Introduction to my Village Candle Accents Collection Review:

I was just let in on the best, worst kept secret. Now, maybe I’m the last to know, but you can get the popular Village Candle products directly from thier factory store online. It’s all right there on the website, from the classics to their brand new collections, and there are so many styles, sizes and scents to choose from. Village candle products are carried in many retail shops, so looking over their website, I felt like I was allowed entry into a secret world of the factory store, as if the average shopper didn’t know that the candle fragrance they are trying to find on a store shelf is available online or that there are so many more scent and size options available.I’m new to Village Candles. I know… I know… I must have been living under a rock… right? Here is this treasure of a company right under my nose and I am just now discovering them. So acquainting myself with this company, I read their story on their About Village Candle page which is an encouraging rags to riches story that endeared me to this company. It’s an interesting introduction that shows their humble beginnings. I hope you get a chance to check it out.

Village Candles

When I first entered the website, I was greeted with a short animation highlighting the Village Candle’s commitment to Breast Cancer Awareness this month, along with a brief jazz tune… a little “Martini” music. I’m not a huge fan of music ensembles on websites, but this was thankfully quick and finished before I mustered the energy to turn down the volume. The website was a bit awkward to navigate at first as I was not prepared for such a large selection of products. It took me a few minutes to get my bearings, but once I figured out the general layout of the site, I was zipping through web pages like a pro.

Village Accent Collection CandlesWhat do my Village Accents Candles Look Like?

For this review, I chose three scents from the Village Accents collection. I’m open to all sorts of fragrances so this is an eclectic group.Poppy Fields is a bright red color, Coral Beach is light coral pink, and the Juniper & Cedar is an olive taupe color. Each 9 oz jar is a large tumbler glass. The lid is a plastic topper with a small hole in the center for cold sniffing. Ha… I love the phrase cold sniffing… it just sounds so naughty somehow. Anyway, each tumbler had a label with a photo to further illustrate the scents. The labels were there to stay too, so fortunately they were very pretty, because I don’t know where my Goo Gone has gone.

How did my Village Accents candles smell?

Poppy Fields

This scent is described as:

“Earthy and exotic, the bold scent of the 60’s. This scent is for people who love patchouli as much as we do!”

I love patchouli, probably as much as they do so this scent is apparently for people Poppy Fields Village Candle Reviewlike me. But the strangest thing happened on the way to the Poppy Field…what I was smelling didn’t match up with the scent description or the scent name for that matter. This is not a floral scent as the Poppy Fields name implies…let’s just establish that right off…don’t come looking for Poppies.

When I lit this candle, I didn’t pick up much patchouli at first either. What I did smell was a sweet fruity punch scent. Very pleasant, mind you, I mean really nice. Nowhere in this scent did I find that familiar bittersweet, pungent patchouli that I am so familiar with. This patchouli was more of a wallflower trying not to draw any admiring glances.

To my nose, this scent smelled like a berry fruit punch with a simple sugar syrup…not the least bit bitter… with the patchouli just giving it a dreamy quality that lingers in the air. This is a good scent. If it were mine, I would change the name and scent description entirely, if for no other reason, than to entice people who do NOT love patchouli. There are a lot of you out there and you would be pleasantly surprised with this scent.

Coral Beach

You can’t judge this scent by it’s name alone. It is described this way:

“If you love romantic , sexy amber noted fragrances, this one is for you! Sensual amber is Coral Beach Village Candles Reviewcombined with restorative ylang.”

This is like a love story between a young couple…Ylang and Amber. They dance slowly together under the stars on romantic Coral Beach… never letting go of one another.  **All right** Snap out of it!

These two scents spin around together in blissful harmony. First, this is a sweet smelling floral… not powdery… not perfumy… just fragrant. The amber holds back in the beginning but then kicks in strong, lending a deeper quality to the overall scent. It has a heavy incense type of smell but it is lightened by the Ylang. I’m not a big believer in aromatherapy, but this scent was very relaxing, so maybe there’s more to it than I once thought.

This candle easily scented my bedroom. It was almost too big for the room, not because of it’s candle strength but because it is such a powerfully heavy type of scent. I didn’t leave this candle burning for long stretches. I found that I enjoyed this one for a couple hours at a time. I thought this was a wonderfully different scent.

Juniper & Cedar

This no-nonsense fragrance really walks the walk…it is exactly as described.

“Invigorate your senses with the clean earthy fragrance of Juniper and cedar trees.”

Juniper & Cedar Village Candles Accents ReviewI love the holidays…I truly do…but come January 1, I want all the hoo-hooblers and tum-tumblers out of here. By January I’m exhausted and I just want a clean, starkly undecorated home, and crisp, fresh candle scents.

This candle is like the “un” fragrance. It doesn’t smell like a scented candle…it just smells like fresh cool forest air…perfect for January. This is a true pine needle and hardwood scent. It is a fresh clean fragrance but doesn’t smell like a freshener or a cleanser and has no holiday notes anywhere.

The Juniper and Cedar are both present without the berries. It’s a lovely scent. My only concern with this candle at first was it’s strength. When I lit this one, it seemed very light to me…almost as if the candle makers didn’t want to overwhelm anyone with a super strong pine scent. We all know how unpleasant a too stong pine can be. Even though to me it was a bit light, my entire family thought it was great and commented more than once about how good is smelled when they came in the room.

This scent made me want to breathe deeper and walk a little bit brisker. Did I mention how fresh this candle smelled? It is an invigorating scent and I recommend it for the new year and all winter long.

Candle flameHow did my Village Accents Candles burn?

All three of these tumblers burned the same way. Each one developed a nice deep scent pool that reached the edges of the glass quickly. All three candles required some wick trimming throughout their duration, and each one left a thin wax film on the entire glass. They all burned completely and evenly.

Closing remarks to my Village Accents Collection Review:

Village Round CandlesOverall, I had a good experience with these candles. I enjoyed the unique scents of Poppy Fields and Coral Beach but my favorite of the three was definitely Juniper & Cedar. I must have more of this for when the holiday dust settles.I’m also looking forward to trying more of the many scents from Village Candles. The Village Accents collection alone had several other choices just calling my name, and the entire website is chock full of great looking candle styles in interesting scent combinations.Pick some out for yourself… and if you feel like sharing the love… for that last minute gift, they even have gift certificates too.Happy candle shopping!
