Have a blank wall in your house that you just don’t know what to do with? Another great look I’ve seen used on Trading Spaces is to put up shelves on a wall for the sole purpose of displaying candles. This is an easy way to add life to a plain, boring wall. You can find ready-made decorative shelves at stores such as Target, Walmart, Linens & Things, Pier1 or Pottery Barn. They come in different widths, ranging anywhere from 4 inches to 4 feet. I like to use the ready made white shelves, but if you prefer the wood stains, go with that!
Here are some ideas to get you started: Buy 3 or more of the small 4 in. shelves and hang them on the wall in a straight line, all at the same level, about a foot or so apart from each other. Find 4 matching candles and holders that you love and that will fit in nicely with your decor and place them on the shelves. Or, put your shelves on the wall at different heights in a grouping. I’ve even seen the shape of a clock made by hanging small 4 inch shelves in a circle.
For a sleek, modern look, buy one shelf that is about 3 feet long and place matching votives in matching votive holders in a line on the shelf. Use your imagination! Whatever you choose to do, this is an easy way to add instant drama to your room. This is also a great way to add light to a wall in your home where you want you just don’t want to deal with cords.
