Introduction to my Waikiki Melon review:
I am so behind on all the current Yankee scents and now that I’m back – I’m scrambling to play catch-up. I’ve been missing a lot of great scents…. my just desserts for staying away from Yankee’s site for so long.I saw Waikiki Melon while window shopping their site and knew this was a scent I wanted to try. I love melon fragrances and in pretty much all variations… they are so sweet, juicy and a family favorite in my house… all three of my fellas comment when I have melon scents burning. I also caught a wonderful sale Yankee was having and purchased Summer Scoop and Waikiki Melon which this review centers around.
I am loving this tumbler style jar Yankee is now carrying. Double wicks!! Yes!! They have been burning like a dream. The price is on the expensive side but if you happen to catch a sale… they are more affordable and totally worth it.
What did my Waikiki Melon candle look like?
See pic to the left for visual reference. My candle was a 22oz round cylinder tumbler style glass jar. The wax color was a pretty medium peach and had two wicks. There was a clear label on the face of the jar that has the Yankee Logo and a picture of a beautifully carved melon with raspberries and some type of flower to each side. The lid was made of a flat chrome plastic with the Yankee logo embossed in the center. There were also embossed dots all around the edge of the lid as well.
What did my Waikiki Melon candle smell like?
Mmmmm…. This candle smelled SOOOOO wonderful and unique!! As soon as I removed the lid, this sweet and unusual melon scent wafted all around me. It’s one of those scents I wanted to breathe in deeply. I say “unusual” because it really was…. this was not the average melon scent I’m used to smelling. Here is the scent description from Yankee’s site:
“Aloha! Wake up to the sunny, sweet glow of exotic, juicy melons with a touch of sweet orange oil.”
Interesting. I swear the picture on the label shows dark pink flowers on one side and raspberries on the other so that’s what I was expecting to smell. I don’t see any oranges on the label. I assumed the “unusual” I was smelling was the mix of raspberries and floral. I guess it wasn’t.
How did my candle smell once lit? I lit this candle in a pretty good size bedroom to gauge the strength… it took awhile to really notice the fragrance in the room… I would say well over 30 minutes. So this is not a super strong scent. I was bummed… I wanted it saturating strong. I’m beginning to wonder if it’s this style candle and not the scent. The Summer Scoop candle I burned and reviewed last month was pretty light too.
I looooooved this fragrance! When I walked into the room, I always stopped in appreciation to breathe it in. It was so sweet and unique. A delicious melon scent with an added flare. I still can’t tell if I’m smelling orange to be honest… maybe. Whatever it is, it’s blended beautifully. The overall scent is summery and bright. I totally recommend this candle if you love sweet melon scents.
How did my candle burn?
PERFECT!! All caps because I’m not used to perfect burns with any Yankee candles. So, loving the double wicks. All the way. – – clean burn, no wasted wax.
Closing to my review:
Overall, this was a great experience. I loved this candle and I especially loved this fragrance… enough that I will for sure buy it again only next time, I think I’ll try one in their classic style jars instead. I want to test my theory to see if these tumbler style jars are in general lighter in strength.
Waikiki Melon was a very unique melon scent and I enjoyed it from beginning to end. Two thumbs up!
Happy candle burning!

I adore this candle. It doesn’t smell like melon but all kinds of fruit and it’s so strong! Highly recommend it.
