Love Is Kind Wax Melts, 1133 Candles [Review]

One company we have had the chance to get to know over the recent years is 1133 Candles – a small, family-owned business based in Lakewood, California. Since 2018, they make 100% soy candles and wax melts in just a handful of scents. Searching for natural, all soy options for candles and wax melts, the owners came up with a formulation that sold out among family and friends from the start. The candles and wax melts are made with 100% soy wax and phthalate free fragrances, packaged with love, care, and a personal note. The company name is in reference to the bible verse Luke 11:33: No one lights a lamp and puts it in a place where it will be hidden, or under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, so that those who come in may see the light. The company routinely gives back to nonprofit organizations, such as Lakewood Meals on Wheels, Project Shepherd and Olive Crest.

We recently tried their Love Is Kind wax melts and fell head over heels in…well…love!

These are wax melts for 100% soy lovers, and if you love decorative melts. The Love Is Kind wax melts are great for floral scent fans, but it is not too heady or floral.

These melts do come as several roses in a bag, so they work well for placement in multiple melters or if you want to use this fragrance several times. It also worked best in our bulb melters, but it did great in all 3 types (bulb, tealight, electric hotplate).

The wax melts from 1133 Candles were so well packaged. They came in decorated cello bags, with each bag wrapped in bubble wrap for protection. You could tell these wax melts were packaged with great care.

The wax melts were shaped like open rose blooms, lightly dyed in red. When looking currently at the website, they are dye-free, so this batch may have been made special for Valentine’s Day or something similar. I can’t remember how many wax melts were in the bag, but the entire bag consisted of 2.3 ounces of wax. The current box of these wax melts are listed as 2.5 ounces of wax and they are housed in a black box.

The smell of these wax melts on cold sniff was sooooo lovely! It smelled like I was sticking my nose into a rose bush in full bloom. We could even smell the greenery. Swoon!Once we started melting the wax melts, we were even more in love. The smell of rose is what was noticed the most. It really smelled like deep red roses…mmmm! We could also smell some heavier notes, too – almost woodsy and some green notes. It was absolutely mesmerizing.

These wax melts were tested prior to our current standardized testing process. We used 2 wax melts in a 24W hot plate melter in a large, open kitchen. The scent wafted out beyond the kitchen and on into the hallways. These little wax melts were pretty strong!

We were super pleased with these Love Is Kind wax melts from 1133 Candles. The shapes were fun and packaged well. The scent was fantastic, especially if you’re a floral fan, and they lasted a long time. Considering the price per bag, the longevity made them a really good value.

The only issue we have is that you are not able to buy singles of this fragrance, as you have to purchase a set. Still, the set is about the same amount as a typical single clamshell, so that’s not that big of a deal.

The prior scent description indicated that this fragrance had citrus and violet notes, which we didn’t really detect. The updated scent notes seem more in line with what we were smelling – mostly rose petals and greenery. I’m not sure if there has been a change in the fragrance oils or if the updated scent notes are just more accurate.
