Candlefind Says

A deliciously sweet, warm scent that smells just like a freshly baked pecan pie. The scent was strong and long-lasting, making us swoon!

Pros

  • All natural
  • Phthalate free
  • Long lasting

Cons

  • Package can be hard to store

The wax melts from Shortie’s Candle Company are some of our very favorites. For example, their Butter Pecan Pie wax melt has been in our melter on repeat for several days now. We just can’t get enough of it, which is one of the reasons it made our list of one of the best pecan pie scents on the market today.

Packaging/Presentation

The newer, soy wax melts from Shortie’s are in a teardrop shaped clamshell casing that reminds me of a fallen leaf. I personally like the different look, as it makes it very easy to tell it apart from other clamshell melts I may have around. And I seem to always have some around…but I digress. The Butter Pecan Pie wax melt clamshell package did have tabs that made it easy to open and close. There was an illustration of a slice of pecan pie on the label, as well as the company and scent names for easy identification. The wax was a caramel brown color, very soft and easy to remove from the individual sections. It was scored in 6 different sections of 3 different sizes. That was also a plus, because it made it easier to mix and match the pieces depending on which size warmer I was using. Overall a nice, clean look and easy to use. Perfect!

Authenticity

My Butter Pecan Pie wax melts really did smell delicious when first opening the package. There was a sense of warmth and some brown sugar notes in the mix. There was also a bit of nuttiness to the scent. Mmmmm! The cold sniff was fairly strong, which was a plus. Looking at the website’s scent description:

While I didn’t smell those pie crust notes on cold sniff, I did pretty much catch the others. It smelled delicious cold, so I couldn’t wait to warm up the wax.

I decided to use 2 of the pieces in a 24W electric hotplate melter. Once I put the pieces in, I started to immediately smell the deliciousness of some dark brown sugar. The nuttiness was still there but seemed more like a background note. It was interesting in that the nuttiness smelled more like pecan shells than the actual pecans. I’m not sure how to explain that, but I did think it helped ground this scent. I could most easily pick out the thick sweetness of the brown sugar and some buttery pie crust notes once the wax warmed. Ohmygoodness this was delicious! This was a thick, warm scent without being too heavy. Sweet, but not sugar high sweet, if you know what I mean. I think the thickness of the molasses and the subtle sweetness of the brown sugar are what tipped the scales in that direction. I was amazed at how realistic this scent was and I was a bit disappointed, too. Now I wanted pie!

Scent Strength & Scent Throw

The cold sniff on this scent was pretty strong and, once warmed, it did not disappoint. I thought the scent was fairly thick and strong. Definitely could tell this one was melting anytime it was going, and I could even smell it some when the melter was off.

The throw was pretty fantastic, too. I had this wax melt going in a large, open kitchen area and I could smell it all throughout that space. I could tell it was going as the scent wafted on down the hallways and even some upstairs. I really think I could have gotten by with just using one of these pieces at a time.

Melt Performance

These Butter Pecan Pie wax melts lasted a long time in my hotplate melter. I used them for a couple of days, turning the melter on and off for a few hours at a time. The scent started to fade after the 2nd day, at which point I had probably used the melts for about 10 hours total. That pretty much lines up with the company claims, so that’s a positive. I also think I could have gotten away with using just one of these pieces at a time, extending the use of these wax melts.

Conclusion

I was super impressed with the Butter Pecan Pie wax melts from Shortie’s Candle Company. We’ve reviewed these all natural wax melts from Shortie’s before, and there is a great selection from which to choose. This particular scent was sweet with a bit of warmth and nuttiness to it that made it smell like a freshly baked pecan pie. Mmmmm! The scent strength and throw were excellent, making a purchase of these a great value. I can’t wait to get my hands on more.
