If you love pumpkin scents once a chill hits the air, you can generally count on Walmart wax melts for a quick, cheap fix. The Farmhouse Pumpkin Patch wax melt is perfect for the Fall, and we really think it is one that can be enjoyed throughout the year. It’s not too pumpkin-y or spicy, so it can earn a spot at your Spring melting table, too!
Who Is Farmhouse Pumpkin Patch For?
If you love slightly spicy fragrances, this is a perfect fit for you. If you like heavily spiced scents, this current wax formulation wouldn’t cut it. Also if you like a lot of pumpkin notes, this one may mot fit the bill. It is more for those who like a little bit of pumpkin notes. This is not a bakery scented fragrance, but it is gourmand with its notes of cinnamon, pumpkin, and apple.
Using our wax melt testing process, I found this melt did very well in all three types of burners (electric, bulb, and tealight). I thought the tealight burner gave it more of an even performance and better scent throw overall. You can’t go wrong, though, no matter which type of burner you prefer to use.
What did we test?
This was a standard size package of clamshell wax melts, weighing in at 2.5 ounces per the container. The clamshell had six cube sized pieces that were easy to break apart for individual use.
The packaging had a picture of some pumpkins, apples, and presumably cinnamon spice which summed the scent up perfectly! The scent description on the packaging read Pumpkin, Sweet Apple, Spice, Brown Sugar, & Vanilla scent notes. The wax was a deeper orange color and this was a hard wax. It was super easy to break off the cubes for use.
What did we like about Farmhouse Pumpkin Patch?
This scent was fantastic, even for those non-pumpkin lovers in the group. The scent was like a warm, creamy pumpkin with bits of the sweet-spicy cinnamon notes. The sweet, juicy apple notes kept this from being just another pumpkin spice fragrance. It was wonderful! The scent was strong and carried well throughout our testing spots. It was not blow-the-doors off strong, but it was definitely one of the stronger BH&G fragrances we’ve melted before.
As far as cleanup, nothing could be easier. When using the freezer method, the used wax popped right out. Nothing to clean up afterwards! I also used the cotton ball method and pouring out the wax while warm. There was no residue to work on afterwards, which was a nice plus.
What didn't we like about Farmhouse Pumpkin Patch?
As I have become more exposed to handmade wax melts, I’ve come to prefer products that are phthalate free. There are just so many options out there, it does make sense to avoid phthalates when possible. The Better Homes & Gardens wax melts are actually produced by Rimports and, unfortunately, I am unable to identify whether their products are phthalate free. Likely not, but I would still like to know for sure. I am also not sure of what wax type is used. From the feel and look of the wax, it appears to be paraffin, but I am not sure if they combine it with other waxes.
Other than the above issue (which we have with all Better Homes & Gardens wax melts), there was really no complaint with this fragrance. All of the fragrances blended well together and it was be perfect for anytime there is a chill in the air. We also think this could be one of those year-round fragrances, as it was not too heavy, spicy, or pumpkin-y.
