Vanilla Lavender Colonial Candle Review
By Christina Rylan
Brand: Colonial Candle
Type: 22oz large oval jar
Fragrance: Vanilla Lavender
Scent Strength: Medium
First impression of Vanilla Lavender:
It’s funny… I’m not a fan of floral scents but I love lavender for some reason. It’s fresh and herbal and hence… soothing. Add vanilla and I’m all in.
Vanilla Lavender from Colonial smelled very different from all the other lavender vanilla fragrances I’ve smelled. The majority I’ve tried have been more lavender with hints of creamy vanilla. Colonial’s version is more vanilla with hints of lavender. It was total opposite, and I loved it. Don’t get me wrong, I like both but there was something about this one that had me smiling. It smelled powdery and reminded me of a soft and musky perfume.
Time to light this beauty up!
Colonial’s large oval jars are generally strong for me, so I can usually get away with burning them in my master bedroom. That’s where this candle went. And here are some words of wisdom prior to lighting a Colonial Candle… never trim the wicks prior to lighting the very first time. It’s deceiving… the wicks look way too long but they taper down on their own once lit. Trust me on this – I learned this the hard way with several candles before it registered. If you trim them prior to lighting the first time, it ruins the wicks and your candle will not burn correctly.
With that said… I lit this candle in my bedroom and waited for the magic to begin. A few hours in and I ended up moving it to a smaller/medium size room. Once I did… much better! My guest bedroom from then on was filled with the sultry aroma of creamy vanilla blended with hints of lavender. It really did remind me of a soft and powdery perfume. The lavender was soft, the vanilla definitely dominated. I loved it.
Strength – I would rate this candle a 6 out of 10 in a really large room. 8 in a medium and 10 in a small.
How did my candle burn?
This candle burned great. No wick issues. Clean burning from beginning to end.
Closing to my review:
I really enjoyed Vanilla Lavender from Colonial. This was the first one I’ve tried that was predominately vanilla and I really loved it. Colonial’s version was more sultry and less herbal if that makes sense? It was romantic but still fresh. I highly recommend this one. I’ll for sure pick up another candle next time I make a Colonial purchase.
Happy candle hunting!

Hi there! I couldn’t agree more with your review. Best candle I’ve ever had. However, it seems that they may have stopped making this fragrance at CC. Do you have a secret stash of them I could buy or know where to find them? Thanks
Hi Michelle,
I wish I had a stash of this fragrance, but I don’t. I only purchased this one candle to review. Bummer it’s been discontinued. I really liked it too. You may want to try stores like Marshall’s or TJ Max which tends to purchase retired fragrances from big candle companies. You never know what you may find. Good luck!
