What did my candle smell like?

I was pleasantly surprised to see a huge candle selection available at Big Lots stores. I don’t have a store close to me so when I finally walked into one… I kinda went a little crazy and purchased a ton of candles to review. A few golden gems I found were Betty Crocker candles. The label on the bottom says they’re manufactured for Big Lots so that’s pretty cool and you can’t beat the price… $5 dollars for a large candle. The label on the candle didn’t state a size but my guess would be at least 17 ounces.

I couldn’t find a scent description for this fragrance so I’ll do my best to describe it for you… the label on the candle says it all – yummy and spongy angel food cake. First impression when I smelled the wax? Warm and delicious cake. Nothing synthetic or fake about it… just warm and inviting bakery goodness. YUM!!

Just to clarify… I didn’t have too high of expectations of this candle so I decided to burn it in a small bathroom to test in. I wanted maximum scent throw so the smaller the room, the better chances of that. Once lit, it took a good hour or more to reach a full melt pool and after a full day of burning…. the aroma was pretty light. So light, it was hard detecting the aroma even in such a small room. What I could smell was yummy though…. the fragrance stayed true… a warm and sweet white cake. Very delicious – just very light.

Strength – on a scale of 1 to 10, I would rate this candle a 0 in a large room, 0 in a medium room and between a 1 and 2 in a small room. I burned this candle in a teeny/tiny powder room and even that size was a struggle for this candle. Bummer because I really liked the fragrance.

How did my candle burn?

This candle burned slow but maintained full melt pools with each lighting so I was happy. It burned pretty clean as well… no soot or smoke.

Closing to my review:

I really liked this fragrance and had high hopes it would at least scent a small bathroom but unfortunately, that didn’t happen. It sure smelled good though. So good, I would have been in heaven if there had been any aroma. Total bummer but in the end, I’m not too disappointed. I did only pay $5 dollars for it and did expect it to be light… just not THAT light.

If you find yourself if a Big Lots store… go smell one. If you’re a bakery lover like me, I think you’ll be tempted to purchase one too. Just keep in mind how light it is.
