Intro To My Candle Review
I am always on the lookout for new-to-me companies to try. When I heard about Frerés Branchiaux Candle Co, I immediately placed it on my radar. I’m not even sure how I heard about them…they have gained a lot of media press lately. Hearing the story about three young men (the brothers are all currently school aged) starting their own business to help fund their video game collection intrigued me. When I learned they donated 10% of their profits to local homeless shelters, it inspired me. I couldn’t wait to get my hands on one of these candles! As the collection was completely new to me, I was unsure of which to try. I opted for 1790…not just because of the cool sounding name, but also because I happen to be a honeysuckle fan.
First Impressions of My Candle
I fell in love with my candle from the moment it was in my hot little hands. The amber-colored jar and vintage style label were right up my alley. I wasn’t wild about the plastic screw-on candle lid, but that was a minor distraction to me. The candle jar itself was a beauty and I loved the depiction of the young men on the label.
Once I opened the lid, I was in honeysuckle heaven. I am a Southern belle top to bottom, and the smell of honeysuckle gets me every time. On cold sniff, I could definitely pick out the honeysuckle, but there was more…a kind of sweet, juicy smell that made this scent more balanced. The site scent description says:

Interestingly, the notes on the label were a little different: top notes of berry, middle notes of honeysuckle, and base notes of neroli. Based on what my nose smelled, I would definitely go with the notes as described on the label. While neroli and jasmine can have similar profiles, I didn’t really detect any musk and the sweetness made me think of berries. Regardless, it was an intoxicating scent and I couldn’t wait to start burning!
I’ve been on the road a lot lately, but I packed this little candle with me to test out while on the go. Given its size, I opted for a fairly large bathroom for its first burn. I lit the candle and waited to be surrounded by the lovely scent of honeysuckles.
This candle did not take long to start pumping out that distinctive scent, which brought me back to my childhood days. Mmmmm…honeysuckles on the vine! This was not a pure honeysuckle scent, though, which I’ll admit can be overbearing. It was tempered by a little bit of sweetness and some background green notes. Perfect! It made the scent more full-bodied and multi-dimensional, which was just what I was looking for after long days of travel. The scent filled the bathroom easily and traveled just beyond the doors. It fragranced the room well after I snuffed it out, too. Score!
How Did My Candle Perform?
This candle took absolutely no time to gain a full wax melt pool. The pool was shallow but even. I had zero troubles with the single wick…I trimmed it for my first light and each time in between burns, which is basic candle maintenance. I left this candle burning for several hours on my first burn and never noticed any black sooting. As my lid was plastic, I didn’t want to use it to snuff out the flame. I used a wick dipper instead with no problems whatsoever.
This candle has a stated burn time of 25-40 hours and I’d say that was a fairly conservative timeframe. I was able to enjoy my candle for just under the 50-hour mark, which made the value of the candle that much more reasonable.
Closing To My Candle Review
I thoroughly enjoyed my introduction to the Frerés Branchiaux candle brand. The candle had a clean burn, great scent, and impressive scent throw. While honeysuckle is one of those scents many love or hate, this one was a great honeysuckle-blend, to keep from being too in-your-face floral-ly. If you like great floral mixes and want to support a candle company that gives back, this particular candle would be a great one to try. It certainly gets our coveted Editor’s Choice award!
