I love indie candle companies as I feel like I am getting to know the person/people behind the wax. I also love supporting small businesses because I know…it’s hard out there! These are just a couple of the reasons I am head over heels to post this Red Bud Candle Company review today!
A Closer Look at Red Bud Candle Company
The pandemic saw the birth of a number of indie candle and wax melt companies, some of which continue to thrive to this very day. Red Bud Candle Company started out in the kitchen during this time and officially became a business in October 2024. They create 100% soy wax candles in a variety of scents in a good fragrance range. They simply focus on the candles – both a samper 4oz size and then their standard, 16oz size double-wicked candle jars. This company is woman-owned and the candles are freshly poured out of Zanesville, Ohio.
Redbud Candle Company currently does a lot of community craft shows and local farmers’ markets. You can also shop their website, though, in order to score some of their candles. While perusing the site, I noticed that the candles are very affordably priced. Now that I have experienced the quality and slow burns of these candles, I think that these candles are a steal!

Products Offered
Red Bud Candle Company is about the candles. They currently offer two candle sizes – a small 4oz jar, that is perfect for sampling scents, and their standard 16oz candle jar.

Vanilla Bean
Our Vanilla Bean candle was their large 16oz candle jar that was in the apothecary style. The candle came with a flat glass lid that helped with the look & overall feel of the product. The candle was heavy, though, and I needed to be careful how I picked it up and moved it around. I am used to handling Yankee Candle apoothecary style jars, and the lids are more snug on those. Still, this was not a dealbreaker as the candle was obviously well-made. The label on this jar had a couple of vanilla beans on one side with the scent name displayed. On the other side of the jar was the company name and logo. The candle was double wicked and the wax was undyed.

I was able to get a full wax melt pool with no difficulty with this candle. The wicks burned well and I got a nice, even wax melt pool. This vanilla scented candle was absolutely delicious! It was a warm and buttery vanilla scent with just the right amount of sweetness. So yummy! It had a scent strength of 3.5 with a similar throw.
Blueberry Cobbler
Blueberry Cobbler was large, 16oz candle with a photo label depicting a delicious looking slice of blueberry cobbler. The juicy blueberries were at the forefront and made it look mouthwatering. Otherwise, this candle had the same look and feel as Vanilla Bean. One of the things I will say I learned once burning these candles is that the wicks were a bit fragile once burned. I clipped my wicks in between each burn (as you always should!), but I mostly ended up breaking off pieces that fell into the candle jar. The wicks just were a bit too sensitive and sort of self-clipped, if you get what I am saying. I found it better to allow the candle to fully re-harden and the wicks were a bit easier to clip in between burns.

This scent was my favorite of the bunch. I’m a foodie candle gal all day long, and this Blueberry Cobbler candle smelled so incredibly authentic! The warm, buttery crust notes, hints of sweetness, and the smell of ripe, freshly baked blueberries filled the air. Perfection! I would give this candle strength a 4.5 out of 5 with a scent throw of about 4.
Clean Linen Breeze
My large Clean Linen Breeze candle looked just like the others – large, heavy glass jar in apothecary style. The undyed soy wax housed double wicks which were well-placed. The label on this jar brought memories of a fresh Spring clean, as there was an open window with a white sheer flowing in the breeze.

This was a perfect fresh linen scent to me – bright and airy with hints of citrus and floral notes. There was a bit of warmth to the fragrance with the added vetiver and cedar notes, but they were not prominent to my nose. A lot of linen fragrances can be too perfumey to me, but this one was not. It smelled just like I had been cleaning all day! The scent strength was good but not overpowering…a solid 4 out of 5, with a scent throw to match.
Gunpowder
Our last candle to try was in the fragrance Gunpowder. It was in a similar large glass jar as our other candles. Again the wax was undyed and there were two well-placed wicks.

This was an amazing fragrance! Truthfully it was not what I was expecting. I was expecting something harsh and abrasive, but this scent was more smooth, warm, and sexy. Did I get the scent of gunpowder? Not exactly, but there was a distinct essence to the fragrance that put me in that frame of mind. I was able to get a full wax melt pool with this candle, no problems. The candle had a clean burn and lasted a reasonable amount of time. This was a more subtle fragrance with a scent strength of 3 out of 5 and a throw about 3.5.
Overall Impression of Red Bud Candle Company

Red Bud Candle Company is one of those companies that reminds me why I love shopping small businesses for wax. They put so much love & care into their products, and you do feel like you get to know them a bit just by shopping their website. I did have a bit of trouble with my burned wicks and the glass lids were not as snug as I would like. Aside from these quips, however, I found the products very well made and the candles had clean, even burns. The candles themselves are super affordable, with the 4oz candles being a great alternative to wax melts in order to scent sample. Overall, we give this indie candle company a rating of 4.5 out of 5!
