This is a great bakery scent with a bit of fresh mintiness that makes for a wonderful blend. The scent is a bit milder, so keep that in mind when melting.
- Reasonably priced sampler
This Sugar & Ice wax melt was included in my sampler from Closet Full of Wax (CFOW). I have reviewed several CFOW melts from this sampler, with those reviews already posted on this site. I actually melted Sugar & Ice quite some time ago, but I’m just now having time to get the formal review up. Like the others, there was a lot to love in this small dollop of wax!
Sugar & Ice, Closet Full of Wax
Each wax melt sample in the sampler is individually packaged, with the scent name and notes clearly on the label. The label usually has some cute picture to go along with the scent, but this one did not. It just had the name and scent notes listed, along with the company name for reference. Still, the cuteness of the wax shape made up for that. It was a fat, round donut shaped wax melt, tan in color. It looked like it was drenched in a sugary glaze. So cute! I really love the care and attention that is put into each of these single wax melts.
The cold sniff was a sweet kind of bakery scent. It wasn’t very strong on cold sniff, but I wasn’t worried about that part. The scent notes were:
Peppermint, sugar cookie dough, fresh pie crust
Sounded good to me! I used this wax melt in a 24W hotplate melter, and that’s when I discovered the real beauty of this scent mix. I noticed the buttery, flakey pie crust, which was a bit heavy, mixed in with some sweet mintiness from the peppermint. The peppermint didn’t hang around – it came in and out, making this a not-so-typical bakery scent. The sugar cookie dough was really drowned out by the pie crust and peppermint, but I did occasionally smell some rich, buttery vanilla notes, which I’m attributing to the sugar cookie dough. Overall, I thought of it as a buttery pie crust scent with a little bit of a surprising twist with the cool, sweet, mint added in. It was delicious!
Scent Strength & Scent Throw
This was a mild-moderately strong scent. It wasn’t as strong as some of the other CFOW melts I’ve melted, but it still was pretty good. I was surprised with the heavier bakery notes that this one wasn’t a tad bit stronger. Still, it held its own and scented up the kitchen area. I wasn’t able to smell it past this open area, though. I think if I had this scent again, I would use a lower wattage melter, or I might try a tealight burner. I know sometimes that can make all the difference in the scent throw and longevity that you can get.
This wax melt lasted for about 5 hours in my hotplate melter. It was still going after that, but it had noticeably faded. Enough that I was ready to change it on out. I’m thinking if I had used my 20W melter, I would have been able to eek out more scent from this one.
I loved this Sugar & Ice wax melt from CFOW. It was a delicious bakery scent and the use of peppermint gave it a sweet, minty twist. The scent strength and throw were pretty good, but I think I would use more than one piece if I were to order this individually.
