Introduction to My Village Candle Review...
Village Candle is a company I’m familiar with and have purchased from in the past. They are the creators of my very favorite fragrance, Apples n Oak, so I am a little partial to them!
I usually buy these locally and have to chose from the limited options that my retailer carries, so I was pretty excited when I learned they have a web store where I could buy whatever I wanted. Until then I had no clue that they even carried melts. I browsed around and found some nice Spring scents, and I’ll be reviewing two for you here. Fiesta de las Flores is a votive and Sunflower Linen is a Simmerblends melt.
What Does My Votive from Village Candle Look Like?
My votive is standard votive size and a pretty, vibrant pink color. Â It is wrapped in cellophane with a label showing flowers that look a lot like plumeria to me.
What Does My Simmerblends Melt Look Like?
My melt is in a break away pack with four squares. The total weight is 1.5 ounces. It has a paper wrap on the front with a picture of a sunflower on a linen towel.
How Do My Votive and Simmerblends from Village Candle Smell?
Fiesta de las Flores:
This is part of Village’s Caliente line. I hadn’t heard of this line before so I really wanted to try it! On my first cold sniff of this my nose said “tea roses”. I wasn’t sure what I would get since the only description on the site is:
“Reminiscent of days gone by when growers brought their most fragrant flowers to market.”
I guess I was expecting a more exotic scent, not just a rose. After I lit it, it did come alive a bit more. I still smell tea rose predominantly but I also get some spicy carnation scent too. It’s not a very complex scent at all. Just straightforward flowers.
The strength is decent, probably a medium plus. It’s not super strong which I have found can be a problem with some rose scents. My one votive fragranced my room easily so I give it an “A” for throw.
I liked this one but it wasn’t at all what I expected. With a candle line named “Caliente” (hot in Spanish) and a scent name like Fiesta de las Flores, I definitely thought it would be a little different than the run of the mill florals you see every day.
Sunflower Linen:
The description for this one is:
“A fresh breeze of sunflower petals and citrus combined with a hint of white musk creates the overall outdoor freshness of sun-washed linen.”
This scent is in both their premium and their round line, so I’m not sure which my melt came from! I love sunflower scented items and the addition of the linen intrigued me too, so I was eager to test this one out. On cold sniff I smelled more of a linen type clean smell and I was hoping that the sunflower part would come out more in the melting.
I used two squares in my burner and had a nice scent within a half hour. I did not smell any citrus at all, and the sunflower note was very light. This is basically a clean smell and not too much of a floral. Again, a nice scent but not what I was hoping for. I would have liked there to be a more pronounced sunflower note. This smells very clean and strong. It had a good throw, those two squares were enough for my bedroom. This one is a good bargain at $1.50.
How Did My Votive from Village Candle Burn?
My votive burned great. It liquefied totally and had no smoking.
Overall Opinion of My Votive, Simmerblends and Village Candle:
I really like Village Candle. They have a really good scent selection that is mixed up well and not heavy on any one category. They can be a little more expensive than other smaller companies, but the fact that they sell melts and votives makes it easy for anyone to enjoy their scents. The melts are reasonably priced and you can get two portions out of them so it’s a great deal.
Even though the scents I chose ended up being different than I expected I still really enjoyed them. Village Candle sells what I consider to be a quality product at a fair price. The customer service was great too. Not only did I receive my order within four business days, I e-mailed with a question and received a response within a few hours. That’s great for a company the size of Village Candle!
The shipping was reasonable too, there is a shipping chart on the site that tells you exactly how much shipping will be charged by the dollar amount you order. Another plus is that your credit card isn’t charged until your items ship.
I will be ordering from the site again for sure. Especially when it’s Fall and time to break out Apples N Oak again!
Happy candle burning!
