it? Dang…
I lit this pillar in my master bath just like Jamaican Spice and this was definitely a lighter scent for me. And to my nose… it smelled like a yummy and smooth vanilla. After reading that description, my nose was practically twitching just thinking about smelling all that yummy goodness. Sniffing the air though… I couldn’t really make out the caramel, chocolate or pralines… it just smelled like a smooth and rich vanilla to me.
It was smooth and a wonderful vanilla aroma but if I’m being honest, I liked Jamaican Spice much better.
Cafe Machiato
I already knew just sniffing this pillar cold I was going to like it. Just from the cold aroma, I could detect the caramel, cinnamon and coffee. Uh, can you say YUM and cozy! I ended up bringing this candle into one of my bathrooms to display as a decorative piece until I was ready to burn it and every time I walked into the room, you could smell this candle.
Here is the scent description from Full Moon’s website:
“Caramel Cinnamon Latte! All the robust smells from your favorite coffee house. Strong coffee infused with sweet cream, cinnamon and caramel. A must have for our coffee addicts! You’ll want to drink it. Each candle is topped with dark brown cinnamon.”
I absolutely LOVED this scent. Even more than Jamaican Spice but only because
I love a good and different coffee scent. This was not an average coffee scent either because the cinnamon and caramel added a definite noticeable kick to it that made it more spicy. You could smell the coffee component but you could also smell the caramel, cream and cinnamon so the overall fragrance was just divine, very warm and cozy. It’s freezing in my neck of the woods right now and burning this pillar made me feel all warm and fuzzy and I found myself taking deep breaths of this heavenly scent every chance I could. When a fragrance can do that to me, I know it’s a winner and a repeat purchase.
The scent throw was pretty strong. I thought more so than Jamaican Spice. I had this pillar burning in my master bath (a pretty large room) and the fragrance not only filled that room but also my bedroom as well. You could smell this scent the moment you walked into my room. And what a beautiful candle to watch burning. The entire top of the pillar has cinnamon on it so as the pillar burns, you can see the cinnamon in the melt pool and it looked gorgeous! What a nice element that added.
I highly and I mean “highly” recommend this scent if you love coffee scents or even spice lovers would probably enjoy this one.
Lemongrass
I saved this one for last figuring I would flip over it since I’m such a lemon freak… I just loooove a good lemon scent! Here’s the scent description from Full Moon’s website:
“Wilma, hold on to your bloomers! NOT the traditional lemongrass you’ve been used to. We blended a fabulous tart Lemon with a fresh Grass scent, and there you have one of the most unique fresh clean scents available.
This is a most excellent fragrance. Just smelling this pillar cold, I could smell
this crisp tart lemon but also an earthy quality too which had to be the grass part. Very different and unique scent and the cold throw is amazing and very strong. You could have this pillar sitting in your bathroom as a decoration and you’d smell it as soon as you walked in the room.
I lit my pillar and would say in roughly 15 minutes, I began to pick up the fragrance in the air. Ahhhhh…. Lovely-lovely scent… very tart and fresh. You walk into the room and can’t help but take deep breathes and think of clean, fresh and uplifting. The lemon is sharp and pronounced which I liked but you could also smell the “grass” in the mix too. I don’t really care for “grass” scents but it worked in this one and didn’t bug me at all.
The scent throw was perfect. I could smell the scent as soon as I walked in my bedroom. Highly recommend this one should you order from this company.
How did My Pillar Candles from Full Moon burn?
All these pillars burned beautifully. I did have to constantly keep the wicks trimmed as suggested (or the flame got out of hand) and I even surprised myself and did the pillar maintenance of hugging the pillars after each burn so they didn’t tunnel. This also extends the life of your pillar too because no wax is wasted.
Overall opinion of my Pillars and Full Moon Candle Co:
I thoroughly enjoyed my candles from this company and I still can’t believe they were pillars! It’s not often I eat my words but words I ate. I’m hooked. Every candle I sniffed smelled wonderful and what I burned impressed the heck outta me.
These candles are beautiful and works of art. They are great for home decor, scenting your house and make wonderful gifts.
I’ll be back for more… I’m sure of it. If you love pillars, I really think you’ll be impressed as much as I was.
