Introduction to my review:

I have been so impressed with Better Homes and Gardens bakery selection this year. Every time I stop by my local Walmart, I see a new scent I can’t wait to try. Keep in mind, these aren’t the strongest candles around but for the price and if you stick to small rooms to burn them in… they’re totally worth it.

As soon as I saw Golden Maple Waffles, I made a beeline straight for it. I love Bath & Body Works Pumpkin Pecan Waffles so I’ve had that scent on the brain and was hoping this one was similar (minus the pumpkin.) As a bakery lover, I was literally drooling over this one. And when I smelled it. SOLD!! I bought a few clamshell melts and a candle to test and review.

What did my candle and melts smell like?

I really wish Better Homes would consistently provide scent descriptions for their candles – sometimes they do but most of the time, they don’t… having one really helps when writing reviews. It’s not only helpful but fun to see if I can pick up on everything listed in the description… sometimesGolden-maple-waffles-candle I can, and sometimes not even close. Judging from the picture, this scent is supposed to be waffles loaded with maple syrup with hints of butter… sounds yummy!!

I decided to test my candle in a small power room, my room of choice to burn this brand. Once the candle burned for a good hour or so, I really began to notice the scent…. the aroma – a sweet bakery alright but not what I imagined. I wasn’t picking up on any bread/waffle notes or maple syrup. To me, the fragrance reminded me of the top layer of cream brulee. It was sweet and smelled like a warm, rich and creamy custard. It was nice and I enjoyed it.

Melts – First sniff – the wax smelled sweeter than the candle did. To me, it smelled more realistic than the candle… as in, I could make out warm bread notes with hints of maple. YUM!!!!!

I used the entire clamshell in 2 melters in my great room… I wanted the strongest scent throw possible and boy did these melts deliver. Within minutes of melting, the scent was everywhere… a super sweet bakery maple scent. So sweet, it hits your sweet tooth. LOVED it!! After a while, I did had a tough time picking up on the bread/waffle notes but regardless, this scent was amazing, strong and room saturation strong. If you love sweet maple scents… this is a must try. Very yummy!

How did my candle burn?

My candle burned pretty decent. It was super slow burning and took a long time to achieve full melt pools each time I lit it each day but that’s pretty consistent with these candles. Want to note, my candle did produce a bit of soot about half way down the candle. There were times I didn’t trim the wick enough and it was probably because of that.

Closing to my review:

Golden Maple Waffles was a nice bakery fragrance that I’ll for sure purchase again. Out of the two, I loved the melts the best. The candle gave a decent aroma but it was pretty light. The melts, AWESOME!! They were super strong and so yummy! It was all butter and maple syrup. We’re talking “sweet tooth” sweet. Mmmmmm!!!!! So I think when I’m ready to go back for more… I’ll stick to purchasing melts.

Not sure if this is a limited scent but I have a feeling it is so if you want to try it, don’t wait too long. It may be gone… I loved it and will for sure be purchasing more. Bakery lovers… definitely check this one out next time you’re at Walmart.

Happy candle hunting! (And melting!)
