  1. Good Morning, all. I'm trying another new Yankee tart this morning--Sweet Violet. I have my doubts I'll like it but after the girl at the store said if I didn't just let the tart harden and bring it in for a refund or exchange I figured I have nothing to lose. I knew you could return candles for any reason but I never thought you could return a used tart! Anyway, I'm giving it a whirl. Have a good day everyone.

It is 4 hrs later and I've dumped the Sweet Violet--in all fairness it was OK but my son said it was burning his nose so out it went. I have replaced it with YC Lily of the Valley. Nice, as always.

  2. Good Morning, all. I am burning PI's First Bloom this morning--had their Pina Colada on last night. For the first 3 hrs I just loved it but my husband didn't. Then I feel asleep on the couch and when I woke up I didn't like it either--weird, huh? Thought I'd try the First Bloom this AM and see how that goes. You all have a good day.

Well, my First Bloom didn't work out for me. It wasn't bad but just seemed to have a strange undertone that I didn't care for. I have found with soy I get that alot--it's probably just my nose as most of you seem to really like the soy. I dumped it and put in Village's gardenia which I am liking very well. It is quite strong and if you like a straight gardenia scent you will like it. I have White Barn's Buttercups and Bellflowers in the upstairs bath on a flat warmer and it is great. Found it on sale last weekend for $5. Well, this is all until I switch for evening. It is about 70 here in SW MO today--about 35 degrees above normal. Guess I better enjoy it before winter hits again. Later, Nancy

  3. Good Morning all--I decided to go with a tried and true fragrance today and that is YC's Lilac Blossoms--I put one upstairs and one down and am enjoying thinking of spring. It is very warm here this morning, too, so I will pretend it is spring. Ha!

momuvtwo--I know what you mean about Beanpod--the first few candles I had I just loved--same with the beads. Then some months later I tried them again and was very disappointed--no throw or weird smells or they just petered out quickly. I didn't use any for about a year and just recently have tried the beads again. I get wonderful results with the Toasted Hazelnut Beads and have some others I plan to try again. That cinnamon bun was disgusting, however. If I have anymore problems I am dumping them for good.

Well, you all have a great Saturday.

  4. About two hours ago I decided to try Beanpod's cinnamon bun--mistake big time--within 30 minutes my head was aching and my husband came out of the den to see what was burning. It just smelled burnt, no other scent. Out it went. I replaced it with Warm Impressions Macintoch Apple--very strong and authentic. Everyone have a good evening.

  5. Boogie and Fleur -

You're bringing back some wonderful memories - we visited the Outer Banks for our vacation last summer and loved it!!! Although I could have done without that long drive too...at least it was scenic for the most part. Next time the kids and I will fly and have the DH drive down by himself (he hates to fly). LOL

Fleur - I didn't realize you lived in CT too. Hello from Tolland County!

  6. Hi mpfand -

I don't necessarily coordinate scents to a decor, but sometimes I do coordinate candle containers. My powder room has a seashore/nautical theme too and I like to put smaller candles (or big ones from YC that have a tiny throw LOL) in there that have labels that coordinate.

When we visited the Outer Banks last summer I bought a candle in Lemonade scent from a local company called Corolla Candles. It's white so it goes with my blue & white color scheme and has a great picture of a lighthouse on the label. (Loved the candle, too, BTW.) l think Beach Walk would be perfect for your bathroom, even if you just used the tarts. :)

Last night I melted Crosscreek's Apple Torta...bakery season has arrived...tonight I think I'll melt Amish Quilt and Caramelized Bananas from Crosscreek, and Bear Claws from Brown Bag. Hopefully these will blend well together.

  7. Hi again, everyone. Just an update on my new YC Beach Walk tart. Amazingly this is much strong than I expected--a very clean sea breeze type scent. It's about the only fresh scent I have truly enjoyed. It's perfect for a bedroom or bath or anywhere really. Well, it's about noon so better get cracking. Later.

  8. Fleur, the Carolina beaches are wonderful. I have done some internet "research" on beach areas in the Carolinas and would love to live in Hilton Head, SC. It is near Savannah, which is one of the most beautiful cities in this country. It would be nice to have the best of both worlds. My husband travels all over the Carolinas for his job so we can live anywhere in NC or SC.

Another quiet stretch of beach is Kiawah Island, near Charleston. We were there several years ago(that was our last vacation) and the island is totally cut off from civilization. You have to do all of your grocery shopping and business on the mainland. The homes and golf courses there are the finest I have seen anywhere, but the island is practically overrun with aligators.lol

  9. Fleur, I was born in Brooklyn, NY and lived in the same house for the first 22 years of my life. Therefore, I have a Brooklyn accent that will never go away, lol. I went to Hofstra University in Hempstead, NY (Long Island), and lived in the dorms for 4 years. This is where I met my husband. When I graduated from Hofstra, my parents sold the house in Brooklyn and moved to central NJ. I loved NJ...We were only 30 minutes from the shore and I left a fabulous state job behind when I moved away. I lived in NJ for about 2 1/2 years until I got married in 1991. It was then that I moved back to Long Island .

