We are back this time with a Desert City Candles review. This particular company has a variety of candle scents in their wheelhouse that you can then have poured into a candle with your customized label. We had a blast testing these candles out & we are excited to share our findings with you!
A Closer Look at Desert City Candles
Desert City Candles is a new candle company, founded by Kyle in 2024. All candles are hand poured in Phoenix, Arizona, using 100% soy wax, lead- and zinc-free wicks, and phthalate-free scents. What makes these candles extra fun is the fact that you “build” your own candle on their website by selecting your own choice of witty sayings that can be applied to the front on the main label.
One thing we noticed during our Desert City Candle review is that they are very upfront about their candles – what they do and don’t contain, how strong the fragrances are, and where they generally perform best. In fact, you can find a LOT of information about candles in general and this specific brand on their website, all presented in an easy-to-read format.

Products Offered
Desert City Candles offers two candle jar sizes – an 8 ounce and a new 11 ounce size. The candles are 100% soy and contain phthalate-free fragrances. Shopping this site is unique and fun in that you first choose your scent, then select between one of over 50 sayings that will be applied to your main label. For example, you can select the Rose Seduction scent and then choose to have the label read, “when in doubt nap it out” or “queen vibes & good times.” Then you simply add your personalized selection to cart! Desert City also offers wax melts in six of their wax fragrances. The melts are made in various shapes and colors and packaged in 3 ounce bags per selection.

Coastal Vibes
All of the candles I tested were the 8 ounce size in the amber jars. The scent Coastal Vibes had the label “today has been todaying” on the front. The wax was undyed and there was a single wick. This candle also came with a black, screw-top metal lid. This is where your fragrance name is housed – on a smaller label on the lid.

This scent was very fresh and clean but also relaxing. It had a slight perfumey note to it that made this a beautiful fragrance. The candle had a slow, even burn, and it did take a while to get a full wax melt pool. Overall this fragrance had a great scent strength and throw, rating them both 4 out of 5.
Vanilla Meets Oak
My Vanilla Meets Oak candle had the label “in my candle era” (yes, I am). This candle jar was the same 8 oz amber jar with a single wick and black, screw-top lid. The scent name was on a label on the lid. The cold sniff was mild but pleasing.

This was a delicious vanilla fragrance. It was heavy and more creamy than sweet. I call this a “grown up” vanilla fragrance that was very warm and inviting. I had a clean, even burn with this candle. This was a more subtle fragrance with its strength being 3 out of 5 and its throw 3.5 out of 5. It performed best in my small testing space, which is a guest bathroom.
Off-Trail Expedition
Our Off Trail Expedition candle had the label “does overthinking count as a sport?” and a similar look to the other candles – 8 ounce jar with a black, screw-top lid that had the scent name.

This scent was amazing and incredibly unique. Fresh, green and energizing all at the same time. The notes of leather really came through as the candle burned longer and helped the scent linger around. Another super slow burning candle with a nice, clean burn. I would rate this scent strength as 3.5 out of 5 with a 4 scent throw.
Rose Seduction
My Rose Seduction candle had the label “not tonight, my stomach hurts,” which felt really appropriate for this fragrance. The candle was the same amber jar with a single wick and a screw top lid. The scent name was on the lid. This, again, was an 8 ounce jar.

After burning this candle for my Desert City Candle review, I have really found another favorite rose scented candle. This candle fragrance was incredibly intoxicating – a rich rose petal fragrance with the notes of basil and patchouli to ground the fragrance and keep it from being “too” floral. It fragranced the room well with just the lid off and without burning it. This candle was strong, rating it’s strength & throw as 4 out of 5.
Overall Impression of Desert City Candles

I was super impressed with all the candles I tried for my Desert Candle review. The candles are adorable with all these different labels that you can have applied to your particular scent choice. The 100% soy wax burned cleanly and super slow, making them last a really long time. They tout up to a 35-40 hour burn time per candle, and I would certainly agree with that. The fragrances were all good with varying scent intensities and they have a wide enough fragrance range that should be able to appeal to most. These candles are not going to blow the doors off with fragrance, and they are not intended to. As mentioned on their website, they do best in small spaces. I had the best results in my small and medium sized testing spaces. With the slow candle burn, you get an excellent value for your dollar, and we all know how important that is these days. Overaall, we can’t recommend them enough & we look forward to trying other products in their lineup!
