MKC Candle Company is another indie company with 100% soy candles and wax melts, owned and operated by Maria Cherego. We’ve had great fun getting to know Maria and her products, including an amazing scent called Summertime Shandy. Maria actually sent this scent as a standard candle, wine bottle candle, and wax melt, which was a great way to get exposure to her offerings. This particular review is for the Summertime Shandy candle.

Packaging/Presentation
The standard candle was in a round glass jar with a tight-fitting silver lid. The wax was off white – typical of natural soy wax – with a single wick. The label on the front clearly identified the company name and scent name. We love it when the scent notes are included on labels, as it helps when a company might discontinue a scent long before you have had a chance to melt/burn it (happens way more often than we care to admit). The scent notes were included on this label, but they were a little hard to read because of the white font on the colored label. Still, it was a nice touch & much appreciated on our end!
Authenticity
Cold sniff of this Summertime Shandy candle was like a fruit stand in a jar. Mmmm, it was so good! It was fruity and sweet, but not candy-sweet. More realistic fruit-type sweet. The notes I noticed the most were some citrusy notes and some slightly green notes. Looking at the formal scent description:

Once the candle started burning, I was able to get more of the fruity notes in this blend. The citrus notes started to take a back seat, and I noticed more of the sweet watermelon and juicy mango. It was so refreshing and fresh – yum!
Scent Strength & Scent Throw
Keeping in mind that this was a 6oz candle jar, I did light it in a smallish bathroom to see what it could do. It scented that space with no problem whatsoever, giving me a moderately strong scent strength overall. The fragrance stayed pretty well contained in the space it was in. I did test the candle out in a larger, open area, but it was definitely more suited for the smaller space.
Burn Performance
It didn’t take too long to get a full wax melt pool with this candle. The candle melted out edge to edge and the melt pool was fairly thin but even. I never had any black soot from my candle and the wick required very little maintenance. I trimmed it up every 3-4 hours that I had the candle burning and that was all I needed to do.
Conclusion
I absolutely loved this Summertime Shandy from MKC Candles. It was fresh and sweet – perfect for days when we are trying to wrap up all this summer heat. Not sure about the shandy part of this scent, but it didn’t deter me from enjoying it nonetheless. I’m so happy with this brand and pleased to be supporting another small candle business. I’m looking forward to trying more from this brand!