I really wanted to live on the beach, and we were lucky enough to find a dive of an apartment in Atlantic Beach( with an Ocean View ! ), which is a small beach town next to Long Beach on the south shore. I have my fondest memories of living in Atlantic Beach. It was where my first child was born. We were right on the border of Nassau Cty and Queens, and all I had to do was take a bridge from Atl. Beach to get to the Queens side. I worked in Far Rockaway, Queens up until I had my child. Also worked briefly on the north shore side in Manhasset but it was a nasty commute. I will never miss the traffic in the New York City/Long Island area.

We moved to NC in 1994.

I have always said that someday I will buy a beach house in Atlantic Beach and maybe retire there. Unfortunately, the time to buy a house would have been when we were living there. We looked at a few small homes at the time and the small beachfront home we could have bought for $150,000 is now worth 6 times that ! argghhhhhhhhhhhh I am now interested in finding a beach home in the South. Just doesn't make sense for me to move back North where it is expensive, crowded, and cold. It's just a shame that most of our family and friends live in NY, NJ, and CT.

  10. Gina, THAT'S the place whose name I can never remember ! My husband and I loved the Adventurer's Club. It was the only place we spent hours in...and boy, they sure draw you in. Did they do that secret handshake when you were there ? It was a hoot to find another couple the next day who was there the night before and we all did the secret handshake in the middle of Magic Kingdom !

  11. Good Morning everyone--I have started the day out with Papaya Passion from Pure Integrity. I purchased it from recommendations on this site and am very pleased. It is a very different fruity scent--strong and good. I love it when I strike gold first thing in the morning. Later this morning I will put a new YC fragrance Beach Walk in the upstairs bath and see how that goes. It seems to be a nice scent but very light cold so we'll see. You all have a good day.

  12. I'm ready for my afternoon switch out of scents. I am trying YC's Creme Brulee--I want to like that scent but I think it is too caramelly for me. It's putting out a whale of a scent throw considering it isn't even half melted yet and I am clear upstairs from it. I always want to like these type of scents but don't. Oh well, will have to try something else as I am feeling slightly sick. I am trying to finish up some cubes of Warm Impressions Watermelon Citreon. I have it in the upstairs bath. It is very similar to the retired YC Sweet Melon which is a tad too sweet for me. I like my melon scents to have more tartness to them. Well, guess I better see what else I can put on before the whole house is permeated with the Brulee. Happy evening to all.

oops!!--didn't act in time--the whole house IS full of this smell. My son just came in and said what he thought of it and it wasn't good--said it smelled like rotten food of some kind. I stuck in a YC Granny Smith and they are strong so I should have some relief soon--also have the windows and fans going and since it is only in the mid-30's it's going to be chilly for awhile. Oh well, should have known better.

  13. Cyn, I think your career choice is FABULOUS ! I have a secret for you ( and I guess the entire worldwide web, lol). When I was a young girl, I wanted to become a neurosurgeon. I knew I was interested in medicine and became especially interested in surgery after learning dissection in 10th grade biology. I was the best in my class at dissection. My teacher called the entire class over to see my work, commenting, "Now this is how it is done."

I don't know where I veered off the path, but I believe I chose the wrong university. My college did not have a strong advisory dept, nor did it have a pre-med program. I got my BA in Psychology and then went for a master's degree at the same school in Health Administration. I never finished my master's program because my husband got a job in the Carolinas and we moved out of NY. Besides, at that point I had already realized that I did not like health administration ( no throwing tomatoes from any health administrators now ! lol).

So that's my story. Always wanted to be a doctor. Oh well...maybe in my next lifetime.

My brain is not what is used to be. I haven't worked in 14 years, which is the age of my oldest child. If I could do it over again, I would have been a part-time stay at home Mom while continuuing to work in health care. The lack of outside stimulation these years has sapped my mental and physical energy. The best advice I ever got, which I didn't follow, was from a cousin. When I had my first child, she told me to NOT stop working . In fact, she even offered to have her housekeeper watch my baby during the day so I could return to work. I didn't want to impose on her, so instead hatched a plan for my mother to watch my baby. Unfortunately, my mother was living in NJ and I was on Long Island in NY. I convinced my husband to start applying for jobs in NJ so we could move near my mother. That was when he hooked up with a company who offered him a position in NC. The rest is history....We moved to NC where we could afford to survive on just his income ( never possible in NY !), and I have not worked since.

I admire what you do and what you have acocmplished to make it in the field ! In fact, I am jealous ! ;)

  14. Good Morning to all. It is another very cold morning here but they are promising a nice warm-up as the day and week progress. I put on the last of my Cranberry Wood tart squares from Warm Impressions this morning. I am going to be gone all day and my husband really likes this one so he can enjoy it. Hope you all have a great day and I'll check in later.
