What did my candle smell like?

Several months ago, I purchased a few candles from Thymes after I fell in love with a Christmas candle Andrea gave me over the holidays last year. I don’t purchase luxury candles very often so it’s a real treat when I do and of course I want to review them all.

Woodland Violet & Mint is a retiring fragrance but it’s still available on their website to purchase so I figured – what the heck! – It sounded interesting and I really wanted to review it. Violet and mint… two scents I would never imagine paired together. I also love anything with mint in it so I was too intrigued not to review it. Once I smelled it…. WOW!!!! Super potent and very floral – definitely not a scent I would normally pick out – woodland-violets– and one thing was for sure…. my husband was going to hate it. LOL!! He despises floral fragrances.

Here is the scent description from Thymes website:

“Velvety woodland violet. Delicate purple clover. Effervescent fresh mint. Robust wild geranium. Romantic wood rose bud.”

First impression… very realistic! I’ve smelled my fair share of floral candles – and I’m no expert – but the majority I’ve sampled never really wowed me or made me think I was putting my nose up to a real bouquet of flowers. This candle did. It truly smelled like authentic and freshly cut violets. That’s pretty impressive. I didn’t detect any mint however…. none. To me, this fragrance was pure and sweet floral.

I lit this candle in my master bedroom and it took longer than I expected before I started noticing the scent – which I found interesting… the wax was pretty strong cold and I thought it would blow me away once lit as all floral scents do – it didn’t. It took a good hour before the scent started wafting through my bedroom and I can’t believe I’m saying this….. it was really nice. It smelled like sweet violets but it wasn’t heavy or headache inducing. Even my husband who was dreading me burning this candle agreed…. It wasn’t overpowering at all and he didn’t mind it…. we both thought it smelled lovely. I never did detect mint in the overall fragrance but I think it was definitely there and that’s what toned down the heaviness that floral scents can become.

Strength – on a scale of 1 to 10, I would rate this candle a 7. It gave a nice and steady medium throw. Very nice.

candle-flameHow did my candle burn?

My candle burned perfect. Zero issues. Clean burning, no soot or wasted wax.

Closing to my review:

This candle really surprised me – in a good way. I kind of went in thinking I wouldn’t like it but ended up really appreciating what a beautiful fragrance it was – – which is pretty interesting considering this was a true floral scent – the kind I run from. Even more crazy… my husband (who Best Scented Candlesdespises floral scents more than me) didn’t mind it and this candle was burning in our bedroom for an entire week straight. He never once complained or asked me to blow it out. That’s pretty big.

So in closing, I really enjoyed this candle – enough that I could see myself buying it again – or even trying a different floral from Thymes. Can you believe it? I think it’s a testament to luxury brands… the ingredients that go in are expensive and higher quality. I don’t have a better explanation.

This scent is still available so if you wanted to try it, hurry…. not sure how long it will be around.

Happy candle hunting!
