If you love wax melts – especially the decorative ones with dyes, glitter, and/or mica – you know how grungy it can make your wax melter look. For example, we love melting these wax melts from Rainbow Melts, but you can get bowl residue left in the bowl. You’ve had to wonder how to clean a wax melter to get it back like new? We’ve been around the wax block a few times, so to speak, so we’ve got a surefire method to get that like new appearance back to your beloved wax warmer.

Assess The Situation

The first thing you want to do is to look at your wax warmer to determine what amount of work lies ahead. Do you have a one piece melter or one with a detachable bowl? Is there dye that needs to come out or embeds? As you can see on our one-piece tealight melter, we had a little bit of pink wax and a lot of residue from decorated wax melts. The melter still worked well, but it was not appealing visually.

Clean With Alcohol Wipes

Alcohol wipes can be your best starting bet when trying to clean residue out of your wax burner. Just use the wipes to wipe around the bowl and out comes the residue! The alcohol itself evaporates very quickly and won’t leave a scent residue behind. Depending on how bad the bowl is, this might be the only step you need!

Use A Magic Eraser

You can see that our bowl had some stubborn spots. While we could have kept going with additional alcohol pads, we opted to speed up the process with our secret weapon…Magic Erasers! We actually used off-brand erasers that contained melamine foam and they worked just as well. We got these at Target, but you can purchase some off Amazon and they also work great. A little elbow grease and the burned in residue is easy to remove.

Our wax bowl was essentially clean, but we did use another round of alcohol wipes just to make sure that the bowl was sparkly clean.
