First impression of Currant & Quince:
Colonial Candle has really been surprising the heck out of me lately. Their new copper candles are very cool and candles I highly recommend you experience for yourself at least once. Bonus… they’re on sale right now!! The shape of this candle is geometrical and made out of cement. You know it too as soon as you hold one in your hand. The vessel is heavy and pretty solid. The color is gray except for the very bottom of the candle which is painted a metallic copper color in two different shades. I love the look of these candles!
Now, onto the fragrance…

One of my favorite parts of reviewing is measuring the fragrance I smell against the description. Will it match? Do I smell all the elements listed? Interestingly, currant is part of the scent name but isn’t listed in the scent description, and I swear I can smell it. Currant is unmistakable. It’s sharp, fresh and very distinctive. When I put my nose into this candle, I smelled currant and rose the most, both equally presented. I was thankful for the current because I am not a fan of rose scents (too sweet and floraly) so hoping the currant in this one wins the day. We shall see!
I lit my Currant & Quince candle in my small powder room to start and that’s where it stayed till the very end. Once the wick was lit, it took minutes before the fragrance was permeating the room and it was a very interesting fragrance. If any of you have read my previous reviews, you know I’m not a fan of floral, most especially rose. It’s literally a headache inducer for me. This fragrance however was doable and I actually enjoyed it. The rose was very light. You could smell it but with everything else going on, it wasn’t “in-your-face” if you know what I mean? The fresh currant and dewy greens dominated and the overall aroma was very pretty and sophisticated. This was a true fruity/floral and a scent you’ll want to burn in a small room when you’re after something airy and fresh.
Strength for Currant & Quince – I would rate this candle a 7 out of 10 in a really small room. That’s not bad overall for this shaped candle.
How did my Currant & Quince candle burn?
This candle did struggle a bit to reach a full melt pool. I think it’s simply this style candle. It has a wide expanse of wax to melt and the one wick simply can’t do it. No worries on my end though… I used my handy dandy wick dipper to push any leftover wax back into the melt pool so nothing got wasted.
Closing to my review:
I enjoyed Currant & Quince and recommend it to floral and fruity lovers alike. This is an especially great fragrance if you’re ready to branch into floral but don’t want anything too heavy. That’s me to a T. I don’t like heavy floral scents but generally don’t mind them blended with citrus or other fruity scents. Rose blended with currant was a winner. I may have to search for that blend again someday.
Colonial’s copper cement candles are on sale right now so if you’re interested in these, don’t wait too long. Not sure how long they’ll be around.
