A perfect ode to Mrs. Parton, herself – bright, shiny, energetic, and a little bit flashy. The scent strength and throw were really good and this was a super clean burn. My only hangup with this candle was the inability to get that full wax melt pool initially. This is a candle I would love to get again and I would gift it in a heartbeat.

I am thrilled to do this 9 to 5 candle review for Evoke Candle Company. I have been pleased with all the products I’ve tried so far from this company, and there were so many things to love about this particular candle. It’s pink. I tips its hat to one of my favorite stars, Dolly Parton. And there are rhinetones…oh my! I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this one and see what it was all about.

Candlefind uses a specific process to try to test all candles and wax melts on as even a playing field as possible. For candles, we test them all in three specific locations in our home – one small area, on medium/average size area, and a large, open space for the initial burns. We then finish burning out the candle in the area that it performed the best. We do test candles from start to finish, ending the burn when there is approximately 1/2″ of wax left in the bottom. This particular candle was tested prior to our standardized methods, but we did test it from start to finish as we do today. We burned this candle in a small and medium sized room to get an idea on scent strength and throw.

Who Is 9-to-5 For?

This is a candle for those who love citrus fragrances. If you are looking for something bright and energetic, a pick-me-up so to speak, this might be the perfect candle for you.

This candle did have a fairly good scent throw and would be able to do well in a small or medium sized room. If you love keeping candle vessels to multi-purpose them, this would be a great one to keep. 

What did we test?

Unboxing the candles from Evoke are like unwrapping a present from start to finish. The box for 9 To 5…oh, the box! It was this gorgeous fuchsia box with hand-applied Swarovski crystals. The candle was wrapped in a pastel purple tissue paper. Nestled inside was the most beautiful candle vessel I’ve seen in a long, long time. It was bright fuchsia and included the name ‘9 to 5’ on the front inside the outline of a clock. There were hand-applied Swarovski crystals on the candle jar – swoon! It was so blingy and so Dolly Parton…perfect for this themed candle!

 

Candlefind Evoke 9-5 Grapefruit Scented Candle
This particular candle was soy with white wax and there was a single, well-placed wick. On cold sniff, I smelled the zestiness of a sweet, juicy grapefruit. Perfect!

What did we like about 9-to-5?

I started this candle in a large master bedroom, as I’ve had good luck with the scent throw from these candles. It did not take long for me to start smelling the sweet/tart smell of grapefruit throughout the bedroom. To me, this scent was bright, tangy, and energizing – never bitter, like some grapefruit scents can be. I was able to smell it better once I got a full wax melt pool (see burn performance below) – it was a moderately strong scent that I could smell throughout the bedroom and on out past the door once it got going. Delicious!

The candle gave off a beautiful glow while burning – it was really stunning! The burn itself was clean – I never noticed any black soot.

What didn't we like about 9-to-5?

I let my candle burn for several hours on its initial burn, but I wasn’t able to get a full wax melt pool. I did have a rim of wax that remained. I did try on my second burn and hoped I would get that full pool, but that didn’t work either – the “memory” was set. I ended up using a blow dryer to even out the wax and then when I burned it the third time I was able to get that full wax melt pool I desired. I had a really good scent throw during the first and second burns, but I had a fantastic throw once I was able to get my full wax melt pool.
