    I hope everyone is warm and safe with all the wild weather out there. It's supposed to be 70 here tomorrow but still mid-30s at night, which is just bizarre. :blink:

    Soaked the black eyes peas and chopped veggies for the hoppin' john tomorrow. I'm changing up the recipe this year in hopes that 2014 turns out a little bit better than 2013 ;)

     

    A friend of mine is in the hospital with pleurisy, so I went to keep him company for a while today, poor guy! It's sad to be so sick on a holiday :(

     

    Burning B&BW Winter and a tin candle of Illume Mulled Wine that someone gave me for Christmas. Smells spicy and festive around here!

    ...but got to take an hour out to go for a run! I haven't ran in awhile, so it felt good to try to tone up after losing the pregnancy weight!

     

    biolaeagles, that's awesome! I was running regularly in the mornings but started slacking off when my kitty got sick in the fall so I have to get back on track. My plan is to go out early New Year's morning and start the year off right [smilie=yes]

     

     

    What R ya'll doing for New Years eve...going to/hosting a party [smilie=th_blij40] ....or staying cozy warm at home? :confettistars:

     

    I am a boring old fuddy duddy who can't stay awake past 10pm :D so we usually watch movies or some of the Twilight Zone marathon and then off to bed [smilie=th_offtobed]

     

    Tonight burning B&BW Fresh Balsam in the living room and YC Jack Frost with a tiny chunk of Sparkling Vanilla added in the bedroom melter.

    debra, I'll be visiting my two brothers and SIL, and meeting my new nephew for the first time [smilie=th_dancing_smile]

     

     

    My Dad was in the hospital and my Mom was with me because she can't stay alone.

    Burned the very last of my Glade Fall Hayride candle this afternoon, and just swapped it out for B&BW Winter.

     

    When the White Barn Winter started drowning its wicks again a few days ago, I poured off the melted wax into a leftover tart cup and it made a fabulous Winter-scented tart that lasted for a couple days in my bedroom warmer. Will definitely try that again if I get any more WB/B&BW duds! [smilie=th_i-m_so_happy]

    Hi all! DH and I are moved into the new house, with lots of stuff to unpack! I haven't been burning or melting yet because both of us have been sick. Hopefully it will work out for me to get back to it soon!

    So glad to have survived this week. Work was insanely busy--so odd for this time of year. But I'm off til next Friday and heading up to Portland for the holiday. Can't wait [smilie=th_snoopy]

    Rivercat - Definitely not a nice odor! [smilie=th_stink] What does Whiskers on Kittens smell like on it's own?

     

    sweet, it's a soft musky vanilla--very kittenish :) There is something a little bit sour about it--maybe the musk--and I guess that's what was reacting badly with the marshmallow.

    I'm jealous about all of the snow you all have been getting! It's dry as a bone here in New Mexico.

     

    We need rain here in Nor Cal, too. They're saying it's the driest year ever so far in San Francisco since they started keeping track [smilie=th_thanimeomega_emoticon

    Trep, so sorry to hear about your kitty. I hope you can zero in on the problem quickly.

     

    Laurie, poor Bo and Bear! :( It's so hard to have the furbabies away even when they're being well taken care of. Hope they're both all better and home with the family soon!

     

    Burning YC Whiskers on Kittens. I wasn't a big fan last year, but giving it a second chance.

     

    YC Campfire Treat is going in the bedroom warmer.

    I had a mail crisis today! I could smell a candle order in the bank of mailboxes :blush: and the mail lady put the key in my slot so I could get it - but the mailbox door was jammed and it would not open! A couple neighbors out walking dogs tried to help...no luck! :huh: I will be waiting for the mail truck tomorrow!! :excl:

     

    Oh no, debra! The mail carrier better be there bright and early today [smilie=th_bounce]

     

     

    Rivercat - I haven't gotten a White Barn candle yet....have U noticed a difference in those and the Slatkin candles in any other scents? [smilie=th_235F35F32]

     

    Sweet, Winter is the only one I've gotten so far that has a Slatkin counterpart, and I haven't noticed a difference in the scents. The only reason I got the WB version at all is because I liked the label on last year's Slatkin so much, I didn't want to use it up too fast and this year's isn't as nice :D

     

    It just dawned on me that the Nutmeg And Spice candle that I had a heck of a time burning (and threw out) was a White Barn!! It never dawned on me until I reread your post. I had the exact same thing happen....started off great....halfway down started making tiny flames and the wax got GROSS! I'm not buying that brand anymore. Thanks for figuring that out! LOL

     

    MaggieMae, you might be onto something! I think the only other WB I have is a Cranberry Woods. The last one I had did ok, but will definitely keep an eye on the current one. [smilie=th_cha66]

    Happy Friday, all!

     

    Burning B&BW Winter this evening. It's the White Barn version and right at the halfway point, so though it has been burning very well until now, tonight the flames are struggling and the wax has turned a yucky brownish color. I didn't have this problem with the other version, so we'll see. I'm tempted to return it, but who wants to brave the mall right now if you don't have to? [smilie=grrr]

     

    On the bright side, Fresh Balsam in the bedroom is burning wonderfully and smells lovely. Good pair with Winter! [smilie=th_i-m_so_happy]

    Is Campfire Treat a strong scent melted, or is it more of a lighter one?

     

    DC, it hasn't been very strong at all for me. I tried it in my tea light warmer the first time and only smelled a bit of sweet marshmallow, but last night I had it in my 17 watt warmer and definitely got more of the toasted note with an ok-but-not-great throw. (And I'm not a fan of nose-hair singing strength, especially in my small apartment, so if I think it's light, it's pretty light :D)

     

    Tonight burning Diptyque Pomander, a mini candle I got in a holiday set ages ago. I liked the others in the set better and they are long gone, but want to use this up. B&BW Fresh Balsam is going in the bedroom.

    Well, no more melting at school...a parent called my middle school principal and said my candles were giving her child sinus infections [smilie=th_F_14WA116161617]

     

    Uh, maybe it's the time of year? :huh: I have periodic sinus issues that can be irritated by scented wax and strong perfumes, but they're certainly not the cause.

    Rivercat - Ut oh...have U heard something? :( I hope your stuffy nose is just temporary!

     

    Sweet, the 3-wick spring test scents are out and they're all priced at $22.50. I think one of the YouTubers said the new sale prices will be 2 for $25. :icon_cry: I did feel much better this morning, thank you :)

    I had a heck of a time burning my most recent B&BW candles. They each had a different type of wick and the skinny type was driving me crazy and kept getting so low that the wax was hardly melting. Argh.

     

    Hate that! I can't understand why B&BW quality is so inconsistent, even if different suppliers are making the candles. I've had to "cotton ball" a few of them lately when the wicks started drowning after the halfway point. Hope they improve the quality now that the prices are going up <_<

     

    I woke up with some congestion this morning, so decided to try my new B&BW (speaking of ;) ) Twisted Peppermint. I was afraid it would be too strong, but it turned out to be a pleasant, buttery mint.

     

    Switched over to Pumpkin Carving a little while ago.

    Unfortunately, I share walls with my neighbors, and my neighbor next door is BBQ-ing, so the smoke is filling up my house...ahh! Who BBQs in 50 degree weather, anyways? angry.gif

     

    Ugh! The husband of the family that used to live next door to me smoked occasionally and I used to be able to smell it when the heater went on. Though they were nice people, I'm glad they moved out before it got so cold this year :blink:

     

    Burning B&BW Snowday in the living room and Fresh Balsam in the bedroom, though the FB is stronger at the moment.
