Flea Markets
Your local flea market is a great place to find discontinued candles, and you get the advantage of being able to sniff in person! Not only will you find various people giving away their scented treasures (gasp), but you may also find small, mom-and-pop businesses that sell strictly or mainly through markets. You mostly want to look for crafts and home goods, but you can find a ton of discontinued candles and melts at things such as estate sales. This is a great place to find a number of candle accessories, too.

eBay
The world to discontinued and hard to find candles can by your oyster at eBay. Just type in the word “candle” into the search box and see what awaits. In the search bar, type in “discontinued candles” or something like “retired Yankee Candles.” You can also look for the acronym HTF in the listing which stands for hard to find. You will find new and used discontinued candles this way.
Some candles will be unused and some will be burned. Be sure to check the pictures out carefully and read the descriptions in full. While shopping eBay can be super fun, it can also be a breeding ground for scammers, so keep alert and only buy from those with at least a 90% approval rating.
Amazon
Amazon is another place you can find discontinued candles. Mostly you can find the discontinued fragrances of big box stores, like Yankee Candle, Bath & Body Works, and even some luxury brands. Type in key phrases such as “Yankee Candle retired” or “Yankee Candle discontinued” to find a selection of scents.

Social Commerce Marketplaces

On these sites you can find just about anything – put in keywords to search for such as “brand name discontinued” or “brand name retired.” If you don’t mind that the candle may have been burned before, search for “brand name used.” You can save your searches and make an offer on any candles or wax melts you might want. Be sure to read reviews and check out individual profiles to minimize your chances of getting duped.
Other Online & Physical Stores
There are dozens of other places to find used or discontinued candles. Stores such as Joss & Main or One King’s Lane keep a rotation of candles and accessories in stock. What they have varies, but you can most often find these at a discounted price. Shop there frequently enough, and you’ll learn what stores generally carry which brands. For example, Joss & Main carries a lot of Illume candles at the time of this article, but we also found some Blomus and Mikasa candles, too! Check pricing as sometimes these stores will jack up the price. It’s best to shop these stores when they are having a sale.
There are stores such as TJ Maxx and Tuesday Morning where you can often find older candles. It’s hit or miss here, though, and you are not often guaranteed to find a particular scent or even brand. They do have discounted pricing, though, so snatch up what you may find if you think you’re interested!
Social Media Groups/Communities

That’s it! You should be armed with plenty of knowledge on how to find a discontinued candle or two. We will later be posting how to find deals on specific sites, so stay tuned for those details. Also in the fall ofo this year, be on the lookout as we open up our own Scented Surplus stash on Mercari and Poshmark!
