Introduction to my Wick It Good Candle Review:
When I first visited this website, it was late at night in my office. All the lights were out except for the glow of my computer. From the website came the sound of a sort of melancholy, lonely piano music. It made me imagine I was in an old Jersey shore beach house at night while a storm is brewing (the physical store sites are located in New Jersey).
I sometimes like to light candles when it is dark, quiet or lonely, or to set the mood right before a powerfully exciting and refreshing thunderstorm. Their soft glow emits a warm, homey feeling. Soon the evenings will grow shorter, and you may wish to light a candle or two instead of flip on a light switch. Maybe some of the scents below will give you some candle options to add light to your evenings.
What do my “Wick It Good” Candles Look Like?
While the website only displays pictures of round, double wick jars, Pecan Pie, Mermaid, and Danielle were sent in clear tulip jars. So my guess is as good as yours as to which jar your candle will arrive in. I think the same amount of wax is in each jar, so there really isn’t much of a difference, unless you prefer the look of one jar over another. The lids are round glass, with a company sticker on top, which pictures a whimsical, pensive mermaid.
The jars were thinner glass. My personal preference is thicker glass, but I know some people are not as picky as I am. The fragrance names on each candle were printed on clear labels with black lettering. I never tried removing the labels, but if my memory serves me, I think they could be easily removed if you like your jars label-free.
How did my “Wick It Good” Candles Smell?
I have to admit that I was a bit overwhelmed by this company. The reason for this is that while I only requested to review three scents, and that is pushing the max of what I feel comfortable reviewing in detail… this company sent me THREE boxes of jar candles and votives! I appreciate the gesture, Wick It Good (WIG), but it would probably take me years to burn all you sent! Nevertheless, I added a few more scents to my review than I originally planned.
Atlantic City Gold
Scent description:
“Salt Water Taffy, Caramel, Butterscotch, Tutti Fruiti.”
Who can pass up salt water taffy when you go to the seashore? This was a yummy fragrance that reminds me of something I can’t put my finger on. Maybe I detect a hint of each ingredient. This fragrance is different in its own right, but not so out there that it wouldn’t please the average candle lover.
Mermaid
Scent description:
“A Seductive Blend Of Sweetness And Musk (Our Best Seller).”
At first I was a little hesitant about requesting this fragrance. I don’t usually order scents with musk in the description, but since I have the opportunity to sample unique fragrances, I figured I’d give it a shot. Surprisingly, I really enjoyed this scent. I can’t specifically pick out any musk at all. I wish I could describe this fragrance more thoroughly, but I’ve never smelled anything like it. It is exactly what I think a Mermaid would smell like-sort of sweet, but with a bit of sea salt (mermaids do, after all, live in the ocean).
At first I tried it in votive form for my medium sized bathroom. The votive was nice and strong and the scent wafted slightly out into the hallway. It also carried well in candle form. When I inhaled the aroma of this candle, I imagined being taken away from my bathroom and whisked to a cliff on a seashore. A mermaid was sunbathing there, and the breeze carried her aroma my way. She smelled a heck of a lot better than fish! That’s the best I can do to describe the scent of this candle.
Pecan Pie
Scent description:
“We Are Famous For This Unbelievable Candle.”
Overall, I’d describe WIG’s Pecan Pie as a safe, traditional bakery candle. It smells like pecan pie, and has a good throw. If you like pecan pie, have at it…just remember not to dip your spoon into the candle. :0).
Danielle
Scent description:
“Lavender, Vanilla, Coconut, Lime And Lemon Verbena.”
This is lavender with a tang! I don’t detect any vanilla, but the smell of Coconut Lime Verbena can be very overwhelming to other fragrances. Lavender seems to be a secondary scent. Danielle is a soothing, delicate fragrance. I loved it.
Sea Girt
While the name may not seem appealing (although very original, which is what attracted my attention), the description sounded soothing,
“Green Tea And Lavender.”
To me, this smelled a lot like Bath and Body Works White Tea and Ginger. With more of a herbal trace rather than floral, this fragrance has a spa-like, relaxing quality.
Sea Glass
“Honeydew, Watermelon, Mango.”
I haven’t actually burned this, but I did get a chance to smell it in votive form. It reminds me of a beach resort in the summer (or at least what I imagine it would smell like). Everyone headed to the beach having just showered for the day; hair smelling of fruit and bodies smelling of lotion. An inviting “getaway” scent as we wrap up the fragrances of summer. Tropical and fun, while at the same time relaxing. Maybe it’s because this is what I think vacation smells like. :0).
How did My “Wick It Good” Candles burn?
No wasted wax. Only a slight film on the sides of the jar, which I didn’t feel detracted from the look of the candles.
Overall opinion of my Candles and “Wick It Good” Candle Company:
Phew! I feel like that was a lot of scent reviews! But I enjoyed my pretend trip to the seashore and I hope you did too. The colder months will be here before you know it, so you may want to stock up on candles with fragrances that can take you away on a sweet sea escape. :0)
Happy candle burning!
